There were two primary failures of command- losing the faith and confidence of subordinates of competence and losing their regard that they were cared for. Once Schörl heard of the recruited member from the New Year's strike, and heard that the little dish was settled in, she'd sent a missive along the crystal communicators of a time, place and date in the city to meet. The General cared.

She cared very much that this new blood was properly taken care of in more than just a place to sleep. This one was captured to begin with. That will not do. And it will be good to check on what sort, if any, of training Galena is affording her. If the little corrupted is being schooled in how to gather and hold energy as orbs, how to draw a starseed from a target, how to fight. Given opportunities to test her magic and expand its usefulness with strategy. If not, I can provide these things.

The General waited on the roof deck of one of the downtown accounting firms, taking in the dismal architecture and winter-dead greenwall on the far end. Waiting was boring, but sometimes a necessity.

sorry this took a while to get up!

It was so different from what she could remember of her life before, coming back in tiny shreds to be sorted away in her journal; no one had sought her out to mentor her as a senshi. Not that she could remember. She vaguely remembered following, fawning, praising - but she remembered nothing of phone calls. Inquiries. Training, such as she was receiving here.

Now a general, a general, was reaching out to her. Amphitrite couldn't have known it was the same general whose whip had led to her capture in the first place... although if she had, the first thing she would have done would have been to fall at the woman's feet and express to her that, for all that had happened, she owed her debt she could never repay in this life.

As it was, she clambered eagerly to the roof deck, and knowing Schörl's rank and importance, thought to bow - it was the most respectful thing she knew how to do, and this was the first general! "So sorry to keep you waiting - I hope you weren't for long, " she greeted warmly, eagerly. "Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me."

"If you can learn, then you will prove it no trouble to my time." Schörl smiled at the bow. While hierarchy for its own sake was frivolous ritual, it had its place in the early stages. It gave the new, the young, the unsure, something to build from. Whether this was genuine or pandering, the girl's demeanor throughout would tell. Or, at least the general qualified to her equally fallible self, it would be a challenge to discern and read.

"There come times when some of our agents are left alone for too long without guidance or contact. It is a risk of so few spread over so far- some orders have to be assumed as standing despite circumstances and followed without presence of a superior officer. But you need to be able to face those orders and those times with clear ability and cool efficiency. "

"And in the end...really...I want you to know that you can contact me. As I have you through the crystal communicator. While I serve the Special Operations, I want officers to know that I am always available to help them. " Schörl offered out her hand to shake, using physical contact and the symbol of that western greeting as an implied bond. Physical contact had implications to the subconscious she could make use of. "Our names are known by rosters, but now we are face to face. Let's acquaint. I am General Schörl. "

"Tell me what you've been taught so far."

It didn't take much to impress Amphitrite when it came to higher ranked officers, not this early in the game. They often possessed the kinds of qualities she strived for in her new life... confidence, passion, strength. Maybe they all weren't what they seemed, but seeming was enough. People like Schörl, when she saw them, she saw inspiration - and the way she carried herself inspired something more in the senshi. Maybe it was because of the way she carried herself? The power that just naturally seemed to radiate from her.

She nodded along to what the general said about following orders, and the image of Laurelite extending her hand to her after her corruption came to mind. Yes; come what may, she was determined to face it unflinchingly.

When Schörl extended her hand, a smile flitted across the senate's face as she took it, grasping it firmly as she gave it a shake. "It's a pleasure, General Schörl - Amphitrite, senshi of shells, at your service." So far? Well, "I've done some training with regards to using my magic more effectively since it's defensive, and I've also done some work on effective tactics to gather energy." It didn't really sound like much when she said it out loud. "I know I've got a long way to go, but I'm ready to do whatever it takes."

The general nodded, listening along to the report. It was a good start, covering some of the basics. "Magic is a finite resource, unfortunately. The tactics of using it to best effect, even if it is defensive, often require the ability to weather regular combat. And you'll need a reliable offense, anyway, if you're going to make use of the energy gathering- other senshi and knights will try to get in the way. "

"We need the energy, you see. It powers all the protections we have set up around the throne, around the leys of the Earth. The energy we harvest means we have the strength to resist any further attempt by the Moon, or its many senshi and knight allies, to reduce the rest of this world and it's people into wraiths like the Hall of Shadows. It helps us prevent them from sinking any more of the magical world to the caverns and shallow world where our Dark Kingdom rests. Maybe someday we will gather enough to raise it anew. Wouldn't that be grand? And our Queen could sit the throne unchallenged and untroubled be war. You are a part of that. You are a valued mistress of the court."

