‘Another coast of another land, another name for the Bitter Water, the Endless Deep… Let us see what adventures can be had in this strange new homeland I have found for myself.’ The ocean-colored mare thought to herself as she spiraled down out of the sky. “Hello to my new home… At least for now.”

With a flutter of wings Dyani Aluminè came to a gentle, prancing landing on the stretch of white-sand beach she had espied from the air. The soft white grains sighed under her hooves, her strides digging wave-rough patterns into her landing strip. Strides away the ocean waves pounded into already soaked sands, tossing shells and small coquina nuggets onto the beach. Moments later a fresh wave rose up and snatched the treasures its sister had just left, dragging them back to the depths with its retreat.

The golden-eyed mare watched the rush and retreat of the waves with a smile, flicking her short deer-like tail. Skirting closer to the laughing waves on blue-white hooves, the Cery-Flutter mare took a deep breath of the sea-salt scent of the air. The smell of the sea had always been home to her, even as the colors of the waves or the sand on the shore changed. She had skirted along more beaches than she cared to count, delighting in sand-covered-coasts and pebble-strewn beaches, salt-grass marshes and high cliffs. The colors of the ocean she collected in her heart: soft gray, sky blue, steel and navy, endless blue that flirted with black. She noted the variations in the color of mist that crested each wave with a studious eye, taking comfort in the idea of chasing a single wave from coast to coast. It gave the feel of continuity to her adventures, when nothing else remained the same.

She had long-ago given up on finding any rumors of family, even the idea of a herd had been set aside and abandoned for the foreseeable future. Still, making friends in this new place was as good enough a place to start as any. Maybe she would learn some new stories while she was at it.

“I wonder where they gather in this land?” Dya mused to herself as she paced away from the ocean with a final fond look. “Maybe there will be a Guide there, or a Shaman or Storyteller.”

Gentle strides carried her inland, her wings folded to her back and well out of the way. Slowly she watched the land change, noted how beach sand gave way to dunes and salt grass, and soon enough low brush and young trees heralded the end of the ocean’s kingdom. Now she had forest and fen to look forward to, meadows and old trees. It was a charming land, with songbirds overhead and butterflies on the breeze. Hesitating to admire the small blue blossoms dotting the meadow her path had led her to, Dya gave a faint smile.

“Perhaps I will stay awhile.”

Warmth, light and silence, these were some of the things that a stallion could want in times of thought. Even if the twitter of song birds did tug at that little string for annoyance, it was easily untethered and released. His own flutter wings fanned his sides idly as he stood watching the skies. There was a thoughtfulness in his features as if he were pondering something, something very far off. After a moment, maybe longer, he shook hid head, long black ringlets waving in the motion.

"no sense dwelling on what can't be done about." he muttered stepping away from the land that he had shared with his sister, a pain in his backside, but family all the same. "Time to find a better place, someplace that... Has no memory to it."

Pressing through the trees and away from the small dwelling he had shared, Rajanikant followed an old trail carved through the woods. Its branches pressed back against their host trees giving the stallion a wide space as to not tear his delicate wings to shreds. Exiting the trees, perhaps at the same moment a mare also entered the same meadow. His entrance was a bight higher, up where he could see scant trances of the seas through the tree branches.

Home, no matter how much he wanted to, he was tied here. Much to his own regret..

There is a certain freedom in living nowhere, in belonging nowhere. In having no herd, no family, no friends. There's no heavy weight to your heart, no history to be bogged down by. No one to be angered by your departure or wait for your return. If you had experienced it, perhaps there would be a void, a feeling of loneliness. But Dyani has never had that, had someone wanting her to return... No siblings or parents or dear friend to share secrets with. She's only had herself, to look out for and look after, her whole life. So she doesn't know what it is like on the other side of things, knows only the power of her own freedom... The lightness of heels with no chains on them.

Still, she has a sense that someone should be there, waiting in the shadows.. Waiting for her to return to them. A loving herd? She doesn't know what it is like to belong to such a thing, but like others she has certainly imagined. Tries to match up the ideals in her mind with what she actually feels.

But her feelings are a different thing entirely. Mostly it is a loneliness, an absence of all these things... But there is a lightness, a wild sort of freedom. Freedom because you do not have to worry about leaving those souls behind, about missing them when you wander... How can you miss what you do not know?

And Dyani does miss it, thinks she must have had it at some point, but it is long-lost now. So she took up wandering, traveling the lands and experiencing new things. She saw forests and fields, mountains and meadows, lakes and oceans and the coast and the sea. All the while she spent time searching for new friends and new family. And wherever she found them, she would build a new home. Hopefully it would be near the sea, but she had never felt so comfortable anywhere as she did near the sea.

Pawing gingerly at the soft spring grass under-hoof, Dyani admired the blossoms in wordless silence. She craned her head down to drink in the scent, and then straightened to eye her surroundings. At that exact moment she noted the appearance of another Soquili, a stallion who stood higher up on an arching hill. He was at least like her, with delicate butterfly-like wings instead of those of a predatory nature like the Kalona.

Going still like a startled deer, Dyani admired the misty, swirling patterns of color and white over the stallion's shoulders and legs. He was quite a sight, with his curling hair and interesting wings. And she was standing there, staring at him like.. like some foolish filly or something.

With a cough and a shake of her head that chimed the delicate silver bells beside her ear, she straightened and offered a greeting. "Ah... Hello. Forgive me if I am intruding. I'm afraid I was just wandering about, and found my way here by fortuitous mistake."
