She chose a night she could get away with sneaking out. Her brother was spending the night at a friend’s house, and her parents had tucked themselves into bed early, after a long day of being sick.
She’d snuck out quietly, making sure she could get back in, and made her way to a place in the park where she could see the sky and the stars. It was only the brightest ones that she could see, but...well, they were still stars. They gave her something to focus on. To concentrate on.
She pulled her senshi phone out, settled herself into a comfortable sitting position on the ground, and concentrated. She thought about the stars and the one in particular she represented, the star she’d tried to research once. The binary system and what it might look like. And she pushed the button she needed to.
It didn’t happen right away but Subra knew when it had.
And the world she opened her eyes to was...amazing.
Chibi Sailor Subra stared at the expanses of forest in front of her, making a giddy noise before tromping through the trees. And immediately finding it not all that easy. There was a lot of undergrowth, the sort that made travel hard, and she made frustrated noises as she tromped through it. She wanted to explore! To see what her homeworld was like! To see where her soul, her special something, came from!
It was amazing, though, even with the undergrowth issue.
The trees were huge, and towering. Their leaves blocked out the sky save for a few patches here and there. They reminded her a bit of the redwoods she’d seen the one time she’d visited California. Except...not the same. Not at all. These were perhaps bigger, and probably older. As she continued on, however, something ate at her. Something felt…
Off.
Wrong.
She couldn’t put her finger on it until she finally stopped for a proper break and sat down at the foot of a tree. It took a few minutes, her eyes closed as she just breathed in the clean, clear air.
She couldn’t hear anything.
Well, that wasn’t true. She could hear the wind, and the rustle of leaves and branches. The groaning of dead trees settling into the dirt. But she heard no animals. No insects. Nothing like that at all. And...that wasn’t right. That. Wasn’t. Natural. The girl squeaked, and Subra was on her feet again, looking around. That...that didn’t seem right at all! What...what was wrong?!
She continued on again, trying to find something. A bug, a bird, anything. She found nothing. Finally, the quiet was something she just couldn’t handle anymore. The little girl dug her phone out again, closing her eyes and holding it close, concentrating on home. She wanted home, she wanted HOME! And she pushed the button needed.
Once she’d gotten herself safely home and tucked into her bed, Bailey again instead of Subra, she thought about it.
She wasn’t going alone, next time.
And she was going to find another senshi, one who’d been to their homeworld, and ask what was wrong.
Why was her world so alive, but so dead at the same time?
