It had been a week since the stallion had found the basket. As he predicted, the temperatures had dropped and he had kept it warm with a combination of furs, a fire and his own body. The basket had been fortunate that he had found it, to say the least. Temperatures had increased in the past day or so and now the stallion sat a ways away from the basket, watching it carefully. Surely it would emerge soon, yes? He hoped so. Caring for a basket was tiring and he had not practiced his fighting since he discovered it - nor had he done full perimeter checks. His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth and he let out a huff.
Soon, a foal would emerge and he could send it on its way and then get back to his life.

The basket had been alone for a rather long time, before the stallion found it, but it still possessed a faint trace of memory. Within the mind of the foal inside, was a name and as it was just waking up, it was its name that came first to its mind. The basket rustled, rocking back and forth for a moment and then with a loud pop! the top was off and a small filly stood in the basket. For a moment, she stared around herself in wonder, her blue eyes stretched wide. Then, her name came to her and she let out a happy whinny, "Ellie- Ellie- Eleanor!" She wasn't quite sure how to form the word definitely, but she had heard it before, she knew it! She proceeded to chant the name, "Ellie-anor, Ellie-anor, Ellie-anor!" The best she could. So excited was the pink bundle of fuzz that she toppled from her basket. It was only when she was standing again, albeit a bit wobbly, that she found herself staring up at another. Again, her eyes stretched wide and she bore a large smile, before charging the other and nuzzling him all over. Yes, she was new and the world was so full of excitement and joy, but now that she had someone to share it with, it would be even better! LOLTERNATIVE This was my first time writing as a recently popped foal (or a foal at all, for that matter) so I apologize if it's sorta weird. sweatdrop

Izotz watched as the basket wiggled and his nostrils flared. Finally, the foal emerged and he watched her - for it was obviously female - for a few moments. When she spoke, he winced and shrunk back. Did all foals have such high-pitched voices? And then she was on him; all nuzzles and friendly. He took a few steps back, nudging her back.
"Eleanor, is it?" He asked, eying the mare with a raised brow. "Just uh.. stay right there, okay? Do you understand?" He shifted a little, pursing his lips. He couldn't very well send her out on her own the very first day she came out of the basket. He'd have to make sure she could at least survive. As if on cue, his stomach rumbled and it occurred to him that he had not yet eaten. He stood, heading out of the cave. Turning, he nodded his head towards the filly. "Come on. Let's get some food."

Eleanor was uncertain to why she had been pushed back in such a manner and looked up at the other curiously. She seemed to have a good grasp of language and words for things. It was likely that her name hadn't been the only thing that was whispered to her while she was in the basket. Once she gained her bearings, it would be only a matter of time before she started talking in actual sentences. For the time being, however, it was limited to scattered words. She found the blue stallion's words easy to understand and she gave an excited (albeit wobbly) jump in place when he said her name. He told her to stay where she was, but she found that almost impossible! She wanted to run and jump and play, all with him at her side! She wanted to nuzzle and cuddle and stay close by the warm fire at night! She just wanted to be beside him always and love him forever and-- Suddenly, his stomach rumbled and she let out a squeal of surprise and delight. With perked ears she advanced toward him and stared curiously at his stomach, before looking at him with a question in her eyes. Why did it make such a funny sound? She took only a single step back when he stood and kept close to his side when he told her to join him. Oh goody! Now she'd be able to keep very close to him if they were going out! Right? "Okay, Daddy!" She hoped right along after him, keeping close to his shoulder and grinning from ear to ear, clearly not having processed what she'd said. It was her first day out of the basket and her first day out into the world! How exciting! LOLTERNATIVE Ah ha, it's only now that I realize the pink/blue fun between the two of them. x3

Izotz stumbled a little when she called him daddy and he had opened his mouth to speak and correct her but he somehow knew it would fall upon deaf ears. He sighed, shaking his head - the frown ever present on his brow. It was a short walk to the berry bush - it was a light snack until he hunted something more substantial for himself. He glanced at the filly, raising a brow slightly before nosing the bush, pulling out a large branch filled with berries and placing it at her feet, nudging it towards her with his nose.
He helped himself, the juices staining his mouth and dripping down his chin. He turned to look at her, shifting. "Where are your parents?" He wasn't sure if she knew or if she even understood at this point. But he didn't see any harm in asking.

