After the frigid chill of the harsh winter had left Tendaji, it seemed that most were happy to just return to their normal routines, though the normal routine didn’t seem to be what the weather had in mind. It wasn’t long before almost everywhere noticed the way that the winter air had seemed to push precipitation onto the land in its place. Rain flowed seemingly non-stop, reaching all the areas of Tendaji, even frozen Zena saw its share of rain, though the temperatures were still much too cold to support such a thing and rain turned to hail, which froze over the ground.

The critters of Tendaji only wanted to seek shelter from their flooded homes and the wet downpour that surrounded them. They found their way into homes, huts, sheds, anywhere that could stay dry - and preferrably warm.

Hewque loved this. All the rain was coming down and it wasn’t even really cold at all. Everyone else seemed to be so bothered by it all coming down in such a big amount but to him it was great. Perhaps he just loved water though. It made sense given what his mother was. Right now he was all nice and curled up in the tree his mother and cart driver had said was theirs for a while. After all it was nice to have a place to call home other than the wagon for a while. It meant that there was so many other things to explore and see. Hewque asked why they couldn’t live on the ground with the obans and matori but his mother just smiled a bit sad looking and sad that it was a bit too soon in life for that kind of thing. He didn’t really understand it but he supposed that it must have been important for some reason. Walking around the room he pretended he was a shifter like his friend Issally. Had he been born a shifter than everything here would be normal and every day common so Hewque was glad he was born who he was, because everything here was a great adventure and more than that he just loved to see it all. Smiling wide he jumped as far as he could from one side of the room to the other trying to avoid imaginary gaps in the floor. He couldn’t really do it outside in this weather because it was much to dangerous so for now he was practicing in the house so that one day he could go with his friends and actually try the branch hoping that so many shifters made look so easy. Hewque knew from this practice hopping that it wasn’t really that easy and took a lot of skill he didn’t have just yet. But in time he was sure he would.

Something flew in the room and landed right where he had been planning to head next. Stopping quickly enough that he nearly feel Hewque looked at the large bug. It was all wet and had big eyes and claws and eve a stinger of some sort. Eyes wide he thought it was one of the coolest things ever! More of them glided into the room too through the open window. They were all wet and seemed to huddle toward the small contained fire in the room. There were ten in all. He had no idea what they were but they didn’t attack or antying so they must be good. That and they came in all on their own so they must not be to scared of earthlings. Maybe they were someone’s pets. That made sense to the young hybrid. He sat back in the corner of the room watching them move and scurry about with interest. After a time they dried off and seemed to pile into a big ball in a corner and sleep. Small eyes kept trained on the ball of bugs until they too got heavy and drifted to sleep. A sharp scream woke Hewque up though. Looking around confused he was scooped up into the arms of his mother who was clearly worried about him. The cart driver who his mother traveled with was busy scarring off all the bugs. Hewque was too busy being squished against his mother to protest. After things had calmed down a lot he asked her why it was bad that someone’s pet had come in to get warm. After all in the wild when someone came to fire they talked to mother and the driver first but then usually they came and warmed up by the fire. His mother hugging him close again explained that that was true, but the bu… the Maglardillas as they were called, weren’t someone’s pet but actually wild creatures that wandered in to get out of the rain. Normally they were shy and stayed away from earthlings since they were actually a source of food, but since the rain had been so heavy today they must have come regardless of the danger and he was very lucky that he hadn’t been hurt by the creatures. Hewque was fussed over some more by his mother before she was finally satisfied that he was safe and unharmed. He did tell her a few times but for some reason she was always so worried about him. That was ok he supposed after all had she been found sleeping in a room full of wild animal he would be worried about her too. She was his only mother after all so nothing in all of the world could replace her. He promised he would be more careful in the future and got a big hug and kiss on his head for his words. Then the cart driver pulled out what he and Hewque’s mother had gotten while out. It was a really nice cake of sorts that was really sweet. Smiling with bits of fruit on his face Hewque decided he liked traveling but he also liked staying in one place for a while too, that meant there was something special to see.
