OK, so I have been getting panic attacks for no reason at all lately. I am leading a relatively stress-free lifestyle, and it is not just a hormone flare up because it is "that time of month". I exercise regularly, and I eat pretty healthily as well. I can't think of anything else that would set them off, really...
I can be sitting and watching cartoons or something, and I will get one. They are sometimes really bad, and one time last year I had one that lasted about thirty or forty minutes. Pure torture I tell you.
I was wondering if this is normal for teens to go through, and if not, what I should try and to do help... thanks ahead of time!

I_Love_Music im sorry to bother you, but what exactly are panic attacks? Read post 2 of this sticky: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=1450215To the original poster, panic attacks are not normal. Seeing a doctor, counsellor or therapist of some sort might help you. You might be able to get some anti-anxiety medication, or if not, the counselling might be able to help aleviate your panic attacks. Sometimes they can happen for no reason at all, and that's definitely not normal.

I suppose it would not hurt to go to a psycologist or something, but I am allergic to a lot of medicine, which presents a problem for any of my doctors blaugh

I get panic attacks but that is when I see or hear the guy that raped me (aquaintence rape) but you should go to a doctor because obviously you need to find a way to put a stop to your attacks.

I feel for you sad I got diagnosed with those when I was 14, but have had them my whole life. Medications haven't helped either (made things worse in my personal experience). I'd suggest counseling if you can. They can teach you techniques to help you cope.

bi-polar disorder can cause them...counseling helps some, but for an at-home treatment for the less severe one, you should drink a glass of room temperature water and hold a fluffy pillow outside, if possible...hope i help!

I used to get them fairly often.
I kept a diary of when I got them to see If I could distinguish some sort of pattern. They did swing in phase with my bi-polar moods.
Some times it's not stress but locus of control. Once I went to university, even though I was all on my on and more stressed, the panic attacks decreased because I had more control.

Well, the doctor that diagnosed me with panic disorder told me that hormones are always out of whack for teenagers. Even if you eat right, exercise, and are relatively stress-free; teenagers are just messed up when it comes to hormones. But, hormones may or may not be the cause. Likes the others said, it'd be a good idea to talk to a doctor about it.
