Hobbies:

Theatre –
Gently is a theatre geek. She absolutely adores it, and spends a lot of her time involved in it, in one way or another. She loves acting and directing, which takes up a majority of her focus, but she also very much enjoys the technical aspects, and is willing to offer her help to any show, at any time, for any reason. Building sets, designing, concessions and house, lights and sound: she finds it all enjoyable in its own way. That’s not to say she’s good at all of it, of course. Her talents range between good, well practiced, to ‘tries hard’ and ‘maybe you should go stand over there while we do this’. No one ever asks her for help with costumes or make up, as that lesson has long been learned in her community. Designing sets is also not what one might call a strong suit with her, and is probably left to more artistic types. In any case, she has immersed herself in the theatre world of Destiny City, and is a director at the Destiny City Classical Theatre Company, which mostly sticks to its title but has been branching out in recent years, now that it has funds to pay for royalties, into modern plays and even musical theatre. She also uses theatre as an education and community service tool.

Inventing/Gadgets –
Another thing that Gently absolutely adores are gadgets. She likes to deconstruct strange gizmos she finds at yard sales or other similar purchasing opportunities, and engineer new things from all the strange bits and pieces she has managed to collect over the year. Some tools are more practical than other. Her automatic cat scratcher, for example, works much better when it is not turned on (as when it is it makes a horrifying noise and the protruding ‘human finger like’ attachment moves with a bit too much gusto to be considered anything but a feline torture device). Though she might not be good at her designing and building of gadgets, that does not discourage her from enjoying it. On top of that, she also loves to buy the newest electronics and home essentials, all the inventions that are sold on TV or in specialty stores, just to see what is useful and what isn’t. The home shopping network, particularly at late night, is like a drug to her, and someone should probably block the channels from her at some point.

Rivalry –
Nothing makes life more fun than a bit of healthy competition. And Gently definitely believes this. She enjoys making friends as much as the next person, but she believes a true friendship is born of a rivalry. The best kind of people are the ones who will not shy a way from a challenge or a bet, and will face her head on in whatever dare she brings to the table. Whatever effort she makes to one up them, she fully expects them to come back with their own even better effort later. From prank wars to almost-true rivalries, Gently is liable to spend a lot of her time competing. The point is not to win, though that is certainly a perk when it does happen. No, to Gently, it’s the game, the way they play and the rules they set between them, that is the most important thing. It is the best way for her to bond with someone, to understand them on a personal level: she gets to see what kind of a rival they are.

Virtues:

Ambitious/Dedicated --
If there one thing Gently isn't, it's a quitter. She doesn't know the meaning of the word. Probably literally. In any case, when she tries something she sticks to it, regardless of any failures or road bumps along the way. If a plan or an idea doesn't work out, that does not discourage her from trying something else, or attempting the same plan a different way. Though, honestly, she's not fond of doing the same thing twice: variety is the spice of life! In any case, she is an eager young woman who has a lot of ideas, and likes to try a multitude of different things. This can range from how she spends her time for the day to organizing events at the theatre, or how to one up her newest rival. It's also why she can build gadgets that continuously don't work, or at least don't work how she intended them to, and not be discouraged to stop her 'inventing'. In her mind, life is a series of goals, and she wants to always be striving for something.

Helpful/Eager –
For all her ambition and the need for rivalry, Gently is a kind soul. She likes helping the community and those less fortunate, and uses her theatre and improv for fundraising and awareness programs. She often signs up for various kinds of performance-based or particularly showy volunteer or community efforts. When they let her, she likes to be involved in news segments and radio events at local media outlets as well. She just likes to be seen, and if she can bring other things to be seen with her, like charity groups or spreading knowledge about some event or issue, that’s even better. She doesn’t yet know how to be a bad guy, though she’s certainly trying to get the hang of it with her usual gusto. The fact that she is now Negaverse doesn’t actually hamper her want to help people: why not let them live happy lives before they’re used for a greater purpose? That greater purpose being when they become a target of one of her complicated energy hunting escapades, and their lives have to be ended in the name of the Negaverse.

Clever/Creative –
Gently is clever in a creative way. She loves coming up with overly complicated plans, which applies to all aspects of her life. If she’s directing a play, she likes to use strange hooks that most directors stay away from. Yes, she learned in school that setting a play in space just for the shtick of it was the mark of a superfluous director, but when the end goal is just to have fun, Gently doesn’t really care. She’s not doing it for renown: she’s doing it for those in it and watching it to enjoy. If she’s seeking a rivalry her one-upmanship is going to be convoluted and might not work out, but it will be spectacular to watch. It’s why she can’t build a regular alarm clock, but one with arm extensions to poke with. And now, it’s why her plots to serve the Negaverse are a bit nefarious and over the top, in a villain-y kind of way.

Flaws:

Foilable/Unconfident –
It isn’t surprising that complicated plots carrying exponentially increased risk of failure. No matter how hard she plans, nothing is infallible, and she is not capable of making the perfect plan (just don’t tell her that). While she is successful when it comes to some of her efforts, her ambition can get ahead of her, and her broad goals might mean she’s reaching a bit too far, and she doesn’t see it. Most of the time she is legitimately not thinking everything through, though sometimes it seems that she is simply subconsciously building in weaknesses. This stems from a lack of self confidence that she hides under all of her bravado and spunk. No, she doesn’t give up, and she seeks to do the best she can at all times, but underneath, in the back of her mind, she expects to fail, or for something to go wrong. If she’s expecting it, she believes it softens the blow when it is realized, and that allows her to keep trucking on as she always does.

Naïve/Routined –
There is a line between innocent and naïve that she can easily cross. She lives her life in a rather self-sheltered fashion: she focuses on what she knows, what she enjoys and what she is familiar with, and tends to stay away from the unknown. She isn’t much for trying new things, outside of her established hobbies (i.e. she is unlikely to go skydiving unless it is required for a play, or for Nega-themed adventure). In tying new endeavors to the familiar, she can justify the experience. But once she’s outside her bubble, she is completely lost, easily confused, and will often times try to escape or force things back to how she thinks they are supposed to be. All of this contributes to the fact that she, as a result, lacks a whole lot of ‘street smarts’ and common sense. In a simpler sense, she won’t catch every pop culture reference because she refuses to watch anything beyond what she’s already familiar with (actors she knows, plays made into shows/movies, some small tie). It is a very arbitrary way of dictating her life, but it makes her feel like she has control. She likes her routine. She likes things to ‘work’ how she knows they will work, even the failures she is used to.

Showy/Liar –
Gently is not the brightest cookie in the crayon shed. She’s not as confident as she tries to pretend. But that doesn’t stop her from showing off. She is enthusiastic and has gumption to spare, but her closed off approach to the new, coupled with other flaws she tries to hide and pretends she doesn’t see in herself, leads her to being a bit too big, a bit too loud, and a bit too vain. She is all about the presentation, the show: everything she does need to have some kind of spectacle to it. If one is destined to fail, it is best to do so spectacularly, and when she does win it’s even better. If any one asks her something she doesn’t know the answer to, if someone orders her to do something she doesn’t know how to do, she bullshits her way through. Lying and distraction are her go-to reactions if she is forced out of her comfort zone, or into the new. Essentially, she is so over the top to completely cover or even deny her lack of confidence.
