Tahki had heard many things about the Myrsky Syntynyt framed to paint the pride in a poor light, but mostly in many ways it'd had the opposite effect on the lioness. It reminded her slightly of her birth pride, and that was good enough for her.

She moved in a slow circle as she eyed the lioness that had accepted her challenge, trying to judge how she might handle the fight. She was smaller than Tahki, but she had beautiful muscles rippling over her body. Size was never a determining factor in a fight, Tahki knew this.

She took a deep breath, focused on her opponent but still rather loose and relaxed. Getting tense before a sparring match would do her little good.

Anwar was not the best fighter.

It might have stunned some people to hear the lioness admit it, but there was no shame in doing so. It was a stated fact - she was much better on the hunt, stalking and strategizing. She wasn't ignorant of martial skills, of course, and continually worked to better herself, but she was no expert.

This was why she rarely dueled those newcomers who wished to join the pride. Simply put, she wasn't of the opinion that she'd be able to test them as thoroughly as needed.

Still, it was a standard task expected of all Reavers. Since she wasn't on a Viking, it was Anwar's duty to answer any challenges asked of her. So now she was padding out to where a stranger waited.

The lioness was big. Significantly so, and Anwar felt almost like an adolescent in comparison as she came near.

"Well then. Let's go," the Reaver said at last. Without any further hesitation, she launched herself forward, claws extended.

Tahki imagined most of the lions and lionesses of this pride wouldn't compare to the members of her pride, at least from what she'd seen of the pridelands. Tahki knew the rogues and few prides she'd passed close enough to had considered her a large lioness. It made her feel powerful, good. She'd grown to a good size, despite her cub-hood giving every indication that she wouldn't. She often liked to mention that she'd been the runt of her little, it always gave her a good laugh to see the surprise on strangers' faces.

She'd been thinking exactly that when suddenly the smaller lioness was slamming into her. Tahki hadn't heard her words and reprimanded herself harshly. Now was no time for day dreaming, not in the least! Her body hit the ground and she felt claws taring into her flesh. She gave a powerful kick with her hind legs, attempting to throw the other lioness off before rolling herself, again kicking out a hind leg. Her own claws were sharp and ready, but she preferred the strength of her legs.

Once they broke away from each other her lime green eyes scanned the lioness, again looking for weak points. It was a shame she'd not been her longer, been watching this lionesses sparring matches, had a feel of how she fought. Tahki supposed the one thing she could do was go on the offense, and go on it hard. She gave a light growl, something low and almost playful as she feigned right and then attacked left, jaws snapping at Anwar's leg.

A good solid hit. Some might say it was unfair of her to attack when the lioness clearly wasn't ready, but Anwar considered that argument to be bullshit. They both knew what they were here for, and it wasn't as if they were in a moderated competition with someone to yell "Go!" This was a challenge, of one lioness trying to get into the other's pride. The only judge here was Anwar, who would either win, denying entry to the stranger; lose, or end the fight and say the other was worthy.

Despite her early advantage, Anwar was surprised by the tactic her opponent chose - to kick instead of claw. As a result, she landed on her side in the dirt, granting the other lioness a breather as she had to return to her feet. The Reaver didn't bother to try attacking at that point. True, she might be able to upset the other's balance and bring her down again, but it was better to be sure of herself first.

Then the lioness started a feinting game, leaning this way and that, teeth snapping close, but not close enough. Anwar's eyes narrowed in consideration. She gave a mental nod and chose to feint back, paws and claws flashing, teeth glinting, neither quite connecting.

It was, she decided, refreshing to fight another female.

Tahki had a delighted grin on her maw, even as she was fighting. There was always something so alive about a sparring match. Real fights and real danger were preferable, of course, but a sparring match was always good to get the blood going.

As the two lionesses seemed to dance around, seeing who would fake the other out first, Tahki gave a gleeful laugh. "You have to be faster than that!" She boasted, but too early. She landed on her paw just slightly off, the pain minimal and not even enticing more than a grunt from her as the other lioness's teeth grazed Tahki's flesh. She twisted away, tail whipping in an annoyed manner. "Yes, good!" She crooned, winking and obviously poking fun at herself a little. Her boast had been in good nature, and her joking nature for the praise obviously meant no offense.

Anwar never spoke during a fight. Too many males used those heated words to taunt their opponents. The lioness would rather focus on the actual combat. So it was odd for her to not only be addressed, but to be praised. How bizarre her opponent was.

Later, she'd blame those unexpectedly positive words for distracting her at a crucial moment.

Regardless, one clawed paw whipped out towards the other female, only to miss entirely.

Tahki finally saw it, her good opening. She jerked out of the way of the paw, using the other lioness's forward motion and letting herself drop back in a feigned pinning for the other lioness. But the motion was fluid, Tahki was already throwing her weight so they'd carry over and suddenly Tahki was on top.

Her claws dug into the other female's shoulders as she shoved down, attempting to pin her.

Being pinned may have been a surprise for Anwar, but she was stronger than she looked. Instead of the blow knocking the wind from her, it helped the lioness focus. So she borrowed a trick from her opponent's book and shoved upwards with her legs. It was more important to not be pinned than it was to worry about scoring on the challenger at this moment.

Still, she was rather impressed. Either this lioness was skilled, or she'd been dealing with idiots for too long.

Wow, she felt old thinking that. She'd only been a Reaver for six moons, after all.

As the other lioness's hind legs hit into Tahki's stomach she gave out a little gasped pain, her breathe slightly escaping her. It wasn't enough to send her flying, but she did left up a bit. If she didn't get out of the way though she knew the other lioness could and hopefully would keep kicking so she rolled off, shaking some dust from her pelt. Her stomach was definitely going to be sore tomorrow, and she was vaguely aware of some scratches and bruises littering her body. A few must have been bleeding, but it was hard to tell it apart from the sweat at this point.

Tahki wasn't even panting yet, she could do this all day! In fact, that actually sounded really pleasing to the lioness after going that many moons without anyone to properly spar with. She jumped to the side then launched herself on top of the female with a boastful roar, looking to take her down but also looking to avoid the dangers of her hind legs.

Anwar landed in the dirt a second time with the bigger lioness on top of her. She could have fought the other off, of course, but this duel had gone on long enough. She'd seen what she needed to see from the stranger.

"Enough!" The command was stern, though not nearly as sharp as what the Reaver used on idiots. "You've proven that, whatever else, you have iron in your blood," she told the other lioness.

Once the stranger had moved off, Anwar regained her feet, looking up at the other female.

"My name is Anwar," she introduced herself. "Come, let's introduce you to the Warlord." The smaller lion headed back towards the pride, trusting her new comrade to follow.

At the comment Tahki had no problem leaping off, panting ever so slightly now. Well, now that the fight was over she could be afforded that small delicacy, no? She grinned largely at the other female lioness and dipped her head in silent thanks. Iron and fire, a beast to be feared by others!

"Anwar, a pleasure to meet you and a pleasure to spar with you. Your skills are formidable, I hope we will spar again in the future. I am Tahki." She followed along with the lioness, preparing herself to meet this warlord. It would take a lot to assimilate to a new pride full of different rules than she'd grown up with, but she was prepared.

She'd found a new home, one that was worthy of her.
