((This rp backdated to Friday the 13th))
It had been a while since he'd powered up - a whole month while in fact give or take a few days.
The decision had been a deliberate one and based on the fact that he wasn't up for much - not with his right out of commission courtesy of a Nega-General with arrows who had decided to use him as target practice.
However the cast was finally off - he had spent the morning of his 20th birthday at the hospital getting it taken off.
He probably shouldn't be powered up - after all he'd been advised to avoid doing anything too strenuous for another month but Arian hadn't been planning on doing that much - just a small bit of patrolling, nothing more.
So he'd picked up a take out hot drink - caramel latte with whipped cream - before finding somewhere secluded to power up into his alter-ego Athene.
He'd been planning to head for the park, but the chance picking up of another Order aura had had him heading towards the library instead.
It was a Knight aura and a large one and Athene only knew of one knight with that particular library and that it appeared to be in the vicinity of the library pretty much clinched it for him.
Having an Eternal Senshi's speed meant that it hadn't taken long for Athene to make it over to the library, a hope of him hoping that the older man was would be outside rather than inside the library - after all it was kind of outside library opening hours.
Athene's mind was on a quiet evening catching up with someone he both liked and respected but perhaps he should have paid better mind to the date - after all quiet nights were kind of rare at the best of times if you were powered.
Tonight was not the best of times - tonight was a Friday the 13th.

litian (It works for me! I'll play Camelot for a bit then Painite can swoop in and run off with Athene? Or something!)
It was a tall order, of course, as he could not be everywhere at all times, as much as he would like to be able to.
Tonight he was just starting his patrol, standing at the roof of the library, looking out over the city as he always did before he got to work. Maybe he was looking for a place to start. Whatever he was doing, it was routine now, and he always took this little moment to himself and his thoughts before he took to the other roof tops or the streets to start his patrol.
He felt an aura coming toward him, but it was not unfamiliar and it was not dangerous. He peered down toward the street to spot Athene trotting up to the library. Smiling, always glad to meet with a friend, he leaped from the roof and landed as lightly as a man clad in armor could do nearby.
"Good evening!"

Athene had shifted direction slightly on hearing the sound of nearby clanking, turning his steps towards the direction of where the sound had come from. "Good evening Camelot" his return smile was small, but friendly as he greeted the Royal Knight. "It's been a while" perhaps even last year a while if he remembered right given that the last time that they'd crossed paths was the day that Vespa had purified - at least Athene was pretty sure that it was. "How have things been?" He sipped at his latte as he spoke, the drink warming against the evening chill and his attention focused on the taller Knight who he considered a friend. Lithiasaur That totally works for me Lithia, sorry for having taken so long to get to this

"Things are... complicated. They could certainly be better, but I suppose they could also be worse. I know that was a circular answer to a simple question but uh... well, anyway. What about you? How are you doing?"
He thought the other looked well, and that was always a good thing. He smiled and tried to force himself to relax a little bit. It was difficult to do so, but he wanted to just focus on something else for a small moment. Was that selfish of him? There was so much danger all around, and he knew he had to be vigilant... maybe it was not the best time for taking even a small break.
His impossible sense of duty and honor always kept him at odds with himself, between what he needed and what he wanted. It was what others needed that always took priority.
He was not aware of the shadow that was watching them both. She had managed to feel his aura from a distance and powered down to follow it without him being able to sense her. It was a risk, as she could always manage to reveal her civilian identity this way, but that did not scare her. She was no one when she was powered down.
But the moment she powered up, they would know her immediately.

"Well I hope things get less complicated for you" Athene said quietly before admitting in response to Camelot's question about his health "I'm doing better" absently tugging at the end of his braid as he spoke "I don't know know if you heard about the Negaverse kidnapping people from that ball that was held to see in the New Year, but I got injured during the rescue attempt."
His voice was solemn as he continued "We managed to rescue most of those who they took, but it took a week for us to find them."
For a moment his eyes shadowed, a haunted look in their depths as he remembered the week that he, Liryn and assorted others had spent searching whilst the Negaverse tortured their fellows and the night where he had come to the horrific realisation of what youma were before he forced his thoughts away with a mental wrench that felt almost visible.
"The cast came off a couple of days ago," he managed a somewhat rueful note to his voice as he added "But I'm trying to follow the doctor's orders and take things mainly easy and it's been pretty quiet out so far."

Camelot nodded his head, frowning.
"Well, I'm glad you're doing better now," he said, with a sigh. "It's hard to follow doctor's orders, doing what we do. I get yelled at by mine, and my wife, whenever I'm hurt because I... have a very tough time staying still."
He sighed, not looking at his companion for a moment as they both got lost in their thoughts. This was her moment, and Painite moved.
She powered up in a burst of Chaos aura, teleporting immediately and appearing behind Athene. She latched on to him like a lamprey, digging her nails into his chest and wrapping her arms around him tightly.
"Hello, my new pet!" she purred, delighted. She looked at Camelot, who was shocked, but unable to move toward her because she had Athene in her arms. He knew all too well what she would do if she was given the motive.

