Pahana stood with her back against the wall, her eyes wide with terror. She'd been perfectly asleep only minutes ago, until the slippery feet of a Spitorog hopped across her bare shoulder. At first, she thought it was only the one frog that had decided to make her bedroom it's home for the night and rose without much of an alarm, before noticing the troves of bright, beady little eyes staring up at her from the shadows. She'd screamed, quite possibly startled half the forest from it's slumber, and skidded her way across the room faster than she could process. What were all these horrible, disgusting frogs doing in her house? Was this a normal thing to happen in Jauhar? Did frogs just invade houses when people were sleeping? She held her breath as a few of the frogs hopped towards her, a whine slipping it's way out of her lips.

Well, at least Ujana didn't seem to be awake.

Honestly, if her mother thought she wasn't awake, it was one thing less for her to worry about. Ujana was more than awake, she was armed, with a frying pan, and batting her way through every frog as they came hopping towards her. These stupid frogs thought they could mess with her and her mother? Who did they think they were? She swung furiously without a care for what she was hitting, all the while grunting and growling herself out of what had been a sound slumber. Dumb frogs, dumb new house, dumb, dumb, dumb!

"MUH-THER! I HEARD YOU SCREAM AND I FOUND FROGS!" She bellowed, kicking her mother's bedroom door open. She paused, briefly assessing the situation her mother was in, and flailed the frying pan about. Some of the frogs slipped easily away from her swing, while others seemed to think it was a game and were met with a bitter smash to the face. Soon, a path was clear for Ujana to pass through and the youngling greeted her mother with a smirk. "See that? I'm good at this!"

Pahana stared at her daughter as she made her approach, the sheer brutality of her swings striking more fear into her heart than the frogs had done. Those poor frogs, she honestly felt bad for them, even if they'd invaded her home. They didn't deserve to be smashed about like that...

"Good job, Uja, sweetie." She heaved, taking Ujana by the shoulder. "But... Could you put the frying pan down? Please? ... You're being too rough."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 29, 2015 12:48 am

Ujana's eyes bore into what she thought was the empty space in the back of her mother's head and narrowed. Too rough? That's what she always said! Couldn't her mother at least be a little appreciative of the effort that she had put into every swing? Maybe show some support for how she got rid of most of the frogs she hit? Her nostrils flared in displeasure and her grip tightened on the handle of the pan.

"What if I don't want to put it down, mom?" She seethed, flailing it towards another frog. "There are still lots of frogs! I wanna get rid of them all so we can go back to bed! I can't do that without the pan!"

Pahana's lips puckered and frowned. Why was Ujana so difficult to reason with? Even when woken from a dream in the early hours of the morning, her daughter was still as unreasonable and unabashed as surly old man. She let out a sigh and grasped, firmly onto the pan.

"Ujana, please, it's too early for this." She said, giving the pan a tug. "Let's gather these frogs up nicely and put them back outside, then we can go to bed, okay?"

Ujana tugged harshly on the handle of the pan, jerking it from her mother's grasp. There was no way, from Jauhar to Tale, that she was ever going to be nice to a bunch of stupid frogs, or give up her weapon for that matter! Her mother was just too tired to see that! She folded her arms and turned her face away from Pahana.

"Daddy would say the same dumb thing!" She snapped, turning her nose in the air. "It's too early, don't play on the trees, just sit still so I can make you listen to boring old healer's talk, blah, blah, blaaaaah!"

Her eyes squinted shut. Daddy was so weak, boring, old fashioned, and... Stupid! He was as stupid as those frogs! THOSE STUPID FROGS! She threw the frying pan forward for another blow and watched, horrified, as it flew across the room and into the wall, before turning slowly to Pahana again.

"... I want to go home." She muttered, her fist clenched tight. "I want to go home!"

Pahana watched the series of emotions Ujana expressed as if she were in a dream. Where did this outburst about her father come from? Was this something she'd bottled up? The rogue's head gave an unsettled tilt before leaning forward to envelop Ujana in a hug. Her poor baby was so angry, she could feel it in every inch of her skin as she held onto her... Why hadn't she correlated her outbursts to her feelings about her father before?

"We are home, honey, we are home." She cooed, moving her hands slowly over Ujana's hair. "You and I are here together, just like Padma and Uquin are together. I'm sure they miss you just as much as I miss them, it's okay, it's okay."