Schörl drew back her hand and lifted it like a target. "Let's start with that offense. Show me a punch. A kick. Hit my hand as I move it. Don't worry about hurting me- that's part of battle. You have to hit the target to hurt them. Pain incapacitates an enemy. Pain in the right places does it more quickly. "

"We'll polish your technique and then put it to practical work."

The more Schörl talked, the more Amphitrite could understand why she was a general. It was more than just a power level thing; just listen to the way she talked about the Negaverse and what it stood for. Without even realizing it, the corrupt senshi was hanging on her every word. It didn't hurt that she'd supported the Negaverse and Laurelite from the start - but even if she hadn't, she was sure her heart would have been swayed by words like that. Now, it just solidified the pride and resolve that had already taken root in her very essence.

It was also the first in-depth explanation she'd heard about why energy was so important to their cause. Didn't it only make sense, really, that the people of earth would donate their energy to protect their planet from invaders? If they only knew what the Negaverse was asking them, if they only knew what kinds of people the Order were - she found herself smiling to think that she was a part of that. She had truly awakened at the hands of Laurelite for a much greater cause, hadn't she? "I hope it happens one day, " she said, the awe of the story catching in her throat and seeping into her voice. The earth would be a much greater place with their queen at the helm, wouldn't it?

As for the hit, though - Amphitrite drew a deep breath as she curled her hands into fists and nodded, furrowing her brow in a resolved kind of way as she readied herself to strike. There was nothing exemplory about her strength, of course. She was a teenage girl whose greatest physical prowess had been swimming, and she hadn't even been the best. The strike of one hand was subtly, though noticeable, weaker than the other - the result of her broken wrist, even after it had healed.

Really, her best assets were her sheer willpower and determination. Her heart was in the right place - the rest of her just needed to follow.

Schörl gave short nods with each hit to a target-palm, slowly increasing the speed of moving her hands to test the senshi's reaction speed and accuracy. Not particularly exceptional strength for a basic senshi. Likely not more than a generalized gym or light sports so far. The doubling of strength from lifting forty to eighty pounds is significant, but still less than the power output of what we could have gotten elsewhere. Why aren't we recruiting from the track teams, baseball, soccer, volleyball, chess and forensics. I wonder if she was on such clubs. She must be about high school age. She may not even remember her name. Well. It can be worked with. If not strong, then fast. If not fast, then smart. If not smart, then motivated. Everything can be found a use and set of practical skills.

The general started a slow walk around Amphitrite, still moving palms as targets, to force the senshi to pivot while punching. "Have you been doing exercises of the physical therapy sort? Your arm strength is uneven from your wounds. If you don't have a resistance training rubber strip, or small 5lb weights, I can provide these for you. "

"Try mixing it up now, hit my targets with both punches AND kicks. I'm going to keep walking around you to test your balance and reaction speed. "

Pivoting in motion was one thing she did do well - many of her exercises up until that point had emphasized it to some extent. She was able to keep pace, more or less, with the general's wandering hands; again, she was not exceptional. But there was something there that would be worth refining down the line.

Conversation in the midst of this was a little trickier, but even if Amphitrite's words were a little breathy, she was able to answer, "I haven't - I'd be grateful for those tools, ma'am, thank you, " and now it was time for some kicks. If there was one thing Amphitrite had needed to adjust to as a senshi, it was balance - even if she didn't remember her struggles with her shell heels back in the beginning, they weren't for nothing. When it came to kicking, whether her blows were good or not, she took some kind of confidence in them. (Again, the shoes totally helped.)

More short nods on the connects of the target. Schörl watched the state of pivot along the motion lines and joints of the girl's body. She can keep her own balance while attacking and attacking on its own ground alright. So rare, though, that a battle not be contested.

"Progressing further- you will need to be able to keep your balance and hit your target while your enemy is trying to do the same back to you." The General stepped back one moment to allow the girl to breath. It was the work of a moment to unpin the stocktie-cravat from her throat, pocket the starseed there and tie the implement around one hand. Schörl held up both then, "One unclad, skin. One harvest gold, wrapped. Your target is now one hand- the wrapped gold. You must avoid my bare hand or resist the blows that will try to set out off balance to fall. "

As a teaching spar, Schörl was mindful to start at the senshi's own speed. It built on the previous exercises, yes, but it also introduced keeping track of two separate aspects. As a solider, more than two would be expected someday, but foundations had to be laid or the whole would degenerate. Here is one with potential to be a fine solider and a fine asset to the efforts to win Metallia all. We must teach.

