Otexx hummed something low and catchy as he meandered through the tall grasses of the pridelands, slightly sleepy but overall cheery. The daily hunt had gone well, even if Otexx had only participated minimally this time around. Searching out herds was important during hunts too, so he didn't feel too bad about it. He'd helped, and that was the important part.
His white tipped tail gave an idle flick, the volume of his humming increasing as he neared one of the less popular drinking holes in the pridelands. He didn't mind socializing in the least but he had half a mind to just lounge and watch the sky for a while. His humming quieted a little when he was close to the water, not wanting to disturb anyone else who might have come to this drinking hole as well. A lazy smile was on his maw as he looked around, taking his time.
"Well would you look at that, peace and quiet." He chuckled, flopping down in the cool mud right at the edge of the water.

Nondo'Vuta had come to one of the quieter watering holes in the pride to let off some steam. Her constant sparring and training was taking it's toll, though the adolescent was growing into a rather strong lioness indeed. The silver patters on her body that were so often likened to a strange kind of armour seemed to glisten in the sun as she drank heartily and reclined near the edge of the water with a happy sigh. Though it was not empty, there were few here. Her red eyes, however, caught the glimpse of an approaching dark mane male, and she held her gaze there for a moment. His face seemed to wear a mask made of markings and reminded her a little of herself.

The humming had moved on to a soft little song, mostly under his breath as he watched a few other members. He'd have to find a more deserted area later, to really just belt some songs out. He grinned at the idea, shifting so he could pause his song and have a drink of water.
This was when he noticed the younger female watching him. He lifted his maw from the water, head tilting slightly as he took in the silver speckles across her face and likened them to stars in his head. "You know, I always find this watering hole to be the best choice after a long day. The quiet is nice, don't you think?" He continued to watch her as he spoke up, completely destroying the quiet atmosphere he was mentioning.

Hearing the strange singing under his breath, she continued to watch him, eyes slightly narrowed. She was aware she could look at little rude so looked away with a smile. The female had always seemed older than her years and there was a quality within her voice that seemed to hint at this too. "It is, it's nice to have some peace and quiet. Especially after a busy day." Her voice seemingly rumbled across the water.
Nondo'vuta moved her shoulder and winced. One of the soldiers had really dug hard into it the other day. They'd been a little apologetic but she's shrugged it off- quite literally. It clicked and rolled around a little strangely on its joint - but it was nothing major.

Otexx was not put off by the staring, he usually saw it as a sign of curiosity. Curiosity was good! Unless it was stink-eye sort of staring... in which case he ignored entirely. No need to poke at a fire ant colony, right? His head tilted the other way when she looked away, his own smile tugging upwards when he spied hers.
He nodded along to her words, realizing he hadn't seen her in his hunting party. Which didn't necessarily mean she wasn't a hunter... it wasn't like they all massed into just one group, after all. Way too many members for that. He couldn't recall her lovely dark pelt with the silvery markings on any of his hunting outings, honestly. "And what kept you busy today..." Oh. He'd forgotten to introduce himself, hadn't he? Which meant she'd never introduced herself either and now he was left wanting for a name. "Miss?" It would have to do, for now.
He found himself climbing back to his paws, easily moving himself closer to her area so he didn't have to raise his voice so much to speak. His bright eyes caught the wince and moved to her shoulder. Hmm, was she hurt? "Are you alright? I take it this was part of your busy day?" He indicated her shoulder with his paw, now just a foot or so from her.
"I hope you don't mind me inviting myself right over here. I'm Otexx, by the way." He grinned.

