Finn - First Stop

He had only a couple of stops to make that day, though he didn't know if either of his targets would be around, and he didn't feel like texting them to find out. If they were home, they were home, and if they weren't they might find their door locks picked open (the benefits of paying close attention to Ripley anytime he did it) and their gifts left on the floors of their dorm rooms, just like they had been dropped there and definitely not placed neatly in a pile.

Chel's room came first, because it was the closest. Laden down with boxes, he left three that were wrapped in bright, eye sore orange for her, again, whether or not she was around to receive them. If she was, she'd be given a typical cold smile, nothing out of the norm from him, and a "Happy belated Birthday." Before he would go along his way.

If she ever deemed the gifts safe enough to open, she would find in one a pair of bookends, which he did not for one second believe would actually be used for books, but hoped instead she could use them for whatever video game collection she had. In the next box, a lunch box that he had come across in some nerdy little shop (actually the same one he had gotten the bookends from), which of course along with the previous gift, reminded him a lot of her. He didn't even know if she liked the game associated with them both.

Still, he had tried, and he hoped she enjoyed them both. Birthdays and their gifts were just one of those things that he actually took seriously.

The third and final gift that he had left for her were a pair of shoes, the soles of which lit up bright pink while walking.

These also reminded him of her and the purchase really couldn't have been helped. He wondered idly, when he dropped them off, if she'd ever bother to wear them or if they were just a gigantic waste of his money.

He told himself that for next year, he would do more research on what kind of thing she would actually like instead of all of this guess work. It actually rankled on him quite a bit that she might not appreciate a single thing that he had gotten for her.

Lydia

She was back but she didn't know for how long. Her time on the outpost that had lasted for a month had left Lydia feeling...different then she had been previously. Certainly it didn't help that she'd had no way to contact her friends while she'd been there, cell service sporadic and best and non-existent for the most part. She'd had no idea, until the time that she returned, that Chris was even still alive, and that alone might have been her breaking point, both anger and relief welling up inside of her until she felt like she might explode.

She'd grieved, for a very long time, and it had been for nothing. She was happy he was alive, of course, but felt incredibly hurt as well, for reasons she couldn't explain. It was as if she had been deceived, like the entire thing had just been some big, elaborate hoax. She knew that Chris would never do that, but still, the feelings remained for quite some time.

To distract herself, she focused on what else she had missed while she was gone. Valentines day. It was a day that was not just meant for love, in her eyes, but for friendship as well. And she had at least one special friend in particular that she had wanted to give something to, and had been incredibly excited to see again.

Except she was to be incredibly disappointed instead by the fact that he was apparently still off island as well. She didn't know if he had cell service, but she did, so upon coming upon the knowledge he was away, she fired off a text and hoped that he received it.

Text to Arorangi: Hi! I hope your mission is going well. I just got back and was hoping to see you, but you were gone sad But that's okay! I just wanted to let you know I have something for you, so when you get back, I would be delighted if you would come and see me!

The text sent, she looked back up to his room door and let out a sad sigh. Turning, she backed up to the wall and sunk down to the floor, he knees up with her arms curled around them, and her forehead resting atop while her cell phone remained clutched in one hand.

Maybe, just maybe, he would get back today. Maybe if she waited here, she would only get to see him all the sooner.