The general moved in, on the offensive, holding out the gold-sashed hand to one side while bringing bare hand around in an attempt to open-palm slap Amphitrite's shoulder.

As the corrupt senshi swallowed mouthfuls of the air as greedily as water in the desert, her brow furrowed as her jaw set tight. She nodded along as Schörl explained the parameters of the exercise, and every inch of her read determination. She had to do this - or at least she had to give it everything that she had.

The funny thing that Amphitrite was going to realize was that 'proving herself', be it to the negaverse, her former allies, or herself... well, it toed a pretty damn narrow line with a more proactive goal. One that required no approval (as much as she secretly relished it - praise her, lavish her, be proud of her). Simply put: Get stronger. There was no way she could want it enough. She wanted the desire to burn a whole through her, the same as the badge of honor etched in her chest.

People like Schörl were essential to this goal. Whatever Amphitrite thought was her best, around people like the general, it wasn't. There was always better. There was always more. The corrupt senshi crouched to duck beneath Schörl's hand, then made as though to throw her body away from the 'target' while her hand slipped around to try and grab it. She doubted it would work - but she didn't want to be too obvious on her first shot.

The quick response and eagerness to act were appreciated. What wasn't perfect, but which learned, was worth more than a static piece with some skill already. Schörl let the senshi's reach for the gold-marked hand connect, but brought her own second hand that had missed its initial strike to return for a backhanded blow. Amphitrite needed to be exposed to the many sorts of decisions of live combat, and training was the place to do it- reaching, sacrificing or feinting for a goal, one had to be prepared of the possibility of taking a hit. Keeping feet, target, and goals in mind, and persevering through pain was every bit as much trainable and practicable.

It was, so far, going well.

As long as Amphitrite wasn't breathing hard or seriously injured, it was a good opportunity for a full lesson live sparring. One mark of the gold down. Push your limits, little luv. "Don't be afraid to use your magic if you think it is appropriate for the moment, either. "

She connected with the gold mark - Amphitrite's spirits soared in that moment, an ecstatic smile stretching across her face. On her first shot! She didn't expect -

- the backhanded blow that connected soundly with her shoulder, a small sound escaping the corrupt as she backed up a pace or two. It wasn't so much about hurt as it was vague annoyance with herself for getting distracted. Who was she to assume that catching the target meant the exercise was over?

Oh! Magic! Of course! The corrupt ducked in again, waiting until the general made a move before calling, "Gift of the Ocean, " and a pair of scallop shells appeared on her forearms in a flash. She swung her arm up, attempting to use the shell to block any blow that might be coming on her path to the target.

Something cute, something innocent pervaded the immediate response and use of magic that skipped over the entire part of the statement that said 'appropriate for the moment.' Eager to please like a puppy or toddler- the senshi had heard the suggestion and immediately made use of it. Tactically unsound, and tactically to be pointed out- the General leaned out of the arch, dropping weight and presence for a swift sweep with a long boot at Amphitrite's legs, " 'When appropriate' probably means when an enemy doesn't expect it, luv. "

"Well done for response time, though." Is that a part of her natural state, this innocence? Or is it a result of the process to draw her across? They are funny creatures, this refurbished dolls. I've not had the chance to know many. Carnelian wasn't near so eager to hand. He was already some time established.

" -- oof!" the corrupt grunted as she hit the ground, dazed momentarily before she righted herself, pulling herself first up onto her knees with a slight, sheepish little smile. "Oh, of course -- I'll remember that going forward, General, my apologies. Won't happen again!"

She didn't remember enough to know how ill-prepared she was to be a senshi, but she knew enough from Laurelite to understand that the order had done nothing for her. Either way, she was back on her feet in no time, determined to make amends for her slip-up. "Should we try again?" she asked, ready to move if so, ready to stop if told.

Schörl lifted the gold-wrapped hand, palm out, patting the air gently in a token gesture of peace. "This will do for now, you tagged the target successfully, as well the warm up before hand as far as addressing physical prowess. It provides a template on how to start training with some of your compatriots. "

"More importantly, what were the lessons I tried to impart today for your mind, rather than your body? Think critically about the purposes, tell me rightly what you have learned to take you further, and I will be content. " A good start that could flourish with the correct tending from other officers helping. 'It takes a village.' We need officers that are more than just their fists, to make effective units that can react tactically and neutralize senshi and knights out in the field. In order to maximize collections and conversion.
