Kostya stood at a distance, levelling his blank gaze on the target. Syntax thrummed with electricity on his arm, its blue and red patterning dancing with light. He loosed a shot that landed on its mark, a ball of electricity arcing through the air. He looked calm, impassive. He caught sight of someone approaching, and offered a polite wave. "If you are up for spar, I vould prefer the company to something inanimate."

Chance was also on the field, doing a few practice runs with Asher, who kept thrumming happily inside of his head, the weapon clearly pleased that its owner was actually out and about doing things, rather than mulling about in his room. Considering that was all he'd done as of late, it was nice to have an outlet to relax and breathe.
The voice caught him by surprise, and Chance lifted his gaze, an unfamiliar man in front of him. He straightened a little and smiled.
"Sure, I'm game," he said lightly, holding out his hand. "I'm Chance, by the way, I don't think I've seen you around before..?"

There was no smile; but there was a polite bow of the head, a sign of acknowledgement and appreciation for acceptancence of his offer. "Is nice to meet you, Chance." Kostya dusted his free hand off on his clothes, rubbing off dirt that'd blown back from a particularly nasty ball of energy hitting the turf. He embraced Chance's hand with a firm grip-- one that was, in fact, veering close to painful. Not maliciously: there was no sign of irritation or rage. Just the inability to grasp his own strength. "I am Konstantin."

His smile was mild, as the other man gripped his hand curiously hard; Chance tilted his head, scrutinizing without being too intense about it, and then raised his eyebrows as he let go, sliding the one that wasn't holding his bow into the pocket of his jeans.
"A pleasure, Konstantin," said Chance mildly, and then took a few steps back, raising the bow and notching an arrow in preparation.
"So, tell me a bit about yourself," he said with a smile as he let the first arrow fly.

Two ranged opponents: good. An interesting match. The first arrow pierced his shield, pain blossoming from the point of impact in his shoulder. Syntax giggled contentedly at the exercise, his translucent blue covered in red runes that danced to life. Kostya fired, satisfied in the shot's efficiency. "I am Death division hunter. Formerly Moon. Live in town vith America Jones, but are not dating. Just friends." It was necessary, to put those facts together. It was more important now than ever, with how she was dating Obadiah. "Most of work is classified. Most time I spend spare hours vorking on lot next to America house. Am building underground bunker." He looked at Chance, expectant. hp 46 dmg 9 charge 1/3, SS2, GC3 remain

Chance was very glad to be sparring against another long range hunter; they seemed to be few and far between here on the island - or, at least, in the case of attempting to find good partners.
He felt the push of the weapon against his own shoulder, Chance staggering back a few steps. Angling the bow a little differently, he pulled another arrow into existence and fitted it against the wire, tugging experimentally on it for a moment before yanking it back completely.
"Ah, America," Chance said with a smile. "She's the feisty redhead, I sparred against her a few days ago. I like her, she's pretty fun. An underground bunker sounds pretty cool, though; is that just for safety?"
The accent made him curious, the classified work even more so. Chance hummed appreciatively and let the next arrow go, shifting his feet to brace for the release.
"I'm a Sun Hunter; I've been here about seven months or so now," said Chance mildly. "I don't live with anyone, at least not yet, and I spend most of my time training or just learning my way about the island. The people here are endlessly interesting."

The arrow flew swift and true, and had Kostya lacked a shield, it would have embedded itself in his neck. (The briefest of nods in approval: efficiency, effectiveness, even-handed. His favourite three E words, indeed.) Chance's opinion of America elevated him in Kostya's eyes, and he nodded in the affirmative. "In part. Have been many case of power outage and like on island. Also flooding. It protect from fire, vater, and although on main grid, vill vun day have temporary generator too. Has freezer for food, and a number of dry good. Plus general emergency supply-- vhen power vas gone, did have to make good use of all things. Also,above ground it is no house, all garden. Hanging and normal both. To grow food for island. Ve are hoping they are less alive than previous year attempts." He stopped, growing almost flustered for a second, regaining his cool just in time to fire another blast at Chance. "Apologies, Chance. I am very enthusiastic on subject matter. Velcome, to island. It has been quiet, but do not think it vill be this vay. Bad thing have habit of happening vhen not looking." hp 38 dmg 9 charge 2/3, SS2, GC3 remain

He caught the nod, and it made him smile a little more. Gaining Konstantin's approval was something rather satisfying, in spite of the recent meeting, and Chance listened with curiosity, already stringing another arrow into place and notching it against the wire.
"That sounds very reasonable, very efficient," he said thoughtfully. "I personally haven't been through any of those things myself - the power outages and disasters, I mean, but I know that they happen, so I think having that backup is definitely important."
The blast caught him off guard - he was too busy thinking about the bunker and all of the possibilities - and Chance stumbled back, letting out a little sound of surprise. He caught his footing and readjusted, laughing as he raked a hand through his hair.
"I like enthusiasm," he said with a smile and fired off a shot, but his aim was off. "No apologies necessary, really. I think it's definitely interesting."

The word efficient gave Kostya a sensation as close to elation as he could have, in his experience. "Give it time, it vill come. I have been here for three year, in few month. Plenty of chance for this to happen." He watched Chance's emotions change-- he was not so flagrant, not as some, but he had good representations of emotion-- smiles, demeanours, little actions-- that would define him in Kostya's mind. Everyone had a catalog of habits and likes and dislikes-- those he could understand. Grasping any deeper meaning, well. That was still difficult, for anyone but America. He was trying, though. "I am glad you agree," Kostya said, and fired off a series of blasts that twisted and turned in the air, a few of them hitting, a few of them not. "I am lot that has backyard connected to America, if you ever vish to come see it." hp 38 dmg 8 charge 3/3, SS2, GC3 remain
