At six forty-three, Chance was still in his room, on his bed, reading one of the few history book that he'd brought with him to the island. He'd just gotten to a particularly thrilling description of some of the kings of England; but when his watch beeped at six forty-five, he set the book down, swung his legs over the side of his bed, and got to his feet.

Dressed in a pair of comfortable pants and a baggy shirt, a pair of flats on his feet, Chance ambled out of his room and down the hall to the door at the end that would take him to the stairwell. Up the stairs and down another hallway, until he found the room number that he had been given, and then Chance knocked, rocking back on his heels.

"Hey, Peyton, it's Chance."

Peyton had spent the last half an hour making sure she had everything they were going to need for their little cooking adventure. Ingredients were laid out on the counter, as well as a large mixing bowl, whisks, a wooden spoon, a hand mixer, and a large baking pan. She was, among other things, organized and neat. The entire apartment, in fact, was neat and tidy while maintaining a comfortable feel.

When the knock came she put down the bag of chocolate chips she'd been idly picking at, and headed over to open the door. "Hey," she grinned up at him, stepping aside to let him in.

The girl seemed to have taken a page from a similar book, dressing comfortably and casually. A loose fitting black tanktop with the word 'JERK' in bold white stretched across the chest, and hadn't bothered with shoes, but she did have on a pair of her favorite galaxy leggings. Finger and toe nails were an emerald jade color, and she'd pulled her hair back into a messy bundle at the back of her head with a large clip.

"Come in, help yourself to a soda from the fridge if you want, or a bottle of water." She blinked at him, taking in his outfit, then looked up again. "I like your pants." It was said with an odd little smile.

Galaxy print leggings were certainly something that Chance appreciated - and, in fact, owned (his own pair was folded neatly in one of his dresser drawers, down in his room) - so he gave them an approving nod as Peyton opened the door.

"I like the leggings," he said airily, and smiled. "Hey, Peyton, thanks for having me over."

He hadn't brought anything, like a rude houseguest, but Chance stepped inside anyway, hands in the pockets of his sweats. Politely, he kicked off his shoes by the door, just in case she had a thing about shoes on in the apartment, and then peered around the place curiously.

"Thanks," he answered, flashing her a grin. "And I'd love a soda, if you have one."

"Thanks! They're great, right?" A little half turn accompanied by a grin. "I've got a couple pairs, and some thigh highs too." All in varying shades. "Galaxy print is really pretty." She was rambling, and upon realizing it reigned that s**t in quick with a soft little cough before going for the refrigerator for a can of Dr. Pepper.

"And you're welcome," she'd add, straightening and offering the can to him.

"So intermediate now, huh?" Small fingers curved along the edge of the mixing bowl, and she tugged it closer as she took up a place at the counter. "How'd the mission go?"

Missions, she new, could be simple things that embolden a bare minimum of danger, or incredibly traumatic. Her own experiences tended to lean towards the latter. "Not too bad I hope?" He didn't traumatized, but she suspected it'd be hard to tell with him.

"Have you made brownies from scratch before?"

"I have a pair similar to those," Chance said with a smile, nodding at Peyton's leggings. "Except mine are in the blue and green shade, rather than the pink and orange - though the pink and orange goes nicely with your hair," he added, eyes twinkling.

He accepted the soda with a nod of thanks and popped the tab open, following Peyton back to the little kitchenette area.

"It went as best as can be accepted, I think," Chance said with a laugh. "It was admittedly a little frustrating at times; I had to relieve some s**t I didn't particularly care to relive, and there was some weird, psychic future ******** that was relatively confusing, but at least we made it through in one piece."

He lifted his can, as though to toast her in honor of completing his mission, and then took a sip.

"Once or twice," came the casual answer. "But it's been a while."

The smaller Sun paused while reaching for one of the baking pans, watching him as he recounted the trails of his promotion. ********, they'd all been through it a time or two in the past, and she had no reason to believe they couldn't except to endure it again in the future. "At least that," she'd agree, flashing him a sympathetic, knowing smile. Been there, done that, got the nightmares. Still had the nightmares, in fact. They plagued her most nights, made sleeping by herself difficult.

She dipped her head to that little toast, grinning, before dropping her attention back to the spread of supplies and ingredients she had laid out across her counter.

"It's easy, so I doubt we'll have any problems." Not to mention, she had just made a batch only a couple of weeks prior. "Do you wanna preheat the oven?" A dip of her chin towards the little knobs on the face of the stove. "And we can grease the pans." Then it was all a matter of mixing everything together.

