Having deemed the heart-shaped portal an innocent enough diversion once he'd had a chance to catch his breath and look back at his experience, the boil floated on to the next one he heard about, a towering mass of chocolate that glistened in the thin winter sun. Though he had no desire to partake, Lyle was familiar enough with chocolate. He was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be so shiny. The ghost hung back, watching a handful of students enter, each one running their tongue over the portal's edge. Long tongues, stubby tongues, split tongues, even one striped purple and pink like a cheshire's tail. He shuddered then swallowed, an odd mix of revulsion and the exact opposite of revulsion coursing through him for the briefest of moments. Hm.
With a slow blink and a minuscule lift of his shoulders, Lyle moved forward after them and passed into his second portal.

He was yanked out of the air rather forcefully, dragged down into a pool of brown sludge that Lyle quickly identified as chocolate as well, though definitely a more liquid variety. He recalled eating chocolate, not bathing in it. The boil tried to float out of his predicament, but he still lacked the ability to consciously coordinate his movements for the most part, so he ended up flailing messily instead.

It grew far easier to remain above the surface once he stopped trying so hard to do so, and Lyle finally found himself stable enough to examine his surroundings without the threat of a chocolatey smothering. He had learned enough these past months to realize he wouldn't actually drown if he took liquids into his lungs, but that didn't mean he wanted to try.
Lyle bobbed in place, eyeing the land around him in the hope of determining the direction he needed to go and soon he was off, digging his arms strongly and frantically into the chocolate. He made it halfway to the shore before tiring himself out so thoroughly that he had to stop to catch his breath. Breath he didn't need. It was easy to forget.

Forced to catch his breath, Lyle took another look around, relieved to see that he was much closer to the ring of portals than he had been prior to his wild swim. He tried once again to ascend above it all, but every attempt went the way of his attempts to stop his heart racing. He knew neither should have affected him, he just couldn't convince his panic that was the case.

Eventually the noodliness of his arms faded to a more tolerable level of plain old weakness and Lyle swallowed his remaining discomfort, swimming rather confidently—at least from an outsider's point of view—for the shore. He levered himself and his armor up over the edge of the pool, most of him covered in a thin, swiftly hardening sheen. His hair had gathered clumps of milk chocolate goodness, leaving him looking like a fancy candy with a fuzzy, rotting core.
He was rather miserable. All he could think about was how much he wished he could be clean again, how nice it would be to blink and go from disgusting to pristine.
And then he did. Well, mostly.
Lyle's tangibility... flickered. One moment he was a slovenly, sticky mess, and the next he was sitting in one. It was still disgusting to be sure—a puddle of lumpy chocolate, and... was that blood?—but it was worlds better than being covered in it. He had made himself clean.
The boil stood quickly despite his exhaustion and tried again. He closed his eyes and thought of being mistier, dropping the dirt from his body like water from a bucket. He heard more than felt the blood around his middle fall away too, pooling at his feet this time, and marveled at his spotless armor and cape. That was definitely going to be useful.
Lyle lightly pushed off of the ground, floating toward the nearest portal home as he went intangible for the third and final time today, cleaning his boots with the power of thought.
