Carmen wasn't sure if all the potential senshi were hiding from the cold-ish weather or if other cats were snapping them up or what, but in her weeks of wandering, she had not found anyone who struck her as a candidate for senshi-hood. Were her standards too high? Were her judgments misplaced, her intuition off? It was getting a little worrisome. She wanted to break herself in with an awakening or an upgrade soon, preferably an awakening. What good was a Mauvian who didn't perform the services asked of them by the universe?
The snow was getting a little melty in some places, and it was making Carmen wonder if she couldn't try to wheedle a quick grooming out of a human. That damp feeling was unpleasant. Regardless, the snow melting meant that a certain tree over a somewhat busy street was available for perching in. Granted, the street wasn't so busy today, but normally there were plenty of opportunities for people watching and senshi-sniffing. So, today she lounged in that certain tree, watching for passerby and periodically taking a nap when her vigilance gave out. Nothing special seemed to be happening yet...

The snow was cold, even if it was slushy. Sure, she had a bit of fur between her toes, but that didn't mean it was comfortable to trot around in the snow-slush like that. However, to go from point A to point B during the winter, it was necessary to block out the cold in her paws.
However, it didn't mean that the chubby manx couldn't take breaks.
When she spotted a bench, the small round animal hopped up to make a seat for herself. Then rather gracelessly, shoved her feet in her mouth, one at a time. It was like eating feet-cicles, except she wasn't really eating them.
She had to warm up her toes somehow.

The sound of someone or something approaching caught Carmen's attention. When she looked down, she saw a peculiar tailless cat who appeared to be eating her own feet. Something seemed a bit unusual from a distance, so she hopped down from the tree with aplomb, trotted over to the bench, and hopped up next to the other cat. This other cat had a star on her forehead, just like she and Nicodemus did, which meant that she had found another Guardian. "Hello there," she said in greeting. "May I ask why you are eating your feet?"

Her mouth was probably full of toes when she was asked a question. The end result was that the manx attempted to respond with the toes still in her mouth.
"Gihm nob eeebeeb mgh feed*!"
Popping her newly warmed toes out of her mouth, she pointed out "It's cold out! Gotta keep warm somehow!" Now that she had answered the question, she popped the opposite foot in her mouth briefly, leaving her there to look at the other Mauvian in a nearly goofy manner.
(* I'm not eating my feet!)

********* initial response confused Carmen, who wasn't very good at parsing literal foot-in-mouth speak. When the other cat pointed to cold out, it all made sense. "Ah, I see. Though my fur is thick, the cold is still hard on my paws. Perhaps I should try that, too." Sure enough, Carmen stuck one paw in her mouth in an attempt to mimic *********, only to take it out after a few moments with a feline grimace. "It tastes like dirt. I'm not sure what I was expecting."

As the thicker furred Mauvian quickly shoved her own foot into her own mouth, the manx couldn't help but tilt her head in observation. Once the results had been aired, ********* couldn't help but giggle.
"Well, the taste isn't all that amazing, but it gets the job done as needed!" Rather than pop her own feet back in her mouth, she simply wriggled her goes again before settling into a more normal sitting position.
"Anyways, my name is *********! I haven't seen you around... are you new to the area?"

"Function over form, I suppose," Carmen mumbled, shooting another look at the paw she had shoved in her mouth. When ********* spoke again, she resumed eye contact. "Pleased to meet you, *********. I am Carmen." She paused to think of how to best explain her newness. "No, not new to the area, but I am new to my duties, you could say. New to consciousness, perhaps?" That might have made the topic sound a little more grand than it was, but then again any sort of awakening was grand in its own way (even waking up to a new day).
