Cae: Lightly thumping the heavy door to his apartment, more of a habit than anything necessary, he waits for the door to slide open before strolling through. Stretching a bit, he calls out as the door thunks shut behind him. "Anyone home?"

Tilting her head as the sound of the door opening pulled her away from her current project, Tayce looked up from the couch and powered down the aerogel of her omnitool.
Rolling her eyes at him in a sarcastic response, -where else would the mute girl that still didn't know her way around be?-, she pushed air out in a silent sigh as the voder chimed for her.
^This one would convey that they do not want a parent figure.^
Shaking her head, she pressed a button on her omni to turn off the infernal thing. It was better than nothing, she supposed.

Smirking a bit and turning to spot her on the couch, he tried not to laugh at the voder's interpretation. She was trying, at least, and it might help her out in the long run.
"Still getting the hang of it?"
He strips off some of his armor, setting his pistol on the coffee table, before heading over to the couch to join her.
"Make any progress?"

Throwing her hands up in a large writ gesture, Tayce then promptly slumped into the couch, her frustration apparent. She'd been on Omega a few months now and the hope of going home felt like a bitter lie to herself. At least she wasn't completely useless, but it wasn't like she could go on jobs by herself or even go get groceries or anything on her own.
She could follow along with basic Galactic as long as the sentences were short and the words simple, but she'd gotten used to Cae enough that she caught the meaning from him if not the words. He pretty much was her crutch and she felt horrible about it.
Shaking her head to put a point on it, she unlatched her omnitool and gently tossed it onto the coffee table beside his gun, bringing her knees up so she could encircle her arms around them and hide her face against her knees.

"Yeah, I know..."
He frowns a bit, her frustration blatantly obvious. Reaching over to her, he nudges her shoulder lightly, leaning over to try and catch her gaze with a light smile.
"Hey, mind if I try something? I might be able to help."

Turning her head to face him at the prodding, she clenched her teeth for a moment to swallow down the warmth that started to spread from just him being so close. It was silly, and probably just because she was so far from home and he was nice and she saw him every day... or, at least that was her mantra lately. It's not like- well, she wasn't going to think on that.
There was a word or two there that she hadn't caught, but she got the gist and returned his smile before nodding; a rather awkward feat while still pressed against her own knees.

He nods back, scooting a little closer to her on the couch. Putting up his hands, he tried to reassure her that he didn't mean her harm, especially after the first time he tried to give her medigel.
Reaching over to touch her hand, mostly for effect, he reached out with his mind, searching for hers. It took him a bit, it was a new skill that he'd need to practice, but eventually he made a tentative connection with her.
/Anyone home?/

Torn between leaning into him and leaning away, she just focuses on holding as still as possible. Eyeing him suspiciously as he held up his empty hands to her, she watched as he reached out for her hand and put his over it.
Unsure what he was up to, or what she was supposed to do, she- WHAT.WHAT.
Snatching her hand away from him, she shot off the couch and was halfway across the room before she turned around to stare at him while wheezing. Eyes wide as her hands reach up to touch her forehead in concern.

He was about to 'whoop!' with success when she bolted from the couch, leaning back a bit to avoid any backlash she might want to throw at him. Putting up his hands again, he slowly got off the couch, frowning slightly.
"Easy. I'm not going to hurt you. But...you heard me? It worked?"
He moved to the end of the couch, not wanting to corner her, but close enough to see her reaction. Holding his hand out to her, he stayed put, rather aware of what kind of shock that probably was, even more so for someone who didn't fully understand what he was saying.

She continued to wheeze for a long minute, a hand over her chest as if she could quiet down her racing pulse. What. The. ********. What was that? It had...felt, she supposed, there was no other way to describe it, felt like Cae. She'd had the impression of warm and blue and ..words. Words in her language, as she'd understand them. 'Anyone home?'
But, he couldn't... how... what? She'd been on enough jobs with him to learn that his 'blue fire' was something he called Biotics. And the way he stressed the word made it a capital 'B' in her mind. Others had it too, she'd seen it, but not everyone. And it didn't seem to be related to station or wealth, which made her wonder where the hell the stuff came from. Was this... one of those things? He'd never hurt her before with it but... but...
He was still sitting on the couch, watching her. Concerned? Concerned it hurt? Or just... but his hand was still stretched out. Running both hands over her face, she bounced on the balls of her feet for a moment, taking a deep breath. Yea she trusted him, but this was -in her head-. In her head!
After a moment, she looked at him again wearily and took a cautious step in his direction. Shooting him a dark look, promising a world of pain if he hurt her, she reached out with a shaking hand to touch his palm with her fingertips.

He frowned a bit, wondering how much of a jolt that was, especially with her reaction. It wasn't as if he could have warned her any better, but...well, if this worked he wouldn't need to worry about that so much.
Waiting until she made a move towards him, until she was touching his hand before he tried again. Nodding lightly, he reached out for her again, making the connection.
/Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. This is still new to me too./
He did his best to keep his presence light, so as not to overwhelm her. Or as light as he could manage, at least.

Taking another deep breath at his nod, she steeled herself against... well, anything really. What was she supposed to expec- woah!
She pulled her fingers back instinctively and had to struggle with herself to touch his palm again. The break was brief, but she'd only caught part of his message. Her eyes wide as she stared at him and then at their hands, she tilted her head and chewed her bottom lip.
It didn't hurt, felt weird yes, but pain no. Sort of... like a sound, like having a tune you can't quite remember stuck in your head. Something was there, but it wasn't definable. This wasn't anything she was prepared to deal with, and had no idea how to respond. Was she supposed to grasp for the feeling? How? What? How was this even possible? She winced with a wheeze, trying to calm down so she wouldn't cough. The urge to was starting to press, so she focused on taking even breaths for a moment before looking back at him.
Confused, she tilted her head the other way and decided to try something. Thinking as loudly as she could at him, she imagined herself saying something to him with her hands cupped around her mouth to amplify the silent roar.
/CAN YOU HEAR ME? CAE? WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?/

He frowned, worried at her breathing troubles. He could feel something from her, just...hard to make sense of it. But she was trying to respond at least?
Taking a bit of a risk, he closed his hand gently around hers, scooting closer just a bit.
/You're trying to respond, I can feel it. ...Can you understand me?/
He tilted his head a bit, whispering to her after a few moments.
"Can you understand me?"

She had to fight down the urge to panic as his hand folded up around hers. She knew she could get away if it came to that but there was a moment of pure fear all the same. This wasn't something she knew how to fight, or what it even was. But... she could understand him.
Nodding slowly at first, then vigorously with wide eyes, she marveled at this new trick. Was this some techno thingy he went out and bought? She still had no idea how this was possible, or. Wait. If he was in her head, could he see her thoughts? What could he do to her? What could he take?
Paling at the thought, she looked down at his concerned face and quieted herself. This was Cae, if he wanted to cause trouble (well, -more- trouble) he would've already. And if he could teach her to do this... she might be able to get around. Even get home.
/YES! Yes! I can hear you, I understand you!/

He frowns slightly, she was trying to say something, he just had no idea what. There was a lot of energy behind it, but that could be almost anything.
/So you can understand me...but I can't understand you. That's something, at least./
He nodded lightly, taking a deep breath, trying to relax. Looking at the couch behind him, he scooted over slowly, lightly tugging on her hand, but not pulling her.
/Sit down with me? I can only do this while we're touching, and I don't want to keep you standing there.../
He smiled up at her, relief pouring through him at the thought of being able to communicate, even if it was only one-way.
