Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

The last time Zeke had attempted the Sun run Ever had been with him, and the Life had proven to be something of a distraction for the Mist. Unintentionally, of course(at least so far as Zeke knew), but the effect was the same regardless. Zeke had been swarmed right off the jump. Not once. No, It had happened twice. Embarrassing, yes. It was time to give the course another attempt, and this time, hopefully, he'd make it through the damn thing. Or at the very least past the threshold. Lagertha was in his hands as the doors opened, and just like last time, the shadowlings began swarming before he could take so much as a single step beyond the doors that closed at his back. This time around he was ready for it. The sharp edge of his weapon cut through the little bastards as smoothly as knife through butter. Four of them dissipated in a single swipe as they jumped at him, and Zeke headed inside, determined. Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 4 Total Shadowlings taken out: 4 Recoveries left: 0

Progress. Maybe he would have tried this on his own sooner, but his attempt to take on the Life course on his own had proven utterly disastrous, to say the least. It had made him a little leery of training courses on a whole, but enough goading from Lagertha and eventually the man caved. Not graciously, mind, but the results were the same. At least on this sort of thing, it cost him nothing to try again. Except possibly more bruising to his pride, but that was generally pretty bullet proof. The man didn't have much shame. A daring shadowling lunged at his foot and the Mist punted it, sending it screaming right into two of it's ugly little friends. Zeke couldn't help a satisfied smirk as all three of them disappeared into wisps of fear. A temporary death, but all the same. { Good, Boil.} The valkyrie sounded pleased, excited. A touch more than was usual for his spirited partner. Any time Zeke bent to the reaper's will you could hear the smugness in every word that breathed through his mind. Her tone taking on the purring vibrato as a cat. The Mist rolled his eyes, smacking an advancing shadowling with the chain that connected the handles of his weapons. It vanished in a puff of fear and three more rushed in to replace it, clambering at his pant legs with sharp little claws prickling at his thighs. It was more annoying than actually painful. Another strong kick dislodged the squealing pests, and he sent them into oblivion with a hard swing of an axe. Status Wave: 3 Attack Dmg: 4 Total Shadowlings taken out: 11 Recoveries left: 0

Things were going so much better this time around. Zeke didn't want to jinx it, but a lack of distractions seemed to be the way to go, at least here. There was nowhere for his eyes to wander, no snarky comments to pull at his focus. Even Lagertha was keeping her metaphorical distance, lingering at the back of his mind. Watching, but not interfering. Swinging his axes, the Mist took out another five of the squealing little beasts. Dissipating fear swirling up around him. This was actually kind of cathartic in a way. The Mist didn't have much to be annoyed about, but what limited aggression he had was easily taken out on the writhing, chattering bodies that swarmed around his feet and attempted to crawl up his legs. He could see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it was bright. Just a little more, a little further, a few more dead shadowlings. Another beastly little monster went flying with a well aimed kick, and it bounced hard off another one, making them both explode into wisping shadows with panicked, chittering little squeals. A third was taken care of with a hard clip of his elbow as it jumped at his face. Zeke was doing leaps and bonds better this time a round then he had the fist time he'd been here. After the marathon fail-fest with the Life course, a little victory felt pretty damn good. Status Wave: 5 Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 19 Recoveries left: 0

Without anything to distract him, this was pretty easy. Zeke sent another two shadowlings screaming into oblivion with a wide, arcing sweep of an ax. Status Wave: 6 Attack Dmg: 2 Total Shadowlings taken out: 21 Recoveries left: 0

A little too much confidence, a little too many shadowlings, and Zeke went down. But hey, he'd had a good run. Status Wave: 98 Attack Dmg: Total Shadowlings taken out: 28 Recoveries left: 0
