Hey guys, Kia here in mule form~ I realize you all know RP in this shop has never been what it could be; the original ideas were a bit too grand and personally, I am not a very reliable RPer. So asking me to shape the RP of a shop has kind of always been a running joke among staff.
However, it looks like some of our new friends would like to see a more active RP community, and honestly, so would I! But I would really like your help shaping it ^_^
So please, tell me your thoughts on how this world of ours should be shaped and I'll share some of mine. Then I will put everything into the best semblance of order that I can and hopefully we will have a more solid foundation for new community members to come in and play!
Why the last RP establishment push faded out: I stopped working on this back in 2012 because my best friend, Kim, who was an excellent writer and avid RPer, passed away unexpectedly. She had been writing a story for the shop because that is not a strength of mine. I never even got to see the draft~ we'd been talking about her progress Thursday and 4 days later, Monday evening via FB, I found out she had passed away Sunday morning. So I walked away from this and have never really looked back; I hope you can forgive me.
What we had been working on: We had been trying to establish a back story. I had ideas and Kim was going to make them make sense in a form others could read and follow. So, from the best I can recall, here is what I wanted:
-Myriamele and Laille are two Gaians who are relatively capable with magic. Myria practiced for fun, Laille practiced for real. -the girls run a bookshop and one day, an old chest, full of strange little crystals is dropped off with a donation of books. A single sheet of paper in the chest cautions 'Adventure wisely' -some sort of magical mishap occurs, transporting the girls to the Spiraglades where they encounter and bond with their gladier (I have no reason to not keep the names Ruru came up with, I just have to look them up) -upon returning, the girls set up a permanent gateway to the Spiraglades in their garden and create a magical calling card that attracts those Gaians with a little magic and adventure in their souls to the shop and the girls summon them a Gladier friend.
So with that story outline in mind, here are some of the Spiraglade specifics we'd come up with:
-each species has a glade, each glade encompasses its own island. Think... every visualization of Neverland any film version of Peter Pan has ever used; islands floating among the stars. Gladiers can move between them, the species just each originated on their own island, creating their physical differences and abilities, etc. According to the original [shop v.2] plan, Ceta were the primary magic users, Circini were the primary athletes/warriors (as war-like as gladiers get?), and Spicae could fly...so really, who cares about what else they can do. Gladiers are magical, inherently, they all have some magic. Ceta just are the ones who school it best. Any gladier species can aspire to anything, but those are their most easily accomplished strengths. -there are two available RP realms; Gaia and the Spiraglades. Because Gladiers have limited ability to exist safely outside the magic of their home, they MUST stay in and around the bookshop when they come to Gaia (casual, in-the-shop-thread RP would be in the bookshop). But there are no limits on guild RP; that takes place in the Spiraglades and the Gladiers can speak to each other. So long as there is no technology, your imagination is your only limit. -ghosts are the only exceptions: they can only RP with ghosts throughout the year, except in the month of October. However, between two ghosts, they can RP freely in either Gaia or the Spiraglades. -Ruru made these world regions and assigned them risk factors due to a very ambitious and nearly impossible to implement RP quest system that would reward items and edits... this is not happening, ain't nobody got time for that. I have no problem keeping the names of places and trying to find someone who can make me a pretty map. Is a map something more regular RPers appreciate having or is a thread full of descriptions of regions enough?
So please, if anyone has any thoughts or additional suggestions, I would love to hear them. I have taken a week off mid-March to just give myself a little stay-cation, and would love to make the guild a bit prettier and finally finish it all off.

General storyline and RP aren't the only improvements I had started working on when I took the shop over. I redesigned the guild and repurposed the guild Ruru had made for our obscenely large Pokemon event. But I did not finish those revisions! Since they are mostly RP-related, I would appreciate more regular RPers weighing in on them as well!
The Illumision Fields :: Quests Subforum This is supposed to be a subforum for people to make quest threads for custom gladiers. This will not give people a claim on a cosplay or a concept, but it would allow the collection and organization of references. I would like to know how people prefer to see quest threads set up and any ideas of how to potentially reward exceptional threads.
Plots Subforum As I understand it, enough people prefer to write out plots as opposed to actually RPing out their stories. This would be a subforum for these to be collected in an organized manner. Feel free to tell me how you like seeing this set up, it is something I've never done formally. I've plotted with two people, neither of whom are available on Gaia any longer and our plotting was all over IM.
Feedback Subforum This was just going to be an open place to post suggestions/concerns/disputes, so doesn't specifically have anything to do with RP... but feel free to give thoughts on how I should set it up!
So there you have it, the sum of my unfinished ambitions with my shop! I'd like to get this all squared away in the next week or so, that gives me a month to iron out unanticipated issues before classes start! Thank you all for your thoughts and contributions <3 I prefer the shop feel as accessible as possible, so want to incorporate as many ideas of those actually playing as possible.

Woot ^_^
So are the islands mostly the same?? water, waterfalls, caves ect.?
And what sort of things do Gladiers live in?
Also is it ok to travel between islands? Specially since Lemon Lime had a fling with a different species? Or would they have meet in the book shop?

