Emerging from the cave, her body and clothes now free of the chocolate mess from the previous portal, Kari edged closer to the heart shaped portal just outside the hot spring. It gave off a slight glow and warmth the closer she got. The gnomes guarding the area didn't seem too keen on their current job, shifting anxiously, as if the warmth bothered them. "Well, hopefully this one won't lead to a free fall", the ghoul chuckled nervously, stepping carefully into the glowing portal. A blinding light assaulted her, causing her to throw up her arms and squint her eyes in an effort to block out the light. When the light receded and lights ceased to dance across her vision, she found herself in what appeared to be a hedge maze. Like the previous area, the walls seemed to trail off endlessly into a rosy sky. "I guess I should start by finding my way out of here", Kari murmured, putting her hand to a wall as she advanced toward a bend in the path. Before she got far, a rustling behind her made her spin around. She was just barely able to catch a glimpse of something small and grey. Faint whispers could be heard and Kari readied her staff in preparation for an attack. Another rustle sounded next to her, allowing her a better view of the culprit: a small stone Kushi-Kushi, gazing towards the sky. Lowering her staff as it dissapeared once more, the whispers grew slightly louder, just enough for her to make out the words: Kiss the Kushis...Over and over, the voices repeated the phrase. Was this her task... to kiss stone statues?

Kari walked down the path, her fingers gently brushing along the foliage as she moved. From what she saw earlier, the Kushis didn't stay out for long, so the reaper had to move quick if she wanted to catch the stone figures. Hearing a rustle just behind her, Kari whipped around and lashed out a hand. She grinned as her hand clasped into a stone Kushi. Kneeling down, she placed a tiny kiss onto it before letting it go, allowing the statue to disappear shortly after. Maybe this wouldn't be too difficult.

Keeping her ears peeled for the slightest sound, it wasn't long before the rustle of leaves announced the arrival of another stone Kushi. Once more, Kari was able to successfully capture and kiss the speedy statue. Feeling confident, the ghoul set down the statue and returned to her hunt.

Upon hearing another noise on her left, Kari spun around... only for her slightly damp scarf tail to slap her in the face due to the sudden motion. By the time she was able to peel the article from her face, whatever had appeared was no longer present. "Guess that's what I get for being overconfident", she sighed in resignation.

Rounding a corner, Kari was met with... a dead end. She stood still for a minute, listening for any movement in the immediate area. When nothing presented itself, the ghoul grimaced and turned to try another path.

Kari was beginning to think the Kushis were starting to wise up to her tactics. She was met with another dead end and no Kushis in sight.

Hearing a familiar rustle in front of her, Kari dove towards the noise, her hand outstretched. "Yes!", she exclaimed as she felt her hand wrap around a cold stone statue, dust swirling around her where she slid. Planting a kiss onto it, the reaper placed the statue back in the hedge, stood up, dusted herself off, and proceeded down the path. She could do this without making herself look like a fool.

Her victory was short-lived as Kari suffered another defeat as she dove and accidentally scratched her hand on a corner of the statue rather than clasping her hand around it. Clamping her mouth down on the scratch, she fought off the urge to swear as she continued on.

Kari stopped at the sound of more rustling, but was disappointed when nothing popped out. Maybe the sound was from a different location in the maze?

Whirling around at the soun of rustling behind her, Kari managed to grasp another Kushi. Kissing it and setting it down, Kari wondered just how many of these things she had to find and kiss, the voices, while still whispering in the distance, only repeated the previous litany. For now, her only option was to keep moving.

Hearing yet another rustle, this time just around the corner, Kari rushed forward and reached around just in time to grab onto the stone Kushi as it was about to pop back into the hedge. Placing a kiss on it, the ghoul was startled to find that the whispering had ceased and that a low rumble had taken it place. Gazing around nervously, Kari stood stock still, her staff at the ready once more, even as the rumbling faded. Proceeding forward cautiously, she placed her back against the hedge to peer around the next corner. She was relieved to find that instead of an enemy, there stood another glowing red portal. She had successfully managed to complete the maze's task. Stepping through the portal, she was greeted not by a blinding light, but with a soft warmth as she was transported back the the entrance of the hot spring and its disgruntled gnome guards.
