The first thing on the list of chores for him to do was to help with some 'spring cleaning' or so the list had said. Upon reaching the place where the house was that he was supposed to clean he couldn't help but to stare with eyes wide and mouth agape, "Ahhh, so this is it?" He asked, looking at the woman who he was working for. He turned back to the mess, his wings fluttering like mad, "Do I have to clean the whole house? Or?"
The woman lifted a hand, covering a giggle, before shaking her head and then motioned to the baskets she had nearby, "No, no dear boy, it's up to you to go through the garden and deal with the herbs that are growing wild in that area. This place used to belong to... well, a less then savory sort, and you need to see to it that the place is made safe for whoever ends up buying this place next." She explained, digging out a list of herbs from the pocket of her pretty dress, offering it to him, "Here, you take this, it tells you what each of the herbs are, as well as if they are dangerous or not. The medicinal herbs are to be put in the blue baskets and the dangerous ones in the red baskets. Got it? You can take a few with you, to keep or sell, but the majority is to go in the baskets."
She gave a smile then motioned to the area and said, "If you get the garden done then I would ask that you take care of the herbs that have grown passed the garden's barriers as well, please? I'd do it myself but... well, you can see." She motioned with a hand at the dress she was wearing, as though that explained everything. She didn't want to risk such a pretty dress because someone had let their plants get out of hand.
Aiolos gave a slow nod as he looked over the list that he'd been given of herbs, and much to his relief they seemed to have not only the descriptions but sketches as well. That would help a lot he thought to himself as he scooped up the two stacks of color coded baskets, dragging them along toward the house with him. He knew that this was going to be a difficult one, to get this place cleaned up, to make sure the herbs didn't get mixed up, and make sure that things were looking nice by the end. He looked from side to side, a thoughtful look on his face, before he started to unstack the baskets, leaving the three blue ones together and the three red together a short distance away. Once they were set up, herb list in hand, he set about gathering the plants by type, starting with the plants that were sitting to the fence and went from there.
It was a chore that seemed to be both overwhelming and a bit never ending, as though he wasn't going to ever catch up with these plants. He found himself starring at them, wondering if they were just growing back right after he'd picked them or something. Were they magic herbs? No, that wasn't it, there were just a whole ton of them... an impressive amount and the woman was going to likely make a killing selling them. It was something that caused him to give a thoughtful sound, "Maybe I ought to see about selling herbs too." He mused to himself before he continued on with the picking of the herbs that belonged to the woman who owned the land. By picking herbs for her he would be able to get knowledge about which plants would be worth gathering to sell. He wondered if maybe the lady would let him have the list or a copy of the list when he was done with the job that she'd give to him along with her signature on his chore list.
The more ways that Aiolos could come up with to make money the more likely he'd be to one day make enough that he could get himself a house of his own, even one like this in the middle of no where that was overgrown with herbs would be nice. A place all his own, that was the start of his dream, though when he closed his eyes he could see more then just that, he could see a family as well. It was a thought he shook off though, not wanting to get too distracted from what he was doing.
The job of filling the baskets with herbs was one that took from when he showed up early on in the day until the sun was starting to set. It was then that the woman reappeared, wanting to see the boy's progress. Aiolos lifted a scuffed up hand to wave at the woman, "I think that I got them all gathered." He said, motioning to the baskets that he he'd filled up with the various plants, "I have the ones I want over there, can I keep that amount?"
The woman looked at the garden, the baskets, to where Aiolos had put 'his' herbs, and then back again before she finally said, "It looks good and yes, I suppose that you can keep those ones. It's not a crazy amount of them, so I can let them go." She's almost expected he might ask for more, maybe for a whole basket, so the amount he'd ask for wasn't something she was too upset over losing, "Alright, load the baskets up in the cart over there, and then you are free to go on your way."
Aiolos nodded, then held up the list of chores to her, "Can you sign this?" He asked, watching as she nodded, taking the writing utensil from him, writing her name down, "And can I have this herb list? I'd like to be able to study it a while longer." His voice was hopeful as he asked for the piece of paper.
The woman starred at him for a long moment then gave a nod, "So long as you get those baskets packed up you can have that." She said, barely getting the words out before Aiolos was racing off to do as she'd asked of him. She gave a chuckle, feeling as though she'd gotten quite lucky getting such a mess cleaned up for the price of a handful of plants and a scrap of paper, having no idea that Aiolos felt he was getting the same good deal.