Gladiers can move between the islands; the species just each originated on their own island, creating their differences and abilities: while they each are specialized to their own island, they can relocate and exist on the others.
Ceta live on an island mostly made of grassy meadows and forests Circini on an island of more varied terrain; grasslands, some foothills Spicae on an island that is very mountainous but also relatively forested
all of them have beaches, obviously, islands... and larger internal bodies of water would probably be most prevalent on the island of the Circini, I'd say.
Lol, they live in glades!! /bricked/ Gladiers don't have opposable thumbs, so I don't see them building structures, per se. But they are magical and clever, so I don't see why they couldn't make vines grow or weave branches together to escape the weather; caves are mostly on the island of the Spicae, but could be spread throughout.
Think less human and no technology, they are critters. Clever and magical, but critters.

I'm a pretty visual person so I think a map would be a great idea. I know that I haven't even step foot in this shop for a while and I kind of wish I had more to contribute. Sorry.

No, there will not be more bases added, sorry! Species will stay as they are, we aren't looking to add more ^_^ That was a stipulation of ownership of the shop from the artist.
The purpose of this thread is to establish what exactly we have, in regard to a story, an RP world... not to bring ruisuu and x___Doctor Ruri back to Gaia to clobber me for breaking agreements ^_~

I love the stuff already up and I had wondered about the risk factors of the different regions. XP It does spice up rp even if we don't get the quest system.
I personally love to see a map or maps of the different regions, like a general map and then more detailed maps for each region. I also like seeing a detail description because there may be some things that the map can't show or something that the rper's come up with after a map has been made.
One thing I wonder about the ghosts is do they have their own island that they originate from or do they come from the islands like the other gladiers? I would find it interesting that there is a ghost island out there that they come from and only ghosts can get to it.

I do think a map would be a good idea. It's easier to understand how big places are and where they are in relation to one another. Complimented with the detailed descriptions already in place, it's easy to see not only what the world as a whole looks like, but what each individual area is like and how they fit together.
Perhaps we could also figure out where the gateway between the Spiraglades and Gaia is located in the Spiraglades, so that those using Gaian characters to interact with Gladiers know the location their characters start at.
I also agree that the risk levels make things interesting even without the quest system. Most worlds have places that are more dangerous than others, and knowing which ones they are make it easier for RPers to choose what situations they put their characters in.

I hadn't thought of that~ perhaps when I set up an IT thread for more colorists, I can looking for a map artist as well; a small island in the middle of the three shrouded in mist... just grassy and calm, a place when gladiers bring memories of their lost could be the realm of the ghosts and the location of October events...
I would think the ghosts could also easily have haunts on the island of their origination/species.

Oh, another thought~ on second read, manga, your point about arrival brings this to mind. The first stage, the crystals: I don't dislike Ruru's idea of them being transport keys to the Glades. But how do the girls get more of them? Perhaps there is some sort of cave on each island, at the very heart, where the crystals originate? All crystals resonate with that location and that would be where Gaians arrive?

Just to toss this out - perhaps it can also be of help to figure out the current function - back when Ruisuu ran the shop, the starting stages were called "bait", and were each a magical item that the different species were naturally drawn to. Elemental water for Spicae, elemental earth for Circini, and Laille made the enchanted orbs with her magic that called the Ceta. The transportation sphere that originally took Laille to the glades was sent to them by their mother and Laille's magic activated it. They then started advertising 'adventures' outside their shop and set up a permanent gateway in a side room.
(Species also had 'rarities' back in the day, Spica>Cetus>Circinus from most to least common, as supposedly Elemental Earth was hard to come by lol) In a sense I find it amusing that Spicae still continue to be our most abundant species even though we no longer have a rarity system for them.
Now, as I said, I'm citing all this stuff just in the hopes we could perhaps use bits and pieces to help build the current setting - I personally do like both versions.
I wish I had any sort of talent in drawing maps/settings, Kia dear.. I can pretty clearly visualize in my head what kind of a world we're working with but am I actually able to translate that into any sort of lines? NOPE.
I've always figured at least a portion of the ghosts are actually dead gladiers and therefore would likely haunt the particular glades of their original species - (this may be a little hard to work with though as we colorists pick which lines a ghost gets converted on, oops) but I'm sure they also haunt/roam the 'shared' glades, which we have multiple of. I'm by no means against creating a dedicated 'ghost zone' though! It could be some sort of.. idk, ancestral grounds where both living and dead gladiers are drawn to once a year and where they may then interact, because the veil between the two planes is the thinnest at that time, at that particular place.
I personally would absolutely love the idea of some simple primitive 'culture' among the gladiers, especially ancestral worship. They could bring offerings of food items like fruit and berries to honor their ancestors..
Okay, I'm starting to ramble here, but I wanted to voice some headcanons of mine lol

I have a number of comparable elements to the original shop without even knowing the details...nifty xD
We decided at one point that gladiers speak between themselves and communicate telepathically with their bonded Gaian, yes? Or something along those lines~

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Thanks for sharing.
I would love to RP in this shop. I tried to start rping Aerith and Awakening. I still play with that storyline in my head. I just hit to many speed bumps with Gaia. Shops shutting down, shop full re-vamps of storyline. I just let Gaia disappointment kill my muse. I am willing to help this shop in anyway I can. I am thankful you have stuck through and willing to give this shop your best step forward.

Just to ask because I'm unsure about this, since they can go into different areas when they get older that aren't their own, how long can they stay in the other area? For short periods of time(minutes to a few hours?), long periods of time(hours to days?)? If they wanted to watch over another Star Chaser that is from a different area can they? Can either of them go to the others areas, could they do that? Or if they had a child that was from a different area could they stay in that area while the child grows up?
Just curious about this stuff for future rps, and I have no idea if there is something out there with this sort of information or not.