Ujana allowed herself to be tugged into a hug and nestled her face into the crook of her mother's neck. However, Pahana's words weren't very much in terms of offering comfort, and Ujana's face only twisted further into tears. This wasn't home! She wanted to go back to Yera! She didn't care if Padma or daddy were there or not! ... Well, maybe she did, okay, yeah, she did care, but right now that didn't matter! Why was her family so torn up anyway? She took a breath in and let it out harshly.

"But why are they together and not with us?" She sobbed, gripping onto the sleeves of Pahana's nightgown. "We were happy in Yera, right? I don't get it! Why did daddy want to take Padma with him? What did we do wrong, mama?"

"Nothing, sweetheart, nothing!" Pahana replied, clutching Ujana close to her chest. She had no idea that all of this sadness had been bottled up inside of her daughter for so long! Was she a bad mother for not noticing this? Was she supposed to have asked Ujana how she felt about the move? Her eyes welled up with tears. Maybe she should have, but it was too late for that now. Her baby was crying and needed to be listened to in the present, it wouldn't do either of them any good if Pahana stayed stuck in the past.

She stood, lifting Ujana up as she did so, and crawled into her bed again with Ujana curled up next to her.

"Baby girl... Sometimes..." She began, glancing over to the heap of frogs in the corner. "Sometimes people stop loving each other and stay friends, then they... Go their separate ways, but they never stop loving the babies they had together. Your daddy and your sister still love you, they're just far away right now. That doesn't mean they'll never want to see you again, I promise you that."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 29, 2015 1:35 am

Ujana hiccuped and wriggled under the covers. So, these things just happened to people? Well, why did they have to happen to them? Why did she have to be one of the people who had a daddy that lived far away? Why did her mother have to be a single mother? Why couldn't they be like everyone else in the world? She pressed herself further into her mother's chest.

"But I still don't... I don't..." She sniffled. "I don't want to stay far away from them! Why can't they just come here and stay with us? What's wrong with our house?"

A loud croak, followed by a series of smaller croaks from about the room, was the answer to Ujana's question. Right, they had an invasion of stupid frogs, how could she forget? Who would want to live in a house with tons of frogs in it? She wiggled herself up into an upright position and groaned.

"Go away, you dumb frogs! No one wants you hopping around here!" She cried, just as one made a leap up into her lap. "... Mooooom, it's looking at me funny! Make it stop!"

Pahana sighed and refrained from laughing as the issue of the frogs came back into play. She sat up, turned her attention to the frog in her daughter's lap, and made her best mean face. The frog only croaked in response to this and hopped off to join it's friends again, leaving Pahana to focus on the bleary eyed youngling seated next to her. What was she going to do? Her baby was so upset, she was tired, and all these frogs were making things worse... She took a breath in and hopped off the bed again.

"Come on, let's get these frogs outta here." She said, shuffling her way about the room. "If you get the door, I can try a dance that might just do the trick."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 29, 2015 1:50 am

Ujana glared at the frog as it hopped from her lap and gave her mother a funny look. A dance? Had Pahana lost her mind? How would a dance get frogs out of their house? The youngling looked about the room silently for a moment, as if pondering her options, and slowly rose from the bed.

"Okaaay, but if it doesn't work, I'll go get another pan." She said, nudging her way past her mother and over to the front door. There, she waited patiently with it open and watched, eyebrows furrowed, as her mother tapped her feet about. There was no way this could work, she wasn't doing anything but looking silly!

"Mooom! Are you sure it's gonna work?" She called.

Though she wouldn't admit it, Pahana had absolutely no idea what she was doing. She was merely working on a hunch. Frogs liked to hop, she liked to skip and jump. Maybe they'd follow her if she did a certain kind of dance with moves they would find interesting? At first the frogs seemed perplexed with the strange pink woman dancing around in the hallway, but gradually they began to hop after her, and before Pahana knew it, she had an entourage of Spitorogs following her out the front door. She led them a little further down the path, hoping it would keep them a good distance away, and hurried back to her daughter who stood stunned at the front door.

"Come on, let's get some sleep." She laughed, leading the youngling back down the hallway. "And we'll talk more about seeing your dad and Padma in the morning, okay?"