It happened so quickly that Athene didn't have a chance to react, one moment a sudden burst of a strong chaotic aura and the next fingers digging against his chest as arms wrapped around him. He stiffened instinctively, his mind still trying to process where the heck she'd come from... And then she spoke and the half-finished latte dropped from his grip. He recognised that voice. The lid had dislodged from the cup at some point during from the fall, causing it to spill its lukewarm contents on the ground but Athene didn't notice, his attention on the woman behind him, his back rigid. It had been over two years since he had heard that voice close up - but he recognised that voice - oh god did he recognise that voice. "Painite" his quiet voice was even quieter and his face pale as he spoke the name of the General who had tried to kill him the last time they'd met - would have killed him if not for the intervention of ********* and the unknown senshi that had saved his life at the cost of his own.

litian I can't exactly remember what we had planned ;-;
Camelot had been caught off guard, as she had not been powered up until it was too late for him to sense her. He called his shield to his hand, growling and feeling his blood run from his face as hatred boiled through his chest. He tasted bile in his throat.
No one else managed to make him feel so angry and violent so quickly, but his long history with Painite had certainly altered the way he reacted to her alone.
"Oh, I'm sure I will eventually."
Painite grinned at Camelot, though she was having a tough time containing her own hatred toward him. She reminded herself that she was here for a purpose, and that was to steal this apparent friend of the Royal Knight's, and make him suffer for his acquaintance. Seemed fair, and simple, to her!
"Come and get him, Camelot."
She teleported with Athene then, getting as much distance as she could in one teleportation. They ended up on a roof some distance away, Painite a bit dazed from the effort, but she still draped herself over him to keep him from running away.
"Alone at last," she purred into his ear, nuzzling his cheek from her position behind him, "now the fun can begin."

Surprise and shock had kept him frozen as Camelot told Painite - no more like ordered Painite to let him go - the Royal Knight's normally gentle voice angry - angrier than Athene had ever heard him. Painite responded and although he couldn't see the smile he could hear the mocking note in her voice as she told Camelot to come and get him even as their surroundings shifted in the way that he experienced exactly once before. That the last time had been in the not fun house, back during the rescue attempt to take back those that the Negaverse had taken at New Year's didn't make the experience this time round any less unexpected and disorientating as his surroundings finally settled into a rooftop. Had he been expecting to see Painite again? Perhaps - but not like this. Not alone and on his own like he'd been on that night as she spoke to him in the sickly-sweet voice that he had never forgotten - one that had haunted his nightmares... He couldn't help but flinch as she nuzzled his cheek, the gesture downright creepy, especially as he'd experienced Painite's idea of 'fun' before - still carried the scars from it - both the permanent physical one and the mental ones... My question to you is... did you try your hardest in that fight? And... will you remember and be grateful for the gift that was bestowed upon you by your fallen comrade? Unbidden he found himself suddenly recalling the question that ********* had asked him when he had finally sought her out to apologise for not being strong enough - for not saving the senshi that had helped her save him and had paid for it with his life. He hadn't forgotten what the other senshi had done - he wouldn't forget - and whilst a part of him was even now still terrified of Painite he also wasn't going to let the unknown senshi's sacrifice go without a fight. It was with that thought topmost that he told her quietly "I'll pass thanks" even as he tried to stamp down on her foot with every ounce of his strength as an eternal senshi.

Painite watched him with an almost serene look on her face. He was one of her favorite toys, and she was delighted to have a chance to play with him again. The fact that it would also infuriate Camelot only made her feel better about the whole thing.
It was a win win situation for her.
Painite had no intention of letting him leave, this time. She was going to make sure Camelot understood that he was not allowed to have any friends, any family: they were all targets to her. It just added to the fun that this target ended up being someone she had unfinished business with. Two birds with one stone, or so they said. Except she did not deal in stones. Just a spear.
But the saying still worked.
"Oi!" She let him go when he pulled her from her thoughts by stomping on her food. Did something crack? He better not have hurt her foot! She let him retreat from her a bit, though, since he had very few options of escape at the moment, and she could catch him if he tried. Calling her spear to her hand, she growled. "Alright, you want to take things right to the difficult setting. That's fine by me. Time to die, my little friend! I'll make sure they find your body, if that's any consolation."

Stamping on her foot had worked in that it had freed him from Painite's grip and Athene had wasted no time in using the opportunity to put some distance between them. He didn't tried to run though - knew that running would be pointless given their current location. Besides it would mean having to turn his back on Painite - and no sane Order person did that - given that she had a spear and was quite willing to use it. So instead he watched her quietly, his eyes wary beneath his glasses as he tried to weigh his options. That he was going to have to try and fight her was clear and that he was going to have to try and do it on his own was even more clear - after all he didn't think she was going to wait and let him call for back up on his phone. But could he win? His gaze shifted to the spear that she had called to his hand, actually he'd rather that she didn't take it to the 'difficult' setting thank you very much. He left the words unspoken - knew that it would matter - that now as then she would listen. wasn't sure Could he win? Actually he wasn't sure, didn't think so - but he wasn't going to let that fact stop him from doing what he hadn't on the night that he had upgraded to eternal - this time he was going to try his hardest. It was on that note that he shifted forward on the attack and dashed forward whilst all the while doing his best to keep his attention on Painite's spear... Because in order to use that spear efficiently then she had to have him at a distance.

