Spring Showers
Prompt 1

Solo or RP Format
Can be used toward Solo or RP req

After the frigid chill of the harsh winter had left Tendaji, it seemed that most were happy to just return to their normal routines, though the normal routine didn’t seem to be what the weather had in mind. It wasn’t long before almost everywhere noticed the way that the winter air had seemed to push precipitation onto the land in its place. Rain flowed seemingly non-stop, reaching all the areas of Tendaji, even frozen Zena saw its share of rain, though the temperatures were still much too cold to support such a thing and rain turned to hail, which froze over the ground.

The critters of Tendaji only wanted to seek shelter from their flooded homes and the wet downpour that surrounded them. They found their way into homes, huts, sheds, anywhere that could stay dry - and preferrably warm.

Water was a precious commodity in the desert. There never really seemed to be enough of the life-giving resource, and it was easily one of the most treasured resources Obans could possess. If you had water, then you had life, and if you had life, then you had power. It was as simple as that. Since it was such a rare occurrence, then, one could only imagine how the people of Oba felt with the spring rains came. This was a beautiful, albeit short-lived period, where clear, fresh water poured down from the heavens above. This was one of Khalel’s favorite times of the year, and she always looked forward to it with great anticipation.

As was to be expected, the skies began their downpours of rain overnight. When this happen, most people of the cities would tend to flock to their homes. It was one thing to deal with constant heat, blaring winds, and the rough sand that they lived around. It was another thing, entirely, to deal with a torrent of water falling down on them from above. Most Obans didn’t know how to deal with it, and they didn’t enjoy getting their clothes soaked through, either.

Khalel’s family were in this group of such people.

The entirety of her father’s household staff, as well as her stepmother, half-brother, and father, himself, all sequestered themselves inside the lavish estate. None of them were to venture outside under any circumstance, he explained. It was dangerous to go out in the rains, and who knew what kind of people lingered within the city’s streets as they poured down. Due to living in an entirely different part of the estate, however, young Khalel was seemingly exempt from such orders. She didn’t care what her father said about the rains, anyway. She was going to go out and enjoy herself, and there was no way he could stop her. He wouldn’t even know about it, anyway, since he was hiding away, safe and sound, in the confines of his home.

It was a perfect time to sneak out.

”This is fabulous,” the youngling said to herself, not even caring if anyone saw her talking to herself. “I love the rains!”

Had it been any other time she had gone out, she would have worn her robe to cover herself. However, the spring showers weren’t a normal time. With so few people in the streets, Khalel took this as a rare opportunity. She had left her home in her normal clothing, not even bothering to cover up in the slightest. What was the point on a day like today? She didn’t want to hide away under a robe! She wanted to feel the drops of rain hit her skin and cool her down. She wanted her hair and clothes to be soaked through. She wanted to feel the refreshing qualities that the water brought to her people, and boy did she! It felt fabulous, and in the back of her mind, she only wished that the rains could stay for as long as possible. Maybe then living in Oba wouldn’t be so harsh all the time.

While it appeared that Khalel was the lone person in the streets of Sulburi, she could tell that wasn’t the case entirely. Animals skittered and dashed here and there, trying their very best to get out from the rains that fell on them. Like their human counterparts, they did not seem to be very fond of getting wet. The young hybrid could only watch as she saw a pack of wards dashing out from an alley and under the awning of a merchant’s fruit stand. As she approached the fruit stand, the girl allowed herself to pause, take a moment, and count just how many of the critters that there were. Ten of them could be found hiding among the boxes of fruit, and in some ways Khalel couldn’t help but feel bad for them.

“Try and stay warm,” she told them before continuing on her way. “You wouldn’t want to catch a cold.”

Over the course of her time out of the estate she had managed to count ten more wards that had been hiding in various places. Some could be seen in storage sheds, while others sought shelter in the entryways to buildings. The young girl had spent a good few hours out of the safety of her home, and she had counted twenty in all by the time she was done. That was quite the number! Of course, she would share none of the tales of her journey with anyone at her home.

Such things would only be met with anger and hostility: she was supposed to stay inside, after all. The streets of Sulburi, even in the rains, were no place for her. It was just as well, however. Khalel was perfectly content to keep her escapades to herself, as they were her own special springtime adventure.
