Her trees were in bloom, it was a spectacular sight with purple flowers in contrast to the blue sky. She had learned that the twig upon her back was that of a sapling Jacaranda. And this grove of Jacaranda trees was to be her sanctuary, a place where she was safe and free to be whom she truly was. Her siblings believed her to be a silly little filly that did not have any thoughts in her head. Sometimes she thought they actually believed her to be smart but then it was soon gone, vanishing like a puff of smoke. Yes she loved to dance and see the world and always saw it in a sense of wonder. She was full of life, unlike the rest of her family that only dealt with death. Her tree was blooming, while the tree upon her mother’s back was a black thing that seemed to have died when Lament forgot who she had been. Inanna shrugged and pushed the thoughts away, she would not let those thoughts disturb her here in her sanctuary.
With a laugh and a smile she danced around the grove, her little twig moving with the graceful movement. Oh how wondrous it was to be alive.

Síorlasair was almost a hundred percent sure that when his mother had sent himself and his brother out to go berry picking, this hadn’t been quite what she’d intended. Not three steps away from their sleeping grounds they had instantly turned to one another, decided they’d spend the day doing whatever they wanted, and split off into opposite directions. Chances were his brother was up to no good, yet again. The colt was always up to some sort of mischief that would give his mother grief. But Síorlasair didn’t care, because he was finally completely free. A huge grin spread across his face as he raised his head up towards the sky.
A happy whinny escaped him as he trotted forwards, eyes bright and staring at all the sights. He didn’t often get to travel, so when he was allowed to roam around by himself he always made sure to enjoy it. After all, the whole area was beautiful. The bright blue sky, the leafy buds appearing on the trees, the gentle lapping of the stream against the shore. He loved it all.

Inanna looked around at the purple trees; the color of the blossoms turned the small pound purple. It calmed the filly as she gazed at the beauty of life around her. She understood death and did not fear it, due to the teachings of her family, but she always felt more connected to the living then to the dying. She was different than her brother and sister, she was the only one without wings, she was the grounded one, but yet her name meant Lady of the Sky. Perhaps it meant that she was a lady who dwelled beneath the sky and could not be kept from the beautiful sights.
Someone was coming. Her ear wings twitched, but she had yet to hear or see the new arrival. The forest had told her, the sounds had shifted in one area, which only happened when someone was walking beneath the leafy canopy. Inanna hoped that it was not her family, she loved them dearly, but she needed time away from them. That was the whole point of her sanctuary.
Quietly she waited for whoever it was to come into her sight, ready to call out a greeting when she finally saw who trespassed.

Síorlasair cast his eyes upwards. What were these? Strange trees graced the space around him, their bark as twisted and dark as the night sky. But it was not their deformed trunks that seemed to catch his eye, it was the bright purple foliage just overhead. Were they... leaves? He paused his pace, craning his neck to try to peer closer above him. He had certainly never heard of purple leaves before, what an odd notion. Could there be other trees with different leaves? His mother had mentioned that in autumn, when all the leaves fell, they would turn all brilliant shades of reds and yellows and mahoganies before wilting into dull brown. But he'd never seen it, he'd been born just at the start of the coldest winter season. Just seeing all the green had been spectacular for him, and now purple? Could there be blue leaves too, or pink, black even?
He stepped forwards again, keeping his eyes on the branches overhead, barely watching the rest of his surroundings. His gaze was far too fixated on the bizarrely beautiful scene up above him.

Since she had been watching the edge of her sanctuary with unblinking eyes she was able to see the purple foal step into view. It seemed completely engrossed in the trees around it, as the purple winged foal came closer; Inanna was able to tell it was a colt. “Hello there!” She called out to the foal, trying not to startle him too much, for anyone who was fascinated by the purple trees fascinated her. “They are called Jacaranda trees. And they only bloom this way for a short while, I wish there was a way for them to stay purple all year round. I love the color purple,” She stared at the purple colt. Perhaps he would be her first friend, he was purple after all and it was her favorite color, it must be the Fates giving her a sign or something. She really should have listened to her Grandfather more when he talked about such things.

The voice came out of nowhere, making the colt jump with surprise. He'd been so focused on looking above him, he doubted he'd have noticed if a bear had tried to eat him then. He looked a little sheepish, knowing he should have been more cautious, but the feeling was fleeting. He shrugged it off almost instantly, too caught up in what he was doing.
A filly stood before him, her fur mostly brown but with small winglets coming out of her ears and ankles. Síorlasair raised his wings in greeting, giving them a silly flap by way of saying hello. "Jacaranda? They're amazing! I've never seen purple trees before. But I've mostly only seen bare trees." He wrinkled his nose, thinking of the naked branches he usually saw. "Hey, some of them must have fallen off! Look, you have some Jacaranda branches on your back!" He liked the word. Jacaranda. It was fun to say.

She smiled apologetically at the colt, she really did not mean to surprise him, “They only grow in certain environments, and it is quite surprising to see so many in one place. It is my favorite tree. Where have you seen the bare trees?” Her expression crinkled into a worried one, it could mean that the trees were sick, which would not be good. Unless he usually saw trees in the winter, then it would explain quite a bit. His words startled her out of her worry and she gave a happy laugh, “None of the branches fell off the trees, this branch is growing out of my back. It is why the Jacaranda tree is my favorite; it is because I am a part of one.” Inanna gave the foul a brilliant smile.

