User ImageSammy glared at her surroundings. She'd made a nest for herself after that fishy thing had dropped her off with whatever that flimsy winged fish thing was. She knew it was a male, but she had been warned this one was off limits. No, not off limits, just not hers. Sammy didn't want him anyways, he seemed off. Sammy shook her head and got up. It was time to go out and do something instead of sitting around in her nest.

Sharp eyes surveyed the area as she stretched her wings. She may not be good at looking for threats, but she could at least make sure no one was around to stare at her, slack jawed while she left. There had been enough of that when she'd been handed off. Just before she'd gone and decided to nest outside of that wretched house. With a shudder, she shook off those thoughts and took flight. Maybe there was another pae out there that was as majestic as she, it was time to go looking for it. Someone had to know what she was, and why pae seemed to stare at her like was was completely crazy.

The battle was won, and since then Shakira had been spending time with the healers recovering from the wounds inflicted by the emperor. At first, Shakira had protested, she had earned these scars. They were not a wound she carried with pride, it was shameful that she had let the emperor get the upper hand on her, but they were a reminder that she still needed to finish off those vile snakes. Eventually, she had been convinced that the scars did nothing good for her appearance, and she was Venus' songbird and she owed much to Venus. Shakira did not need a scar to remind her of the vengeance she needed, she would remember on her own.

After being cooped up with the healers for more time than any harpy could handle, Shakira was out and about on Telrunya, stretching her wings. She paused on a branch, laying out on it beneath the sunshine which lit up golden feathers in a way that made it look like they were glowing. The harpy matriarch began singing, no words, just singing notes that composed a beautiful tune. She was truly a queen in her own right.

Sammy really had no direction in her flight. Really, she'd just been frustrated when she left. The state of her nest likely showed how irritated she had been at the moment. A slight breeze, she was altering her path to drift with the currents of the wind when musical notes caught her ears. She blinked, squinting as she listened a little harder. That was most certainly someone singing.

Confused, her flight halted midair. The girl hovered for a moment trying to figure out who could possibly be singing in such a lovely voice. Even hers wasn't talented. Though it would be if she practiced more. A colorful head flicked from side to side, looking for the source of that noise. Nothing at first. Just a glowing spot off in the distance where the bright thing that gave them light should be. But wait, that wasn't... That's not what the bright thing looked like! It had to be where that song was coming from, there was no other way!

Grinning with her small victory, Sammy took off as fast as she could from a hover. She wanted to see what that shiny thing was! With a start, she realized there was something terribly wrong here. She could see things amazingly well and this... This was just a splotch. Quite a flight, she realized. Oh well, it was shiny, she needed to see the shiny. The earlier mood of contempt for everything was gone. Now just curiosity remained.

After what seemed like forever, the feathered girl finally got close enough to see the source of the glow and the song had been one and the same. A pleasant surprise to be certain. But then, it was another pae with wings very similar to her own. Feathers for days... In a bout of complete shock and uncharacteristic lack of flying ability, Sammy faltered and dropped a few feet. There were other pae like her?

"Hello?" She called, not sure what she should have been doing at that moment in time. It was almost a shame to interrupt the other's song, but she was jealous of that voice anyway. Her own would sound that good if she ever practiced with it. She was sure of it.

Relaxed Shakira was much, much different from the Shakira who had her eyes narrowed on ripping out the throat of a naga in battle. She was more motherly, and having spent a great deal of time in the presence of Venus, more eloquent. "Oh dear." She said, halting her song as she noticed the other harpy falter from the sky. Shakira had a pleasant smile on her face, it always made her happy to see another harpy, her instincts told her this was one of the eggs she had claimed as her own so long ago. While Shakira, did not actively seek out her 'children', she couldn't help but feel the warmth of maternal instincts when she saw one. "Hello child." Shakira couldn't help but sit back and admire the feathers of the most colorful egg.

