Otto lay sprawled on the couch at an odd angle. His music was playing on the stereo; hard rock as per the norm. His eyes glazed over, not much going on upstairs. He focused on either the lyrics, or the instruments, but never on the white noise in his head. He was blissfully out of it.

Several quiet days had gone by. It was freeing, but it wasn't enough to completely deter her thoughts. She thought things had been getting better, when she realized she'd gone an entire day without feeling that aching pain in her heart. But as soon as she thought that, the pain registered, and she cursed herself for playing an emotional version of 'the game' with herself, when she knew she would always lose. It was that day that she decided to make up for something she'd done. It felt healthy and - right, somehow, to reach out this way. Her heart throbbed with pain and fear that Cami and him were up in the room together, laughing and enjoying their life without her, so she'd been surreptitious about it. She'd waited until she knew Cami wasn't at home, before knocking on the door. Her hands were behind her back, holding a brown paper bag. She could have opened the door herself. She still had the key. But she knew that would never be an option again. So she knocked. And waited. In front of a room that had once been home, but now felt stranger than ever.

Otto slowly came to from his zoning out. He left the couch with a groan, padding to the door lazily. He did not expect Maebe there, her and her beautiful face and figure. A stranger would knock and wait. A friend would walk in. Right?
Yet there she was, and his face showed surprise. "Oh.. Hey, Maebe." He murmured, blue eyes fixated on hers. "Nice to see ya..." Well that was a dumb thing to say, he thought. He grimaced at his plain words and scratched his head.
"Um.. what's up?"
Did he let her in? No, that'd be misleading. He waited.

She figured it out in a single second, when he fixated his eyes on hers. That was what she'd fallen in love with, first. The way they both managed to focus, with such intensity, on eyes. It felt like a tiny revelation, and she breathed out a vaguely interested, huh. Then she sobered up, and her familiar smirk appeared. "I know." She informed him, because it was always nice to see her. Her smirk turned into a knowing grin, and then it waned when he stood there awkwardly in the doorway, and did not invite her in. "What's up is that I came to see you and you're not going to invite me in. So, apparently you're the rudest man I've ever dated. And that's like, saying a lot, sweetheart." Her face turned expectant, and a little impatient.

Otto flinched, and like a shamed puppy, knelt his head and stepped aside. "Sorry.. c'mon in." He murmured, rubbing his head and shuffling inside the room.

She walked in and her footsteps laid claim as they always did, owning the room simply by being in it. She reached out and brushed her hand once through his hair, accepting his forgiveness with the touch. Her other hand was still behind her back, slyly moving the contents she held just out of his line of sight as she moved. "Is Cami here?" She flippantly asked, as if she didn't already know the answer.

He stared into her eyes as she touched his hair, surprised by the gentle contact. He'd been fairly certain she still thought him a wretched backstabber and betrayer. Yet here they were. He tried not to let himself feel good about it. "No. She ain't." He answered with a shake of his head. "Sorry. Dunno when she'll be back."

"Oh, that's okay. She gets enough from me." Maebe's voice was a little too light when she said it, a little too upbeat. She stopped, and turned around to look at him. "Today it's your turn." She gave him a sweet smile, and then it turned into a knowing smirk. "But first you have to close your eyes. And trust me."

"My turn?" He parroted, his gaze narrowing slightly as she turned to him. At her request, he gave a shrug. He trusted her easily. At least at that moment. His eyes closed without hesitation, his face somber as always. He waited.

In the darkness, he might have heard a rustle. She took both of his hands with one of hers, and lifted them until their palms were held out. Then she placed something of medium heaviness onto them, and set the bag they were in down on the floor. Before she allowed him to open his eyes, she got up on her toes to lean in without disturbing the prize left on his hands, and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. "Okay, loser." She muttered. "You can open them now." Several thin, long boxes were in his hands, and none of them were covered. They were just small cartons of his favorite chocolate snacks - the same ones that she and Cami had raided far too many times in the past. "I figured it was about time." Men were so ridiculous about their food. She'd taken enough from him in their short - too short - time together. She felt like it was time to give it back.

