She had gazed on in boredom; pink eyes scanning the room as she considered the one she was to watch over and her companion drone on about topics that were of no interest to her. Petal let out a sigh and turned away from them to curl up on the counter of the kitchenette for a quick nap; the steady thump of her trainer's, Magnolia's mother's, heartbeat lulling her to slumber. Unfortunately, she didn't have the chance because it was dashed by the one with the privilege: Magnolia's Glameow, Rho. Yet, he was wide awake now, and when he hopped up onto the counter beside her, the eon straightened herself to sitting.

He kept his eyes on her for a steady second before dropping it to a claw he examined casually, turning it this was and that under the dim lighting of the hotel room. The feline's lower lip jutted out in contemplation before he said, "I hope your travel here wasn't unpleasant, miss. Coming all the way from Unova must've taken a while."

Petal allowed herself the liberty of a gentle smile at the Glameow's tone. The formality he had taken was so alien for someone who made snide remarks left and right at others. "I am doing well, Rho," she responded, getting up and stretching cattishly with a few flicks of her forked tail. "It was tiresome, but these old bones still have some strength in them. Thank you for your concern."

"And the hotel room?" He tilted his head at her. "I know it is cramped, but convincing Magnolia to take residence in another place came to no avail." Rho let out a sigh. "I know it is nothing like the manor, but I hope it is to your approval?"

Petal chuckled. "It's fine, Rho," she said, shutting her eyes. "It doesn't bother me. Not in the least. If Magnolia is comfortable, that is all that matters. On the contrary, how have you been? It has been quite some time since I've seen you, but you appear to be the same old grumpy soul." She flicked a lid open to him. "You won't make it to my age if you don't learn to calm down."

Rho huffed. "I am not angry. At least, not all of the time," he said. "I am given more than enough reason to be, though. Anyway, you're right, it has been some time. I have been all right; watching over Magnolia just as you were sent to do. My duty, though, has been quartered since she's caught so much Pokemon lately. So I've been concentrating on other things."

"Such as?"

Before Rho had a chance to respond, Sigma, Magnolia's Delcatty, joined the company of the duo by hopping up onto the kitchenette counter next to the Glameow. Sigma nuzzled the area under his jaw lovingly, but he could only turn away in miffed embarrassment before the eyes of his mother figure. Petal didn't appear phased in the least by the casual gesture; in fact, she looked amused.

"Ah, busy capturing hearts, I see," the Espeon said teasingly to him.

Rho bowed his head as Sigma exchanged glances between the eon and the feline. "Old flame?" he asked innocently to the Glameow.

He visibly retched and shoved at the Delcatty's shoulder. "No, you twit!" Rho said. "Her name's Petal — she belongs to Magnolia's mother, Ramona. Show some manners; she's older than both of us and a respected member of the Claus name."

Sigma hummed, studying Petal curiously. "I never would've guessed," he said," when she looks so young. It is a pleasure to meet you, Petal. I'm Sigma, sent in the lead of you to look over the pampered heir over there."

Petal chuckled. "My, aren't you a flatterer? It is nice to meet you as well, Sigma. I was with the lady when we came to decide to who send to the little miss. It seems we made a right choice in gifting her such a well-mannered Pokemon."

Sigma smiled. "And you call me the flatterer," he chuckled.

Rho watched on in surprise to see Petal and Sigma hit it off so well. He wasn't sure if it was because of both of their lax natures or because the Delcatty knew that if there was one Pokemon in the world he should make a good impression on, it was the Espeon Rho considered a parent to him. In fact, they seemed a little too friendly in front of him as they continued their conversation and the Glameow began to wonder if either of them were letting their conniving natures get the better of them.

Petal tilted her head at the Delcatty. "I do wonder though," she said, "How is it you came to pair with Rho? He's been such a fussy Glameow since he was a kitten; keeping that attitude of his all the way through his adolescence and even adulthood. He could never hold a friendship long. If Magnolia wasn't such an open and accepting soul, he might've been given up long ago to another. How'd he woo you or, should I say, how did you win him over?"

Sigma glanced in Rho's direction and smiled. "He won my heart the day I saw him," he said. "I thought he was a handsome feline to look upon. Too bad, no matter how much hints I dropped for the time we were together, he was completely oblivious to my advances."

Rho flushed and turned away from the two Pokemon. "Sigmaaa..." he grumbled beneath his breath as the Delcatty continued.

"It was only until one night, when Magnolia left the hotel room with her own beau there leaving both of us alone, did I actually get a chance to be forward with him and tell him what was on my mind. He took it exactly as I expected."

"With understanding grace?" Petal said.

"No," Sigma answered. "With sputters, stammers, and enough questions to make me feel like I was being interrogated."

Petal burst out with laughter. "Are you sure you have the right Glameow?" she jokingly asked. "Rho there is so stone-faced at times, for you to provoke a reaction, my, he must truly love you."

"And indeed he does," Sigma said with confidence. "He accepted my feelings, returned his own, and we've been together ever since."

"Well, I'm happy for you," Petal said. "For both of you. Knowing my little kitten found someone to settle down with just warms my heart."

"M-miss..."

"So please do take care of him, Sigma," Petal continued. "And you, Rho, make sure you treat this wonderful Delcatty fine as well."

"Of... O-of course."

The Espeon exchanged smiles with Sigma again before glancing up to the clock in the living room portion of the hotel room. "Well, it's nearing evening and there won't be much light out later on," she sighed. "I hate to cut our company so short, but I haven't my walk yet, and could use some time to stretch my legs. I'll return in the evening, so many we can chat more then, yes?"

"Sounds like a plan," Sigma replied. "See you soon, miss."

Petal dipped her head at him, dropped from the counter, and trotted off through the door after turning the knob and opening it with Psychic. Sigma watched her leave before turning back to Rho.

"She is absolutely darling," the Delcatty confessed to him. "So welcoming and comfortable to talk to. How long is she to stay with us, Rho?"

The Glameow began to dread ever feeling glee with his mother figure appearing back in his life again if it meant more embarrassment around her. "She is here to stay," he chagrinned.
