Prowling softly through the darkened, cold streets of the city, Orcus gave an irritable sigh and flipped her thick, silver braid back over her shoulder. No one would be out in this weather, she thought. It was pointless to patrol. Pointless to practice her magic as well. Certainly with all of this blasted snow and ice, there was more than enough moisture to draw on. But without people to use it against...

Snorting in a most unladylike manner, the petite Dark Mirror paused in the shadows cast by the city library and considered her options. She could power down and go home, but that had the potential to invite trouble. No, she'd stick this one out and go home only once she was sure there was no energy to steal this night. And perhaps her usual route being deserted would prove a blessing in disguise. She'd have time to look for useable mirrors, for instance.

Yes, without ready victims, that would be a worthwhile task. Nodding to herself in satisfaction, Orcus glided through the shadows, every sense reaching out in the hopes of something to stave away boredom.

It was still too cold to be outside. Ubasti’s expression was probably completely frozen in a frown. She was looking down at the city from atop a building bored since no one else dared to be out in this kind of weather. Why she had even bothered to go out herself was a mystery but she hadn’t wanted to stay home and have to spend time with her mother. If there was one thing that the Dark Mirror Court had taught her it was that they were a strong family. Seeing how weak her own family was just irritated her to no end.

And she was already irritated enough as it was. Something caught her senses and Ubasti looked up to search for it. She narrowed her eyes and jumped to the next building in pursuit of the energy signature. She let her own presence known in case it was another senshi from her court. She hadn’t run into one of those in a while now would be nice to catch up or something. Or just have more friends within her court. She’s almost caught up with the figure now when she yelled out to get her attention. It looked like another Dark Mirror.

“Hey!”

Orcus' own thoughts had been so turned inwards that she'd completely missed the aura that signaled another or her kind. At least until the shouted greeting. Turning slowly, she arched a delicate eyebrow and watched as a girl who topped her by nearly a foot came quickly into view.

Of course this stranger was taller than her. Of course. Sighing a little at the unfairness of genetics, Orcus waited patiently enough for the other girl to approach. And once the other was close enough, began to dress her down tartly.

"Learn to announce your presence in a less attention grabbing manner next time, will you? What if someone had been exiting one of these buildings? What if a youma good at camouflaging itself had been around? You'd have just alerted everyone around to your presence. Try tossing a pebble next time or even treading on a bunch of dead leaves or a branch. Those noises are less likely to attract undue attention."

Straightening herself to her full (and wretchedly unimpressive) height of not even five feet, Orcus treated the other senshi to a haughty once over. Just about level with her own status, she thought. Tall, pretty in a dark way. The slightly Egyptian motif of her fuku made Orcus long for the warmth of summer. After a moment, she decided that this stranger was a passable distraction from her own patrol. It wasn't as if the Dark Mirrors were so numerous that she could afford to go about snubbing the ones she did meet.

"Oh well," she said grudgingly. "No harm done, really. But next time might not be so lucky, all right? Now, what's your name?"

Well. Then. Why did Ubasti always run into people who were grumpy? Bad enough Merlinite had been grumpy the other night, though warranted considering everything, now she was meeting one of her own who was in a foul mood. Ubasti looked down at her, literally down because the other girl was so short and quirked one of her brows. Really? That was how you greeted one of your own? It wasn’t the warmest greeting, but wasn’t the worst either. “If you had been paying attention maybe you would have noticed me.” It wasn’t a snarky comment, but then a smile grew on her face.

“I’ll make sure to throw a rock at you next time.” Who in the world threw pebbles at people to announce their presence anyways?! She certainly didn’t see herself shaking up some leaves either. She’d look stupid doing it. It wasn’t her problem if the other girl hadn’t been paying attention to her surroundings as she should have been. Ah well, no use being pissy about it. They were on the same team after all so fighting wouldn’t do them any good. “And in any case, I can take on whatever comes at me.” Ubasti said pointedly.

“Ubasti, you? Are you out patrolling?”

"Yes, yes. Good for you. I'm simply thrilled that you're so confident in your abilities. And I was hunting, not daydreaming for your information."

It was only with the greatest of efforts that Orcus managed to not roll her eyes at the other girl's bravado. And if fairness, she'd had a point. Orcus shouldn't have let herself become so involved in searching out mirrors for traveling. Not that she'd admit that. This... Ubasti would simply have to take it for granted. Well. No point in being completely rude.

"Orcus," she said tersely but with a civil enough nod of her silvery head. "I was. At least until I decided to try sniffing out useful mirrors in the absence of any decent prey. I know some of the others have mirrors squirreled away to use. I wanted to find them. It's easier to plan for contingincies when one knows where all the escapes are, after all."