"Look at you!" Painite hollered in delight as the senshi charged at her instead of taking a chance and running for it. Maybe he knew that it was pointless to run, or maybe he had just gotten brave over this long war. Whatever it was, she was delighted to see it, if only because it meant a bit of fun for her.
She was familiar with this tactic. Running in close, trying to get her spear from her or just rendering it useless by being too close. It was a good choice, but Painite had not gotten this far with a glaring weakness like that.
At least, not without learning how to deal with it.
She teleported, using her own favorite tactic, but instead of appearing behind him she just gave herself a bit more distance, teleporting back a few feet so instead of running into her, he was suddenly faced with running into her spear. Which she stabbed forward as she lunged to meet him.

Athene tried not to think on the way that Painite sounded way too happy as she crowed at him - way, way too happy. Instead he tried to focus on trying to grab the spear - or at least close the distance between them enough so that it prevented her from using it efficiently. It had worked on the General at the Zoo on the night that he had first found out what Ate had become - hopefully... He wasn't expecting Painite to suddenly teleport. Perhaps he should have - after Generals like Captains could teleport - he knew they could teleport... And suddenly he was being faced with a spear stabbing forwards towards him. His momentum forwards was enough that he couldn't just stop - especially not with Painite lunging forwards to meet him - and so Athene tried to instead to shift instead so that he was no longer dead on, fear a metallic taste in the back of his throat. He was partially successful - he didn't end up spitting himself on her spear. However neither did he completely escape it's wickedly sharp edge - a yelp escaping him at the white hot flash of pain as it sliced through layers of fabric to bite into flesh, blood welling to stain fabric in its wake. It had done something else - it had put him within closer reach - the self same fear coating the back of his throat causing him to try and make a somewhat desperate grab for the the spear.

Painite watched him with a look of pure delight on her face, though she was slightly disheartened to see he was able to alter his path enough to save himself from her spear. She did slice him open a bit, which was a good enough compromise for now, but she was not satisfied with the blood stain that was forming on his lovely outfit.
It could be so much bigger than that!
"I don't like it when people touch my things," Painite said sternly, her voice dropping to just above a whisper as he clung to her weapon. So many of them tried to do the same thing, as if holding on to it would save them from her using it against them. It would not.
It only made her angrier with them.
Before she could banish the spear and call it back to her hand to launch another stabbing attack, a burst of a powerful aura hit her like a truck. That damn Royal Knight had found them. She moved faster, but he was already leaping over to them, moving like a bat out of hell.
"Terra Viridis Crystal Power!"
A burst of green light exploded from the front of his shield and engulfed Painite, sending her recoiling away from Athene with a miserable screech of pain. It was like every nerve ending suddenly lit up, as if on fire, and she almost stumbled off the side of the building in her distraction because of it. The light, and the pain it caused, washed harmlessly over Athene, as Camelot moved to his side.
He stopped beside Athene, offering him support, though the look on Camelot's face was one of pain and anger mixed together.
"Are you alright?"

He had managed to catch part of the shaft Painite's spear in that desperate grab and Athene clung to it with all the strength he could manage, even as the creepy look of delight on Painite's face (that had been almost as creepy as the earlier cheek nuzzling) faded to a stern expression. Athene said nothing, he already knew from experience - bitter experience - that there wasn't any point trying to talk or reason with her. After all how did you reason with someone when the only thing they were interested in was hurting you and your friends? With someone who took so much pleasure in hurting people just because they could? They were at a stalemate though - at least for the moment, although Athene knew that he couldn't keep holding onto the shaft of Painite's spear indefinitely. Or so Athene thought, it not having occurred to him that they weren't really at 'stalemate' at all - that all Painite needed to do was banish and re-summon her weapon... Nor would he find out how close Painite had been to actually doing so as a familiar voice called out the words Terra Viridis Crystal Power and a burst of green light engulfed Painite and knocked her away, the momentum enough to tear the spear haft from his grip or perhaps it was relief. Either way he managed to tilt his head to look at Camelot as the Royal Knight stopped by him and even managed a small nod at the older man's question, although the wan expression on face, a side effect of the fear-laced adrenaline starting to wear off, rather belied it. "I'll live" he said quietly. "She's done worse." It had not occurred to him that perhaps he shouldn't entirely assume that Painite was down and gone. Maybe he should have. Lithiasaur Wasn't sure how you want to have Painite do the final stab thing to Athene, but if she aims for Camelot then I can have Athene intercept if that works
