Roll a Nine: Seashore Field: Split down the middle between land and sea, this field compliments land and water type pokemon. On the west end of the field is the land section: fine grained sand gradually slopes downward to meet the salt water on the east end of the battleground. A single palm tree wavers lightly in the breeze while shells are scattered in random places in and on the sand. In the water half of the battleground, the water laps at the sand much like at a real beach; when it retracts it leaves behind strands of seaweed and pieces of coral. Both are found under the water, offering shelter for water-types (or those who can hold their breath for great periods of times). This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to GROUND and WATER type attacks.

Urthemiel entered the stadium, feeling slightly worried about the coming battle. Her parents had said that she should take part in some battles with Elaine in order to become stronger so she could protect herself, but she'd never had a pokemon before, let alone battled. What if Elaine got hurt?
As far as the cleffa in question went, she was riding on the teenager's shoulder with not a care in the world. The space hamster yawned as they crossed the doorway into the field designated for them before seeing a vast seashore. The cleffa's eyes went wide, as did the eyes of the teenager carrying her. They had never seen a beach before, even an artificial one such as this. The fairy-type jumped down from Urthemiel's shoulder and scampered onto the sand before the teenager could protest. A cry for Elaine's attention died on Urthemiel's lips as they curled into a smile at the sight of the cleffa having fun.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

Lyle hummed to himself as he trotted onto the field, then stopped when he caught sight of this. He had battled lots of times, but didn't remember seeing this field before. "Coool," he said, kind of wishing he'd picked Comet for this battle. He would love this.
But then Lyle shook his head and continued on to his space at the edge of the field. Comet had plenty of experience, and someone else needed more. "Go, Hematite!" he said as he tossed his chosen pokeball into the air, releasing his Haunter into the stadium.

Lyle looked across the field to see what he was facing. When he spotted the little pink pokemon, he smiled at how cute it was. But he had a battle to fight. So, that was a Cleffa, which meant it was weak too..."Hematite, start with Sludge Bomb."
His pokemon cupped her hands together, and a thick purple substance bubbled up between them. It gathered into a tight glob, which the Haunter tossed at her opponent.

Distracted by the waves, Elaine didn't even notice the haunter, or the sludge bomb, until it was far too late. Frantically wiping off the sludge, it proved futile as the tiny pokemon was coated head to toe.
Urthemiel gasped at her cleffa's appearance and tried to think of the strategies her parents had told her. "Um, Elaine, sing!"
The cleffa nodded her understanding and began to hum quietly.

Fortunately for Hematite, the humming was quiet enough that she barely heard it. Lyle's voice was far more clear. "Good job! Now give 'em an Venoshock!"
Hematite held out her hands and shot a burst of green liquid at the little fairy.

The green liquid mixed with the sludge, causing a chemical reaction that burned the cleffa. As Urthemiel looked on, helpless, Elaine continued to hum, louder now.

Hematite drowned out the humming by blowing a raspberry at Elaine.
"Keep at it!" Lyle cheered.
So the Haunter again tossed a wave of green liquid at her opponent.

Hematite seemed to be doing fine, so Lyle let her continue without instruction. She ignored the humming and kept splashing the liquid.

As the last of the poison dripped off of her, Elaine collapsed, and Urthemiel hurriedly returned the fairy-type to her pokeball. With a hasty bow to their opponents, the teenager left to get the cleffa medical attention.

Lyle was surprised when the Cleffa collapsed. It was down already? That might have been the fastest battle he'd ever had. Then he shrugged, recalled Hematite, and headed out.
