< Talk to them. >

They look busy ...

< Talk to them!! >

Scout slowly scooted closer to the girl with the cool prosthetic leg. Well more accurate, next to the girl with the broken prosthetic leg. She could see inside the thing and it looked interesting to her mechanical mind.

"Ah ... need help?" she asked awkwardly.

Gretchen had been in the process of removing the fairing from the prosthetic with a voice over her shoulder pulled her attention upward. She tipped her head back to blink up at the girl that had approached her, then back down at the leg, features rather obviously asking how exactly the other intended to be of service. "Uh, maybe?" She sounded doubtful, but friendly.

The fairing clicked as she managed to separate the front from the back, and she pulled it away from the base and the bit where the post of prosthetic was supposed to go. There didn't seem to be any real damage done tot he hardware save for a few scuffs and scratches, the bolt sitting in the grass beside the post was missing it's head.

"Don't suppose you have a bolt on you?"

Scout shook her head. "I don't. Left my tool kit back home." She looked at the leg, interest clearly piqued.

"I could run to the infirmary perhaps ... I've heard they have tools there ..." She blinked a few times, looking around as though a bolt would magically appear.

Just a a small moment of disappointment, then a smile as the other girl offered to run to the infirmary to check. "Could you? I'd really appreciate it." The words fell out in a sugary drawl, but really, any little effort of assistance at this point was appreciated. Unless she wanted to Hop, it wasn't as if Gretchen was going anywhere without help.

She really didn't want to hop.

"Hey, what's your name?"

"Oh ..." Scout hadn't realized she hadn't given her name. She scratched the back of her head and said, "I'm Scout. Uh. Stay put ... if you don't mind."

She waved and then dashed off to the infirmary. Upon explaining the situation she was directed to one of the moon division's many tool sheds. She grabbed what she needed with the promise that she would bring it back (the attendant didn't really look like he cared but Scout was too meticulous not to).

---

Eventually she returned to Gretchen's side with a small belt of tools. It wouldn't take much. "Hey! Sorry, did I keep you long dear?"

Gretchen stay put.

Not like he had a whole lot of choice in the matter. At least not if she didn't want to crawl. In Scout's absence the Death trainee entertained herself with a game of solitaire on her phone, though she closed it and put the phone away again as the other girl came back to her.

Flashing a bright grin, Gretch shook her head. "Naw. I'm Gretchen by the way." Her gaze flicked down to the belt and the tools. Hard to tell just by the look of her, but Scout at least seemed comfortable with them.

Scout's face softened at Gretchen's smile; the girl had a beautiful grin and Scout appreciated that she wasn't too angry. Scout didn't do well with short-tempered types.

"Oh heavens I left before you could introduce yourself, I'm so sorry," she fussed, getting closer and kneeling down over Gretchen's knee like it was just another car or another bicycle or any number of things she'd fixed in her lifetime.

"Do you mind if I take a look ...?" She didn't want to touch without permission.

You didn't come much more mild mannered and friendly than the Death trainee. She was all smiles and sweetness, it was her normal state of being.

"Naw, it's alright. You came back, which I appreciate." Scout wasn't obligated to help her, she could have just left. Gretchen would have been disappointed, but that was her problem, not the other girl's.

At the question she'd give a wave of her hand in a 'help yourself' sort of way, sinking back to rest her weight on her hands again.

"Of course!" Scout pipped, almost aghast that someone would leave her there. "Why would I just leave?" She'd been slowly learning that not everyone the island was amiable, but that bad? Had Gretchen had osmething happen to her?

Seeing as Gretchen gave invitation, Scout bent over and picked up the prosthetic, looking it over a few times. "Wow ... this is amazing! I've never seen the inside of one of these before ..." Scout was, in fact, a nerd.

Gretchen shrugged, still smiling. "Might'a been pulled away. You never know." If she didn't count on everyone doing the right thing, it was much harder to be disappointed. The island had taught her that much in her short stay. Granted, not everyone was awful.

"Take your time lookin' if you want. I don't have anywhere I need to be for a bit." Besides Scout seemed like a nice girl. Gretchen was absolutely content to sit and share a conversation with her, especially if she had to the know how to repair the prosthetic.

"That ones an under-the-knee, so it's fairly simple. Compared to over-the-knee, or hip models."

Scout blinked a few times. Was this island really so fast paced? She supposed it would have been reasonable, but ... still ...

She was delighted with Gretchen's leniency, but being the daughter of a mechanic she spent no time gawking and immediately got to testing the pieces, trying to find similarities between the shapes and mechanics. "What's the difference, if you don't mind me asking?" It sounded self-explanatory, but there had to be a reason it was less complicated?

Gretchen just sat back and watched as Scout looked over the leg. An over-the-knee means a person looses their knee joint. So the prosthetic has to have that joint on it. And it can't just be like a hinge, cause it has to mimic a real knee. They're pricey, and I would imagine a lot harder to fix when they break."
