What had started as something simple, a thought, had turned into a strong craving that refused to be ignored. Free from the infirmary for a day, Ezekiel actually had a considerable amount of free time, and lately he'd been having trouble filling it. Not from lack of things to do, but an odd niggling sense that no matter what he was doing, it wasn't what he should be doing. He blamed ridiculously long shifts at all hours of the day.

What he was craving now was something he hoped would be easy to find. Fruit; and apple to be specific. He was fairly confident he'd seen some, along with oranges and bananas, in the cafeteria at breakfast, there were probably some there now.

He'd never actually been back to the kitchen part of the cafeteria itself, he wasn't entirely sure where to look for the fruit when not out in the cafeteria, but at some point he'd find it.

It hadn't been long before Lukas had started pocketing bits and pieces of this and that from cafeteria shifts, to make his own meals. Somewhere along the way, that had turned into something more than that: carefully padding into the cafeteria on soft feet to pillage through whatever wouldn't be too horribly missed and make off with it himself. Mostly, so far, it had been limited to dry and raw foods: bread and fruit and raw vegetables, which were at least better than the mush they served in the cafeteria --

Today, though, he paused in the doorway to blink at Zeke. Grey clothing on grey clothing, only Lukas's face showed in the dark, and he took a moment to lean and watch before he spoke up. "Lost?"

Zeke had found the apples, and he had one in hand when a voice from behind pulled his attention. He turned, regarding the other man levelly as he tossed the apple from one hand to the other, then brought it up to take a bite, speaking around it as the corners of his lips twitched up. "Nope." He definitely was not lost.

His head tilted subtly to one side. "Do I look lost?"

"Moderately." Lukas tipped his head, looking around the kitchen, and then somewhat absently slid into the pantry to make off with an entire loaf of questionably-good breath, tucking it under one arm as he headed off.

"I've never seen you behind the counter before, anyway." He nabbed some jam, as well, and it was immediately obvious that this wasn't Lukas's first time doing his grocery shopping in here.

"You wouldn't. Sunny insists on keeping me in the infirmary." He took another bite of his apple, giving the other man a casual once over as he took a moment to chew. "I don't get put on many other duty rotations." Definitely not someone he recognized, not even in passing. Probably new, or at least newer.

Pale eyes tracked him as he went for the bread and jam. Apparently he wasn't the only one hungry. Zeke simply assumed, for now, that Lukas was intending to make himself a sandwich.

No sandwich; Lukas tucked both under his arm and considered Zeke for another moment, his head cocked to the side, before he turned to go. He was, apparently, perfectly comfortable snatching from the kitchen. Of course, no one had stopped him yet, and from what he'd heard there were cameras everywhere --

"Sounds exciting." Zeke could follow, or he could chill in the kitchen; it was up to him. Either way, Lukas was getting out of there with his spoils. "How'd you end up there?"

Zeke took another large bite of apple as he watched Lukas heading for the door, apparently helping himself to more than just a sandwich. Not that the Mist cared at all. It wasn't as if Zeke didn't have his own stash of accumulated goodies hidden away back in his room.

Apple in hand, there wasn't much reason to stick around, so the taller man fell into step a few paces behind Lukas, catching up casually as they made their way down the hall back towards the exit. "Sounds it, yeah." His tone suggested it wasn't. Sure, things happened, but exciting was not how Zeke would have described it.

"Mists get shuffled around a lot, unless they seem to take to a certain vocation. I picked up on the necessary skills for the infirmary quick, so Sunny likes to keep me around." Much to his chagrin.

Lukas made a soft sound at that, shooting Zeke a look -- his head tipped up just a bit to get a better look at the other man. Three was, briefly, a spark of annoyance in his eyes. He didn't like feeling short, and Zeke made him feel short, damnit. At least he smothered it quickly.

"I'm happy to say I haven't set foot in the place." He shook his head, shuffling his bundles to stick the jam into one pocket, instead. It freed up his hands. "Although maybe I shouldn't be proud of that. Maybe it's a sign I'm not doing enough."

He didn't actually sound worried, or apologetic, though.

"I've only been on the receiving side once, and that was after a giant sandworm decimated out camp in the Sahara. It was a brief stay." Zeke wasn't looking at Lukas, not right that moment. He was finishing his apple, tossing the core in a trash can as they passed it.

"But that being said, maybe." Pale eyes rolled down to him. "You done any spars yet?" Lagertha had harassed him to no end for the first few weeks after she'd woken up. Nagging him relentlessly to get him out on the training fields. At the time it'd been annoying. Now, having gotten a taste of what they were up against, he appreciated her pushing him.

"Got jumped by a girl one of the first few days I was here." It was ambiguous in a way that was almost certainly intentional, came with a sharp flash of that smile: easy and comfortable and confident. The pair of them, together, were probably a dangerous thing.

"Not that much, though. I seem to have been sorted into the desk-jockey division." He shrugged.

"This girl got a name?" He was curious, of course, but if the other man didn't feel like sharing it wasn't as if he could force it out of him. Though it did remind him. "Or you, for that matter?" Introductions had not been made.

"How about a spar?" It was a casual offer, but it came with a turn of his head, the arch of a brow that could have been called a challenge, especially paired with the cocky pull of his lips.

"Lukas Kaufmann." He put his hand out as he said it, but in a distracted, somewhat indifferent way: his eyes dropping to Zeke's mouth for a moment, instead, before he looked away again.

"We could cross weapons, if that's what you're looking for." His tone was shockingly neutral, without even shooting Zeke a look, this time.

Zeke took the offered hand, shaking it as he introduced himself in turn. "Ezekiel Young." His grip lingered, just a bit, before he let the other man's hand go and tucked his own into his pockets. It was possible he'd caught the dip of pale eyes.

"It's not a bad way to pass the time." That cocky smile grew into an all out grin as they reached the doors and he pushed one open to let them both out.

"I've heard that before." He considered the loaf of bread tucked down into the crook of his arm with a thoughtful little frown tugging at his own mouth, and then his eyes raised back to Zeke.

"Where?" And a moment's hesitation. "I should drop this off, first."

"Training field, unless you feel like living dangerously." Zeke laughed, shaking his head. "Though there's always the chance of an infirmary visit if you take your chances outside the wards." The Mist, for one, was in no hurry to land himself in a hospital bed. He knew the assholes that worked there.

A glance down at the bread. "Probably." Considering all their meals were free Zeke wasn't at all sure if Lukas would get much grief if someone happened to notice he was nicking food from the cafeteria, but it was probably better not to find out.
