Zarita wandered the world, lost in all sense of the world. The world seemed a strange, strange place to her. How had it come to this end? How had she ever been so foolish? Why hadn't she trusted him?
He? Who was he? She stumbled on heavy legs. What had she been thinking about and why was she so cold?
He'd warned her. What had he warned her about? She stopped so quickly that she almost fell. Warned her about what?
About who?
A skull floated in front of her eyes with a might tongue like a snake. She screamed, her heart beating out of her chest as the skull lunged for her.

Vestiarian stood poised in the stream, claw held aloft waiting. He watched for the shimmering glint of silver or rainbow. The fish moved beneath the water, feeding on the green growth underneath the water. He waited, holding his breath. His claw shot down under the water.
Hi talons closed around the slippery fish and he slung it onto the bank flopping. With one quick pierce of his beak, the fish stopped moving. Lifting it back up, he dunked the fish in the water to clean the sand from it. Carefully, he put it in his pack and then poised to catch another fish.
It was then that he heard the hear splitting scream. He jumped and ran toward the sound, before he realized what he was doing. In the middle of a path there stood a mare screaming at.... nothing?
"It's okay, it's okay." He tried to soothe her.

His long tongue was coming at her hissing, he was screaming her name over and over again. Zarita! ZARITA! He had been right, Avada Kedavra was coming for her. She stumbled backwards screaming until she thought she'd black out. Her body trembled as his little servant slithered by her with snakes in her hair.
Kill her. She's no use to us now!
Then there was fangs in her neck and a hot burning pain. They were poisoning her, she was burning up. He whole body ached and she realized that she was fevered. Fever. This wasn't real. It wasn't real. It wasn't real, please let it not be real. A voice cut through her screams and opened her eyes to nothing but a red hippogryph male. "Who are you?" Her voice wavered and she saw a three of him then two. "Take me to him. To...." She paused. "To Arden."

Vestiarian saw the girl wobble, saw the way she looked fevered. Blood streaked her sides and there were wounds all over her body. She'd been through the ringer. Her eyes could barely focus on him as she spoke. She said a name and then passed out.
Arden.
There was a healer nearby with that name. It must be him. He took some moss from a nearby tree and held it to her wounds. He had to get her to stop bleeding before he could move her. She looked as though she'd lost a lot of blood. What if she died on him? He pressed the moss harder to her wound. Please stop bleeding. Please.

The world spun in a vast cacophony of sights and sounds. There was the sound of wailing, far away and then very near. There were eyes gouged from sockets looking at her as though they could still see. There were mouths with faces or lips, or anything but bright gleaming teeth. Sad little bells rang until they were so loud that her head was filled with them.
Skulls floated around her, all around. Lightning shot across the sky. Hands of ice and flame touched her skin until she thought she would die with the horror of it. What was happening? Why was this happening?
The talons, the claws, she remembered that much. Flame licked her face, ice moved into her heart. Was she going to die?
Why hadn't she listened to him? Why hadn't she listened to Arden when he had warned her a thousand lifetimes ago?

There wasn't much Vestiarian could do besides for first aid. As best he could, he pressed the moss into her wounds. When he felt as though she'd stop bleeding enough, he ventured to the trees. Using his talons, he cut several long pieces of vines down. He could use these to tie the moss closely to her wounds. The rest he would use to make a pallet to pull her on.
He wet the moss and cleaned the wounds as best as he could, washing the dirt out of deep gouges. What had happened to her? When he felt they were as clean as he could get them without causing her to bleed again, he new moss lightly onto her wounds-just enough so that they wouldn't fall off.

Someone was touching her. She could feel the heat of someone close to her, tending her wounds but she couldn't thank them. You were right, you were right. Why didn't I listen to you? I should have listened. You knew, why didn't you tell me what he would do. I wouldn't have listened would I? You tried to save me and now I might die because I was too stupid to listen.
Would even he be able to save her or was this it? Would she have to pay for not listening with her death? All she could see was his eyes staring at her like a snake, deep and fathomless.

Having claws made the process easier. He broke down as many canelike trees as he could and bound them together carefully. A sweat broke out on his brow as he did this. The day was running hot and the effort of making this pallet was strenuous enough. Pulling her was going to be much worse, but there was no other choice. He couldn't leave her to go find someone or this Arden she kept whispering over and over again.
When the pallet was done, he moved her up onto it, She groaned and moaned in her altered state. He hoped he wasn't hurting her very badly, though he wasn't even sure that she would know if he was. Don't die, he thought. Don't die on me. "I'm going to get you help."

Dimly, she felt some kind of strange almost rhythmic movement. Her whole body pulsed with pain and fever. All she could see was her, the girl she had lost. That's where it had all started, hadn't it? That's why she'd gone to AV in the first place, to save the girl she loved. But it had been past even his help and then she had been indebted to him.
And when she had refused....
His eyes were green and cold, slitted like snake when he looked at her. She saw her death in his eyes coming ever so swiftly. She had not run, why had she not run?
If she had run maybe she'd be...what? Was she alive, was she dead? She tried to open her eyes, and dimly saw something red and black moving in front of her. Someone else, she realized. She was not alone, for now.

Vestiarian had wrapped the vines around his neck and shoulders, using his teeth to help him pull. The mare was light, but still heavier than anything he'd carried in awhile. He tried to be gentle in his movements knowing each bump along the way would cause her pain, but he could only do so much.
He didn't even know if he would make it to this Arden or any other healer for that matter. She could die quietly without him ever knowing her name as he tried to get her help.
That thought spurred him to move faster, his muscles straining to keep up the pace. He could not allow her to die, not on his watch.
His mind drifted as he moved further along the road. She had a fever, dangerously high. Would it be worth it to submerge her in cool water to see if he could break it?

Zarita breathed out slightly, her whole world trembled and her eyes shut again. She had so much she wanted to say, to do...but she felt herself slipping away. No, she could not let AV win. It was bad enough that she was gone, let alone that AV had some power over her. If she let him win....what would it matter really? She couldn't think of why, but somehow it didn't change the fact that it did matter. She could not let him win.
Her throat was parched and the world beneath her eyelids swam with bright, blinding colors. She saw phantom shadows move and take shape. She saw an entire world that was alien to her. Hold on, she told herself. Hold on.

But wasn't a fever sometimes good? It was what helped fight infection, but probably not this high. Vestiarian paused losing his momentum. He had to stop though. It would be dangerous to take her farther and not treat the fever. He turned the little sleigh he'd made for her and started moving off the path toward the river. It was hard going, but he finally reached it.
It took him several minutes to find a place that was slower than the rest but not too deep and it took half an hour before he could even get her there. He unstrapped one of the vines and threaded it under her upper body and tugged her to the water, hoping that once he got her in the fever would come down some. And that he'd be able to get her out.