Síorlasair smiled a giant grin, looking up at the trees. "I like them! Where do they usually grow? I know pine trees like to grow where it's cold." He looked at her quizzically at her question, "Well... you know, everywhere. All the trees were bare, 'cept for the pine trees! Mum said trees do it all the time, every time its winter they just lose all their leaves. Not sure why though, wouldn't they just get cold?
When she laughed, he tilted his head in confusion. "You have trees growing out of your back?" That was such an odd thing! He'd never seen trees growing on someone before. "They're so pretty! Does it hurt, growing out of your back? Or is it kinda like wings, and you don't notice them? How'd you get trees on your back anyway?" He took a step closer, intense curiosity filling him, trying to see a bit closer.
"My name's Síorlasair, by the way. But you can call me Síor, or Sair, or something. Just not 'Las'! Because then I sound like a girl." He let out a gentle laugh, glad to have found someone to talk to.

The young filly looked around at the blooming purple trees, “I wish I knew where these lovely trees usually grew. Even this area, I believe, is not usually very conducive to their growth so it is a surprise that so many are here and thriving. It’s almost like magic,” she shifted her gaze to the colt, how would he react to her words about magic? Did he believe in the strong mystical force that surrounded them all and connected them to each being?
It was due to who she was, who her family was, and to the dark destiny that loomed over their heads that she believed in magic, be it good or bad, for no matter what their should always be balance. She tended to see life as a type of magic, it was so vibrant, so radiant that it was hard not to feel its pull. Inanna knew that she was only a piece in the collective whole of the world and her destiny was in Fates’ hooves.
Inanna is the opposite of her two older siblings. Ereshkigal is quiet and drawn toward the Shadowlands, while Inanna relished in the light of life. Utu is stuffy and serious, he could not tell a joke to save his life, while his younger sister savored the chance to dance around saying silly things and joking with those she met. There was more to life than death and judgment; a fact Inanna knew well and she intended to live every second of it as if they were her last.
Caramel eyes blinked as her thoughts returned from their tangent, so he was referring to the trees in winter devoid of their leaves. The filly tilted her head to the side, her head wings fluttered in curiosity, “I never thought about that, do trees get cold without their leaves? It’s too bad we cannot ask one. I know I have a twig, but don’t really consider myself a tree, so I wouldn’t be able to answer that question.” The last sentence was mumbled to herself as if she was trying to figure out why she could not speak tree or somehow instinctively know the important answer.
Inanna smiled wide and flaunted her little sprout some more, “Thank you! And one day they will be even more lovely, perhaps as breath taking as the trees around us… at least that is my hope,” she giggled and then considered his question seriously, “It does not hurt now, but then it just a twig, perhaps when I am older and it is as big as Mam’s will it be bothersome.” She made a face as she tried to remember what her mother had said about the trees and how she walked with the weight, “Mam walks with a slow heavy gait that causes the tree upon her back to sway. I have never seen pain cross her face because of the load upon her back, it is just there, a part of her. Although it does make traveling slow and cumbersome.” Inanna looked at the colt’s wings, “Mam and I are the only ones with the trees; baba and my siblings have the wings.”
She laughed at his introduction, “I promise not to call you Las! It is nice to meet you Síor! I’m Inanna, you can call me Ina or Nanna if you wish. Although I just realized that Nanna makes me seem like an old lady…” She paused as she taught the name over, “It’s perfect, I like it! What do you think of it Síor?”

The colt looked at the young filly in awe - she seemed to know so much about the trees! Maybe it was because she was part tree, he thought. After all, he had always tried to learn as much as possible about flying, so maybe she studied everything she could about them. Or maybe she was just super smart. He thought about her comment on how the trees were almost magical, and his eyes grew wide as he stared back up at the foliage overhead. Magic, could it really be? A bunch of rare trees, all growing together. Trees he’d never seen anywhere else ever. Perhaps it had to be some sort of mystical force, one that drew things together. Suddenly he felt he had a newfound respect for the purple-leaved plants around him, beyond the simple curiosity he had felt before. They had to be special. Which meant the filly, who had one growing on her back, must have been pretty special too! “Magic, do you really think? Mum always teases me when I say things look magical, but… surely it must be! How else could something so beautiful exist like this?”
The foal had no time to be further philosophical, as he was suddenly posed with the question of trees and how they spoke. “Well, I know I certainly get cold if I take off my scarf when it’s wintery! Maybe they don’t mind the cold though…” He scrunched up his face in concentration. “Maybe you just haven’t found the right tree. You know how you can only talk to some familiars, maybe you could ask a really special tree. Though you don’t seem very like a tree to me, you definitely look a filly to me. Maybe they can only talk to other trees, maybe they talk in a special way through their roots.”
Síorlasair peered at her sprout some more, mulling it over for a brief moment more before shrugging it off. Life was full of all these weird mysteries and things he didn’t understand yet. He let out a giggle at her words, “I’m sure it’ll grow up big and beautiful, with tons of lovely leaves. And if it’s just a part of you then it can’t get too heavy surely! Like I have wings, but my brother doesn’t, but even though I’m heavier because of them I can run just as fast.” He puffed out his chest as he boasted slightly, though he felt no particular animosity towards his sibling.
He grinned widely at her introduction. Inanna – it sounded like a name suitable for a great jacaranda! “I think you’re waaaay too fun for anyone to ever confuse you for a super old lady. And I like it, it suits you!”
Thalea Sorry for the long gap! RL got a tad bit hectic but I'll be back to regular tagging now ^.^
