Darren had raided the library for as many advanced math books as he was allowed to cart out of there, they were thrown in his backpack, which was swung over his shoulder as he made his way back toward the cafeteria. It was a halfway decent day out - not too chilly but not too sunny either. He just hoped that he would be able to do well with finals soon to round the corner.

He made a face at that.

At least he'd gotten into DCU - that was all he was looking forward to. A Reason to be out of the house and not having to deal with his step-mother.

He almost didn't see the freshman until he tripped over her, cussing as he tumbled over her bodily and almost crushed her under his legs.

He lay there for a minute, face buried in the dirt before he lifted his head.

"You okay?"

Ivy was trying to read To Kill A Mockingbird, but when Darren tripped over her, she gave an undignified squeak and kind of collapsed into a pile of limbs that ended up awkwardly intertwined with the boy's own. Her pen was still in grasp, at least! That was the important part of the issue. "...I'm fine. Are you okay? That was a nasty fall you took." Ivy tried to push herself back up to sitting without hurting Darren, smiling with vague embarassment. "I'm really sorry! I didn't know anyone was going to be walking right here, or I would have moved..."

"I've had worse," Darren admitted wryly as he slowly untangled himself from the freshman female and dusted himself off. "My girlfriend gave me a concussion once - it's a very long story." He laughed a bit and offered his hand to help her up.

"It's perfectly alright, I didn't see you there or I would have walked around you - I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going to be honest. I hope I didn't hurt any of your stuff. Or you." He bowed his head a little at that.

"I'm Darren Waughner by the way, who is it that I have the pleasure of making such an awkward acquaintance?"

Ivy had to giggle at the thought of the concussion, clasping Darren's hand as she pushed herself to her feet. "...How did your girlfriend give you a concussion...? That sounds really dangerous." Her eyes sparkled wit polite curiosity, and she dusted herself off, wiping dirt off her skirt.

"Ivy Sutors. Are you a senior? You look pretty smart." It may have been a bit of a suckup move, but at the same time; seniors were really smart: they had all that college studying to do! She could barely pass her own basic classes, so Ivy couldn't even imagine doing all that work. Maybe it got easier as you got older? It had to, right?

"I took a soccer ball to the head - like I said, it's a very long story," Darren said with a slight chuckle. "And awkward, and somewhat embarrassing."

"Yeah, I'm a senior - and thanks? I guess?" He scratched the back of his head, not sure where that had come from. His hair was a dead give away he was not the "smart" type per say - what with the green streaks dyed into it (since they refused to wash out most of the time.)

"Why do you ask?"

"If you don't want to talk about it, I understand," she smiled, "it sounds like the sort of thing you'd want to forget." Ivy held her hand out, tipping her head in a mock-bow. "...I just asked because you're tall, and you were studying, right? All the seniors I've seen this week are all studying, so...is it really hard, to study that much? I couldn't do it."

The girl kept to brushing perceived dirt off her uniform, hands haphazardly fiddling to keep themselves busy.

"Naw, I wouldn't want to forget it - it's just not a really great story and to be fair it makes me sound like a total creeper when I put it into context so..." He waved a hand at that. "But thank you for being understanding - if you really want to hear it I can and will tell it... Just not now cause it's almost time for the next class."

He'd taken a moment to peak at his watch and it was almost time for things to swap over to the next period so he wasn't going to want to keep her overly long in case she had to make it across campus.

He just had to make it to band.

"It's not... too bad. It's just time consuming more than anything else. That's why we're doing it all the time. It's really a pain in the a**." He rubbed the back of his head. "What about you, you settling into the grind okay?"

"...I think I'm doing okay," she laughed nervously, hands unconsciously twining and twisting. "Walking across campus is a little new to me, but there's a lot of places to sit, and -" then Ivy pulled her phone out, checked it, and gasped in dismay. "Oh my gosh, I forgot about next period, I'm so sorry...!" She made shooing motions at Darren, distressedly attempting to imply he ought to go. "I need to go! Sorry to bother you, really!"

Then she was gone into the building as fast as could be, moving surprisingly quickly for such a tired-looking girl; only leaving behind her copy of a book - and gosh, the bell really was about to ring soon, wasn't it? She'd come back for it in ten minutes or so, but for the time being...there were more important matters.

Darren was really in no hurry to get to his next period, so it was pretty easy for him to notice that she'd left her book behind. Being the gentleman that he was, he picked it up off the ground and after taking the time to scribble a hasty note with his phone number on it - and placing it under a rock where the book had been, he tucked the book into his backpack and headed off to his own class.

Hopefully her sudden questions had been just curiosity and not a rabid attempt to get senpai to notice her.

Because he would not... indeed he would not.

It's no big! Yes - I am evil and have not given us another openinig for an rp XP

The note pretty much says he has her book cause she dropped it and to just text him to set up a time/place to pick it up lol