Ubasti didn’t know what to make of the petite woman. Her expression went from incredulous, to confused to just plain acceptance of what she’d said. She wasn’t here to back talk anyways, she at least, was happy to have found another of her own. At least she’d introduced herself which was a better beginning than before. Ubasti had not heard her name anywhere, though sometimes that didn’t mean anything. She certainly didn’t want to presume the senshi was new to the game. Plus, if she did ask her she could only wonder at what kind of response she’d get if she was wrong.

“Nice to meet you.” Ubasti still threw it in even if the other didn’t feel the same. “That’s a good idea.” Ubasti admitted grudgingly, how come she hadn’t thought about that before? Or right, because she’d been hunting down youmas on her territory and chatting it up with Merlinite. Now she felt like she’d been slacking and that was just not good enough. “Well, two pairs of eyes are better than one.” She wasn’t giving this one a way to dismiss her. She was going to help because she wanted to find the mirrors too. “I’m going to help you.”

Nope, no chance in hell she was going to skip out on this one.

Oh bollocks. The last thing Orcus had been expecting was a declaration of help. Still, the girl made a fair point. It was easier hunting with two sets of eyes. So, as graciously as she was able, she accepted Ubasti's assistance.

"A good point. And goodness knows, anything that helps get the both of us out of this miserable weather sooner while still making us feel useful is a boon."

Tilting her head slightly to examine the taller girl closely, Orcus couldn't help but like the girl's stubborn resolve.

"Very well, Ubasti, I accept. I suppose all we need to do is figure out a decent strategy that makes the best use of our abilities."

It wasn't a terribly welcoming speech, but for Orcus, it was positively friendly. IT would have to do.

“Definitely.” Finally something they could agree on! And moving around with an actual purpose was going to warm them up a bit more. Though she had no idea if they were looking for something specific about the mirrors or just mirrors in general. Ubasti was also not about to admit her knowledge was limited when Orcus obviously seemed much more knowledgeable than her. “How many have you found so far?” she wouldn’t be able to share those ones but she was still curious as to how many the girl had found out there. She was going to have to get on that soon.

“I guess we do.” Ubasti looked the senshi over. “Just curious what are your powers?” She was always going around asking those she met. She wanted to compare her powers to the other girls, maybe she’d have something cool like that girl who had started that fire on the youma that one time. “My powers are aridity.” She offered her own even if the other wouldn’t offer hers. “So do you have a plan? Where do we start?” She was going to let Orcus lead this one and just help wherever she was needed so she didn’t get in her way and learned a bit.

"I told you, I'd just started looking. I haven't found any yet. I just know they have to be somewhere because I've heard mention of hidden mirrors."

She spared a glance for the proffered hand and gave it a puzzled stare. What was the point of such a silly gesture? They'd already managed to introduce themselves without it. What was the point now? Ignoring the hand, she instead seemed to be considering what information Ubasti had given her.

"Aridity. Interesting. Well, I'm the senshi of drowning," she couldn't help the cold edge that creeped into the tiny smile that played about her lips. "As for my plan, I was just going to hunt and investigate any odd spots. I know of at least one mirror in the park since I went through it before I became what I am now. And it was cleverly hidden. So I expect we'll have to look for places that don't look quite right for the area they're in."

Orcus shrugged. As far as she was concerned, this was all an interesting mental exercise designed to let her feel as if she wasn't wasting her time out in the cold.

Wasn’t this one just cranky. Ubasti went on to ignore half of what the girl said, she wasn’t here to throw a hissy fit. However, she did give the other girl a look. If she had just started it meant that she would not be missing out on any she’d previously found. Good. She would be able to use these hidden mirrors to her advantage and when her and Orcus when separate ways she’d know how and where to look for them. Her best bet was vantage points parks but those were obvious, and usually hard to reach places by nightfall.

Drowning though was quite an interesting power to have and probably extremely dangerous. Maybe they would run into something and she would get to see the power in action. “Cool power.” She gave the girl a wicked smile.

“So parks, vantage points, places hard to get to after dark,” Ubasti glanced across the city. “Zoo, aquarium, amusement park. Those would be my guesses.” She turned back to the other senshi. “I think I'm going to go off on my own. Was interesting meeting you though,” Ubasti gave the other girl a grin. "And thanks for the tips!" And then she was off, jumping to the nearest building and out of sight. She was going to start with the zoo.

Watching the other girl wave and disappear into the night, Orcus snorted softly, amused. Well, now that she was alone again, she glanced up at the sky and decided to get back to what she'd been doing when she'd run into Ubasti.