"We'll make a double, then you can take a bunch with you." She moved the pans closer, setting them out and ready to be greased, organized and bordering on methodical. Peyton took cooking seriously, it was the one thing she felt she truly did right when it came to the care of her sister and father.

She was quiet for a handful of seconds, lost in thought, before turning a curious smile up to the other Sun as she reached for the container of crisco and a paper towel. "So other than books, what else do you like to do?"

"I like easy," said Chance airily, and grinned at Peyton. "It makes things simpler, less complicated, obviously, and I am all about the simple joys of life."

Or rather, just the simple things in general. He stepped around her to the stove and crouched down, fiddling with the knobs until he thought he had it at the right temperature. "350?" Chance asked, tossing a look at the other over his shoulder as he straightened. "I think I remember like, all recipes are supposed to be 350 degrees or something, it seems to be the only temperature anything is cooked at anymore."

He leaned back against the counter and folded his arms across his chest, crossing one ankle over the other as he watched Peyton set things out.

"That'd be great," Chance said sincerely. "I think if I'm nice, I might share a bit with some other people - or maybe I can just be greedy and keep them all to myself," he continued, eyes alight with mischief.

A thoughtful hum escaped him. "I like to stargaze," he said mildly. "And I like to observe people, as some on Twitter have pointed out," Chance added dryly. "And while shopping isn't my favorite thing on the planet, I do like finding comfortable clothes."

"There's something to be said for simplicity, that's for sure." Simple had a nice ring to it. There were so many complications in life, between her professional and personal duties, Peyton was ready for a little simplicity.

She gave a thoughtful hum to his comment on the temperature for the oven, gaze drifting down to the knob he'd just turned before thin shoulders came up in a light shrug. "Sure seems that way, at least for baking in any case." Something to do with the temperature needed to make baked goods rise? Peyton wasn't sure, but Chance wasn't wrong about most recipes needing 350 degrees.

A little grin pulled at glossed lips, and she caught the mischievous light in his eyes at the idea of hoarding all the brownies for himself. "Whatever you wanna do."

While he listed some of his hobbies Peyton got to work greasing the pans they were going to be using. "I like stars. It's a newer sort of hobby, if you could even call it that, but the view from here on the island is absolutely beautiful." She glanced up at him. "I'm sure you've been up to the roof?" If he was a star gazer she bet he had. "Mimsy likes to let everyone know when celestial events are happening, like meteor showers." That had no doubt contributed to Peyton's budding love of star gazing.

"And you're in the right place for people watching. The folks on this island are nuts." Herself included, of course.

Chance was a huge fan of simple. If it was simple, it was much easier to bear, much easier to get the hang of. He didn't want to be in the thick of the drama and the messes, he liked when things just sort of flowed in a pleasant sort of way.

He grinned at Peyton, Chance watching her working. "So I've noticed," he said, in terms of the view on the island. "It's much better here than out where I used to live, so I've definitely taking advantage of that fact. And while I haven't been on the roof yet, I'd like to; most of my stargazing takes place on the fields, with my telescope."

His eyes brightened at the mention of Mimsy. "Dr. Morris is an endlessly fascinating woman," said Chance, clearly highly respectful of her. "I've talked with her a few times about things, and she's extremely intelligent and well-versed in the cosmos, which is much appreciated."

Laughter escaped him as Chance moved towards her, peering down to see if there was anything he could do to help.

"I've noticed that too," he said. "Who's the most nuts, do you think?"

She paused half way through greasing up the second pan so she could look up at him, brows raised. "You haven't been up there yet?" How was that even possible? It had, at least in her opinion, one of the best views on the island. Peyton had been up there not too long ago in fact, the night she'd met Lukas. "We need to change that." It was said with a definitive note that was hard to argue against.

"Mimsy's great." A grin, and she set the pans down, side stepping to toss the paper towel in the garbage bin at the end of the counter. The Sun's opinion of the good doctor might not have been as high as it was if Peyton knew it had been Mimsy that had killed her nearly two years back, on the cruise.

Chance was moving closer, and Peyton glanced up at him and smiled, handing over a couple of eggs. "Hold these please." When her hands were free she'd measure out the flour, the cocoa powder, the backing soda. All the fry ingredients they needed poured into the big mixing bowl then tossed together.