Eleanor trotted after the pale blue stallion, glee evident in her bouncy pace. She kept beside him at all times, never straying from his side. Despite being pushed away from him earlier, the filly seemed to want nothing more than to get as close to the large stallion as she could, without him moving her away again. Her mind was already expanding and she had decided that if she leave three inches of space between their shoulders (though hers didn't reach the stallion's, of course) that this would be a comfortable amount of space between each of them. Soon enough, they reached a large bush and she watched as the stallion plucked a large branch from the bush and placed it at her hooves. She sniffed at the branch curiously and glanced back up at her companion, seeing him eat the round, circular bits off the branch. Imitating her role model, she found that whatever she was eating was delicious! "Daddy, Daddy!" She asked when she had eaten most of the juicy bits off of the branch, "What's this stuff?" She was looking up at him expectantly, with juice staining her lips and her head tilted to one side. The reply he gave her was a question of his own which stumped her flat out. Where were who? Her puzzled expression reflected her confused thoughts and she gave a simple answer. "I dunno!"

Izotz's ears twitched and flicked at the filly's high pitched voice. Were all children as such? She didn't seem capable of understanding personal space and the stallion grew tired of trying. He ate in silent thought - what was he to do? Send the filly off into the mountains in hopes she finds another? Search for her parents? He shook his head - it could take months, years. A waste of time, in the end. The filly's voice broke through and he sucked in a breath - a berry along with it - at her calling him daddy. Coughing, the berry came up and he stared at her, breathing heavily.
He opened his mouth to correct her but the innocent look she gave him made him bit his tongue. He wasn't a monster - a little rough around the edges, perhaps, but he wasn't about to break the poor filly's heart when she had no one. Instead, he pulled down another branch of berries and placed them at her feet. "Food. Raspberry, it's called, I think.." He gave a shrug. "Finish up and we'll go for a wander,"
Perhaps he could set her to a task to give him time to practice his forms.belloblossom Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your patience. Should be back to normal now!

A raspberry! Eleanor's eyes looked down at the small berry in wonder, before contentedly gulping down some more. The juice was starting to stain her muzzle, only a slight difference in color from her pink coat. She paid no attention to it, but from another view it could look quite silly. At any rate, as soon as her Daddy spoke again, her head shot up in in attentiveness. "We're going on a wander?" She echoed, her ears perked up in curiosity as she tilted her head to one side, "What's a wander?" She wondered. Her hunger satiated, she left the branches of berries behind and looked up at the stallion before her, her tail swishing behind her. She looked at it in surprise, before examining her father again. "Daddy!" She cried in amazement, "My tail doesn't look like yours! Why is that?"LOLTERNATIVE It's all good! I'm just glad to have you back! 3nodding

Izotz looked at the filly with just the hint of a smirk on his features as she enjoyed her raspberries. It was refreshing to see such innocence - even if it was a hindrance on his usual routine. He nudged her forward, making sure she kept close to him in case danger revealed itself. His muscles tensed at the thought and he clicked his tongue - it had been weeks now since he practiced and though he knew everything off by heart, he worried he would be rusty. All the more reason to move.
"A walk. To check the surroundings and make sure there's no one lurking." And maybe find your parents, he thought to himself. At her question, he glanced down at her tail and his own flicked briefly. "I am Ulun'suti. You are unicorn." belloblossom Sickness killed muse. ugh. @_@

Eleanor made no sounds of protest as she was nudged forward, taking this as the chance to stride forward and see all there was to see in the world, though never straying out of sight from her daddy. She hadn't known what he meant by "making sure no one is lurking", but she supposed that could mean that someone else would have to be around and how exciting that would be! She jumped and skipped at the thought. "We're on a waaaalk, we're on a waaaaalk!" She chanted, only to stumble a little in the middle, which caused her to retreat back to her daddy, just in time to hear him say that he was an Ulun'whatsit, and that she was a Unicorn. Blue eyes stared up to the taller stallion in wonder, before she whispered to herself. "I am a Unicorn." And then louder, "I'm a Unicorn! Unicorn, Unicorn, that's me! Wheeee!"Kicking up her legs she darted forward, obviously pleased with this newfound information. When she became momentarily tired, she was back at her daddy's side at an instant. "Daddy, what's a Unicorn?"LOLTERNATIVE Oh dear, I'm very sorry to hear that. Thank you for posting despite the sickness! heart