Sammy had to fight the urge to squeak. Something said that this pae was more like her than she could see. But not only that, but this lady... She was older than Sammy. By how much, she couldn't tell. But it was clear Sammy was probably just a fledgling in comparison. Her head tilted to the side, slowly moving up. Inspecting whoever it was in front of her.

Feathers thoroughly ruffled at the idea of another of her kind, Sammy flew the remaining distance to the tree the other was perched in. "Child?" The word had so many implications. Her brain felt like it was going to explode from the thoughts that were running through it. "Are you.. Are we related?" Her brown eyes narrowed, confusion clear in her features if not posture as well. "Or are you just that much older than me?" Okay, so she was rude, but no one had ever told her otherwise. Whatever his face was had no authority over her and that pathetic female he seemed so keen on wasn't worth listening to.

There was a noticeable ruffle in her feathers after the other harpy made the implication that she was old. Other than the ruffle, which Shakira was quickly grooming out, she looked otherwise undisturbed in her facial expressions. "Not... exactly." Alright, perhaps there was a little tension in Shakira's voice, but it was clear that she was trying to remain smooth and collected. This bright and colorful harpy was not of Shakira's blood, but she felt so maternal about all the eggs that had been brought with her from her homeland. "I knew you as an egg, and it was as if you were an egg from my own body." Her voice was calmer now, "But you are not my blood, if that's what you mean." Shakira knew which eggs were hers, but she didn't know the origins of the other eggs Venus had collected.

"Have you had a good life?" It was her turn to ask a question now, she was clearly inspecting the other harpy as she looked her over. Not necessarily in a judging way, but more so in a concerned, motherly sort of way.

Sammy tilted her head. So this was her supposed mother? "Egg? You mean we don't come from..." She trailed off, having witnessed several children come into the world. It looked like a gruesome way to be alive much less go through. "Eggs... I'm really that different aren't I?" The harsh reality of it hit. She had been proud of herself for being so different from the rest of the pae. Having seen how pae were born, hearing she came from an egg had the exact opposite effect on her.

"Good life? I think so... I have a nice nest." She smiled a bit. Creating it had been a great undertaking she would always enjoy boasting about. "I made it. With my own claws~ And the game is always fresh and a challenge to catch. Lots of it near my nest."

Shakira's head cocked slightly. How was it possible that this one didn't even know where she had come from? All the eggs were supposed to have gone home with a pae, who had raised this one? Shakira asked the female as much. "Someone raised you, right? They didn't tell you that you had hatched from an egg?" If she didn't even know that much... It had been the only way though. If the eggs had stayed with her in Venus' gardens they would never have hatched. It still made Shakira sad to know that the young harpies had grown up knowing nothing of their proud heritage.

At least there were some things that were innate though. It made Shakira proud to know that the harpy had her own nest and caught her own food. "Have you had many mates?" It was not a prying question in Shakira's eyes, it was normal for a harpy to be with many males.

Sammy pondered it for a moment. "A fish woman for a minute. She dropped me on some random male she claimed was her son. The woman he called a mate," she sneered, "had never been worth listening to." With a shrug, that was all of it. The thought of how she'd been born, or hatched, hadn't even really occurred to her. "I never asked any of them. Didn't really have any idea I'd come from an egg till today." She frowned, not liking where that train of thought was going.

"Mates?" Chestnut eyes blinked, "I have had none. Not yet at least." She answered. It wasn't anything she was ashamed of. Okay, maybe a little, if only because the number was so low. It wasn't anything she felt the need to keep private at the very least.

Shakira nodded her head slowly in understanding. Perhaps it made sense to assume you just came about the same way as those around you. The other harpies that had come to the island must have been quite surprised if any of them had gotten around to laying an egg.

Her face saddened when she heard that the colorful harpy had not taken any mates yet. Shakira was quiet as she tried to think about how long ago it was that the eggs had come to the island. They had been in there prime for quite some time now, and not even one? "Oh dear, you really should work on that darling." Shakira responded. It was the kind of thing a mother would say, where she doesn't even realize it sounds rude because its coming from true concern for her child.