Miss? Her lip curled into a smirk - but it was a friendly one. Manners were always well received, especially from a lioness who considered herself to be in a position where she would have to be well-mannered to deal with many members of the pride.
"Don't worry about it. I'm Nondo'Vuta." She rumbled. It was nice to have some company that wasn't... her job, or someone that was constantly trying to spar with her. As much as she loved it, it was nice to have someone to talk to. Her sisters were there of course, but they had roles too. Her mother was more... difficult to hold a conversation with.
"I'm a Guardian.." She wasn't sure how many new a lot about the new roles, so she expanded slightly. "I train and oversee the soldiers. It's tough but it was what I was born to do." She was born to be a warrior - was what she meant. It was something she had firmly believed in for a long while.
"What do you do?" The lioness found she had a genuine interest in this male. He was friendly but not too imposing, and it was nice to have a little bit of conversation.

"Nondo'Vuta!" He repeated in a jovial manner, grinning. "What do you prefer? Full name? Vuta? Nondo?" He then gave a little chuckle. "O is alright for me, or Tex maybe. Never had anyone call me Tex before... you know, if Otexx is too much of a mouthful." He winked. Nicknames were funny sometimes, he thought. Though most lions he knew with more than a two or three syllable name often preferred the ease a nickname afforded.
His ears perked and his head tilted a little, Guardian? She was quick to tack on a general description of what it was she did. His smile grew more fond when she mentioned that she'd been born to do that very job. "Well, it's good then that you're doing it. It sounds tough indeed, but rewarding since it's something you really enjoy." Soldiers were important, after all. That meant she was even more important, because she helped mold those soldiers into what they needed to be.
"Me?" He waved a paw halfheartedly, as though it wasn't as important as what she'd just said. "A hunter... sure it's an important job in any pride, but a little boring. Wouldn't you agree?" He didn't sound sour or upset by this, rather a little amused.

A little taken aback by the males... intensity of friendliness... Her eyes widened and she cleared her throat. Her usual companions were not those who were chirpy, though she didn't know the male well enough to group him into such a collective. Nondo was used to soldiers, hardened personalities who were bold and strong, some of them almost silently so.
The wink threw her off even more so and she frowned ever so slightly. "Er, Nondo is fine... Tex..." She ran the nickname over her tongue and shrugged slightly.
"It is tough, but so is anything worth doing." The lioness nodded, finally cracking a wide smile, laughter and warm starting to creep in from his rather sunny disposition.
"Of course hunting is important. We soldiers need fuel to eat, you know." If Nondo had been in the right move, maybe she would have attempted a wink.

When the lioness actually tried out one of the nicknames it made Otexx's eyes shine with amusement. He didn't bother suppressing his grin, joyful but slightly surprised. He supposed it wouldn't be so bad to get stuck being called Tex, and perhaps names weren't the best things to joke around with... but he couldn't not like it now, Nondo was too funny about it.
Otexx watched the smile widen on the lionesses maw and was delighted. When you could put others' in a good mood you could go your entire life being in a good mood! "Well, I suppose that's quite true." Maybe Otexx could take a page out of this lionesses' book!
His eyes were still shining as he nodded along with her words. "Yes and from what I've heard each soldier can fill up on five zebra by themselves. Is it true? No, wait... don't ruin the magic for me!" Sometimes gossip was just down right silly. "In any case, I am glad to be of some service for you, then." His words were genuine, he liked to be helpful for others.

Nondo found herself enjoying the company of the male, it was nice to just talk to someone she supposed. The lionesses reaction to his new nickname meant that Nondo made a mental note to use it more often in this conversation- it seemed to please him. Perhaps he had been testing her when he suggested it. Shrugging she opened her mouth to answer his question with a resounding yes. Many of the soldiers that she had met had large appetites. Working hard physically often meant that was the case, and she was no exception. Food was fuel, and you needed a lot of fuel to keep running at a high level. Sparring left her exceptionally hungry and she often headed straight for dinner after training sessions.
"Everyone in the pride plays a part, of course, we are all as important as one another." Nodding wisely, she looked across the watering hole, the number of creatures had seemed to dwindle even further. Chuckling she looked over to Otexx, "No chance recruiting you for the soliders then?" Her lip curled gently.