"Uh, that's a hard list to narrow down. Rep's pretty insane though." Glossed lips pressed together in a thoughtful line, gaze sliding up from the mixing bowl as she considered the rest of the island.

"Not yet," said Chance with a little laugh. "Admittedly, I actually wasn't entirely certain we were allowed up there - but now that I know that people go up there anyway, I think I'll be making a few more nighttime trips myself to see this supposed view."

He could have gone on about Mimsy being great for probably a few more minutes at the very least, but it most likely would have bored Peyton, so Chance didn't comment on it too much. He reached out and accepted the eggs, holding them carefully in his hands.

Another laugh escaped him. "I'll admit, he's a little...volatile," said Chance, sounding amused. "I don't mind him so much, actually, but I haven't ever been on the tail end of his apparent wrath, so I consider myself fortunate. I have seen what happens on Twitter, though, that place is like a cesspool of drama and s**t."

"You should, for really. It's gorgeous up there, and not just for the stars. You can see so much of the island." It really was a beautiful place, on the surface. "If you ever need a viewing buddy, can always knock on my door." She was up at weird hours anyways, her sleeping patterns erratic at best.

An amused, derisive snort followed Chance's opinion of Rep. "You're lucky you haven't been on the receiving end of his temper." She made a face as she continued mixing the dry ingredients until they were an even shade all the way through, then made a little hollow in the center. "I think he's the reason the Wards were put in place." The man was a loose cannon, dangerous and unpredictable. He didn't need some outside supernatural force effecting him, he just was.

"Twitter is full of craziness and drama," she agreed, laughing as she slid the bowl towards him. "But it can be pretty entertaining in it's own right. Fun to watch when there ain't s**t else to do."

"Go ahead and crack the eggs into that dip in the mix." While he did that, She would measure out the water and oil they needed.

"I always find it much more pleasing to stargaze with other people," said Chance with a smile. "Last time it was with Otto, and before that it was with Claude."

He realized, a little belatedly, that it was only half true; technically the last person he'd stargazed with was Ripley, but his mind was already working to shift his thoughts away from him and Finn, so Chance just gave Peyton a pleasant smile and said, "So next time I go, I might swing by - I will say that I don't really sleep, so usually my stargazing is like three in the morning."

She had a point; he had yet to actually be on the receiving end of Rep's temper, and Chance gave a little laugh. "Well, he's definitely one of the more vibrant personalities on the island," he said cheerfully. "I think mostly I've just been staying away from Twitter, it's a mess of everything, and the last time I spoke up, it didn't go too well."

He obediently tapped the eggs on the side of the bowl, one by one, and let the mixture shift together, Chance tossing the eggshells into the trash.

"Well, lucky me, I don't sleep great so I'm up at all hours anyways." Nightmares made it impossible to keep anything remotely similar to normal sleep habits. She had pills from America, they helped, and on the nights Astrid chose to bunk over it was certainly much easier falling back to sleep if night terrors happened to wake her, but Peyton did not get as much sleep as she should have been.

Chance's use of verbage for Rep had the smaller Sun snorting in amusement. "He's certainly something, alright." Vibrant would not have been the word she used, but from an outside point of view she supposed it might work.

"You're right though, Twitter is a mess. So many different personalities on the island, and all of us speaking out mind in one place. There's bound to be conflict and drama." She waited for the eggs to join the mix, then busted the yolks and began stirring all the ingredients together. "The direct messaging is handy though." There were long stretches of time where she didn't chance the main feed, but she liked the dms, especially the group dms.

When everything was mixed evenly The dainty Sun touched the spoon with a finger, catching a bit of brownie batter on her pinky before bringing it up to her lips. "Mmm. Sometimes it's really hard resisting the temptation to just eat the batter."

"Oh, good," said Chance with a smile. "Someone else to add to my list of people who are up at the same ridiculous hours I am. I have to admit, it's growing a lot larger than I thought it would be, people sure seem to keep some strange hours here."

He rubbed his hands together and watched her work with interest, mixing the batter until the ingredients had all melted together cohesively. "I think also people forget that it's, well, Twitter," said Chance, a little dryly. "I mean, to be honest, this is the most I've dealt with technology at all, so I have to admit, I don't particularly see the appeal of a lot of social media stuff. Still," he added, with a little shrug. "I suppose the direct messaging is interesting, though I don't get that many messages."

Not waiting for an invitation, Chance dipped his own finger into the batter, licking it off with a smile.

"Delicious," he said. "Though not quite as good as cookie dough batter, that's my favorite."