Otto's curiosity began to flicker strong, his fingers wiggle under the minimal weight in his hands. He wanted to know what she'd brought for him, right now. He remained patient though. He'd know soon enough. His eyelids flickered when he felt the soft kiss on his cheek; he didn't open them of course, but he almost had. She was being really nice. Really nice. Of course she was. She was a nice person, despite the anger, and the sass. His eyes finally opened, setting his gaze down to his gift. Chocolate. All his favourites. His heart beat rose, not only because he really did love the stuff so much. But because Maebe had thought enough of him to give them. He desperately wanted to be a brat, and proclaim it was about time he got his stolen sweets back. Desperately. But he just wasn't feeling much like a brat. "Thank you." He murmured gratefully. His eyes flicked from his chocolates back up to Maebe. He wanted to ask why. He always did. Why had she given him a gift after all this? He ought to give her something, right? He'd damaged this home more than anything. But maybe it wasn't about paid dues. Maybe it was just a simple gesture, and he was being simply suspicious. Finally, his sassier side woke up. "Maybe I should keep'em under lock and key."

"You should." She rebounded back at him instantly, their repertoire never missing a beat as usual. "You still let Cami in here, and you know how she likes to spoil me. My guess I'll be eating the Snickers by next week." She patted the packages and then turned away from him, her hands clasped in front of her as she took a look around. Her expression was muted, unreadable. She saw the room just as it had been not so long ago, but for her, everything had changed. She felt no comfort when she looked at that couch. That couch. Memories with both Cami and Otto flickered dangerously through her mind as she looked at it, for just a moment too long. Her eyes fell to the bedroom doorway. Closed, but it was as if she could see right through it. Or at least, what it used to be. "Did I interrupt you at anything important? I didn't hear the drums, so I assumed not." bittiface *ZOMBIE ROSE FROM THE DEAD LOVE MEEE*

"Oh.." He began plans to hide some sweets in his bag, and maybe other places they wouldn't look for. He moved and rested the boxes of chocolates on the counter top. When he looked to Maebe she'd taken her eyes from the couch to the bedroom door. Was she reminiscing? "No. I was just listening to music." He drawled comfortably, giving a small shrug. "Nothin' important."

"Good." She reached out and touched a table with one finger, drawing it across the edge before pulling it away. "Have you been thinking about what we talked about? Like, made any progress?" Her moves had been slight, but she'd always stayed in movement, and suddenly she was at the farther edge of the couch, twisting to fall against it in a swirl of skirts and air. She patted the seat next to her. "Because I've been worried that you haven't. And the more I'm here, the more that worry's starting to feel founded." She gave him a regretful smile. "You look comfortable, Otto. Sedated. Settled. If I'm the only one who worries about that for you, then you need better people in your life."

What they talked about... Otto's mind went quiet. Well, quieter. She was right, he did feel sedated. He liked that. No guilt, no worries, no endless nights of not knowing who he was. Sedated was a welcome change. He didn't feel alive, but he also didn't hurt. He liked being numb. He wanted to stay this way forever. He remained near the counter, watching Maebe offer a seat. Almost shy, or just hiding, he kept close to it and fiddled with the edge of the counter top as if it needed his attention. "I dunno.." He said to her query. "This is fine." She'd hate to hear that, and he knew this. He swallowed, his eyes lidded in thought. What was it she'd asked of him again? He couldn't really remember in full. It was a dull feeling somewhere behind a wall. "I have nice people in my life. I dunno what else to do about it." That made him feel stupid, and Otto despised feeling stupid. "Don't know what I was supposed to do in the first place. I mean.... I don't even know what's wrong." What specifically, anyway. Numb was the only answer now. Just to be comfortable in sweet, plain nothingness. A body with a soul kept under a stone grave covering. That was much better than trying to solve a problem with no answer.
