WE ARE HALLOWEEN Life Hunter BATTLE ARENA General Information The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.
Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.
If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...
If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.
Group Play Playing in a group on any course means certain things can be shifted to make it a better experience for multiple people without holding anyone back. An approved group play alteration for the life arena goes as follows: When someone knocks the tower down, they are shot with a weaker dart. They will wake up 5 minutes later, the game can be reset back to the point before it fell by placing their hands on the table and saying the word, constructum. This allows them to start again where they left off instead of the beginning. They can take up to three of these darts before passing out for an hour, the game will not reset for them and they will need to try again from the beginning.
Mechanics - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.
- you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)
Round 1
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 1 Trainee Roll: 1d10 Life Trainee Roll: 1d12 Hunter Roll: 1d12 Life Hunter Roll: 1d20

Round 4

Harley had requested he meet her at the entrance to the Life course, and that was where she would find him. Shoulders against the wall, head tipped back, he was blowing smoke rings up into the sky with the last dredges of smoke from the cigarette hanging limply from his fingers. It wasn't a vice he turned to often, but bored, or annoyed, if he had nothing else to keep his attention, that was usually where he ended up.

When Oliver arrived at the Life division training course, he didn't know the request made to him was the same as that of the other young man already hanging around at the entrance. It wasn't a trainee Oliver knew, which only added to the intimidation he felt as he tried to find another unobtrusive place to wait. There were not many places to wait. The nervous kid settled for waiting in the middle of the room, sorting miscellaneous items from one coat pocket to another while smoke rings drifted over his head.

"ZEKE, OLLIE!" Harley yelled from the hallway, half jogging her way into the room with a slender arm waving above her head. Oliver was the first one treated to a pouncing, clutching hug; if Zeke hadn't been there, it would have been longer. But as it were, holding to the count of three before releasing him seemed to be the way it went, and a moment later she was wandering to Zeke to give him the same treatment. Three second, squeezing hugs.
"Glad you two could make it! Zeke, this is Oliver, Ollie, this is Ezekiel." She gestured to each man where appropriate, and then spun on her heel to look at the entrance of the life course, peering down into the depths. Then, grabbing the hands of both the boys, she started down the steps to the room with the table, making small talk the whole way about the creepy steps and the really strange water smell - a scent that was quickly placed when she saw the moat.
She kind of wanted to go swimming.
But she did not. Instead, she released their hands, and went to grab a table.
"Jenga! This is exciting. Ready to play, gents?"

A curious eye followed the short young man as he approached and took up post against a different wall. Not unusual in and of itself, but he seemed incredibly nervous, fidgety. Sorting items from one pocket into another as if her was determined to keep his attention down and now wandering. Zeke was fairly certain he'd seen him before, in the infirmary, running around playing go-for for any higher ranked hunter that needed him. Probably his name had come up before, but Ezekiel couldn't recall it. He blinked as Harley's voice rose up to hail him--them--and an easy smile stretched along features as he snuffed out the end of his smoke and slipped the half finished cigarette back into his pocket. "Hey gorgeous." Patiently he'd wait for her to great the smaller trainee, Oliver, then return the embrace in full when she got to him. In fact, he'd straighten up enough ti pick her right off her feet for a second or two before setting her down so she could make introductions. "Nice to meet you Oliver." That remained to be seen, but he was fairly confident he'd never have to worry about the kid popping an attitude at him. Zeke could have warmed them what they'd find, but he preferred to watch their reactions as they entered the large room with the moat--laser equipped death fish and all--and it's square, stone table. A rather simple looking game a Jenga was stacked exactly in the center. "Ready when you are, sweetheart." He didn't sound enthused, but then again, the last time Zeke's experiences with the Life course were not exactly good ones.

Oliver should have been prepared, but he was not. At the sound of Harley's voice he jumped visibly, but at least he took the big hug with some grace. "Um, h-hi," he stammered through the hug, blushing and fidgeting when she let go. Somehow he managed to glance up for the introductions, timidly providing another little "Hello" before being dragged quite abruptly into the room. He had never been in this training course yet, but already he didn't like it. The monsters in the water outside were bad enough, why did they need different monsters for inside? Harley's babbling was a pleasant enough background, and gave him no opportunity to interrupt with an excuse to leave. Taking his own seat at the small table, the kid gave Zeke a quick glance from under his bangs. He seemed to be on really good terms with Harley, so he couldn't be all that bad, right? Besides, he seemed to be just as thrilled to start as Oliver was. That was to say, not very thrilled at all. "I-I'm good," he squeaked, sounding exactly the opposite but at least willing to give it a try.

Harley gave a short cry of delight as Zeke swept her off her feet for those two fun, weightless seconds. She was just as happy to be back on her feet, because it meant she was able to drag two of her favourite boys down the stairs with her.
The slight tension in the room - the one mostly centred around Oliver - was lost on her as she sized up the jenga tower that resided in the exact middle of the table.
"Alright! I'll start, then." She hummed thoughtfully, and poked at some of the pieces in quick little jabs, pulling free the loosest one she could find, and stacking it on the very top. "So! How are you two? Doing okay? What is neeew?" Idle talk; Hattie was pretty bad at it.

As much as Zeke did not like this place for many reasons, he sank down onto one of the stone benches and propped his elbows up on the table, hands clasped together loosely. "Same old, " he answered mildly, answer Harley's question with a turn of his head and a quick smile. "Did you ever get that hamburger you wanted?" He could have been curious about that specifically, or he could have been asking subtly if she'd ever made it to the aquarium. After Harley had placed her piece Zeke reached out and nudged one free so he could pull it out slowly and place it on the top of the stack. Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 1 Total Points: 1

Oliver selected a piece from the bottom, easily sliding it out of the middle and placing it gently on top. Putting a task in front of him was a nice distraction from the more intimidating job of socializing. Zeke seemed to be doing a good job of carrying on conversation, so Oliver made a little noise of affirmation at Hattie's broad question and left it at that. Besides, talk about hamburgers sounded much more pleasant than his endless shifts in the labs and the outcomes of the most recent data analysis. Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 1 Total Points: 1

"You know? I did!" Harley squeaked out at the question, keeping her arms and hands to herself in an attempt to not shake the table and ruin all their chances at this game. "It was <******** delicious." She heaved a heavy sigh of longing, gazing off into the distance as though waiting for some long lost to come back to her.
"The Aquarium was pretty badass too! They had a blue ring octopus there, it was apparently a new thing? But it was so cute! I missed the feeding times for the sharks though, so I was a little bummed about that." Zeke hadn't even needed to ask about the aquarium to hear about it; Harley was nothing short of a chatterbox, especially when she knew it was a topic that the majority of her current companions shared. Besides, she somehow thought Oliver would be the type to find it interesting, too.
As she spoke excitedly, she reached out, poking a piece free and stacked it on top without a second thought; she probably wasn't even really looking at what she was doing, either.
"But next time, though! We'll have to pick a huge one to go to." She grinned at Zeke, rather excited for the idea of going to another aquarium with someone who actually appreciated it. Oliver's silence however, was not only noted, but then forcibly removed:
"What've you been up to, Ollie? Go off-island at all recently?"

"Good, glad it was everything you hoped and dreamed it would be." It seemed as though she'd had a great time on her leave, and Zeke found himself smiling, happy for her. She was a nice girl, easy to get along with, with similar interests, and certainly it didn't hurt that she was easy on the eyes. A brief glance was turned towards Oliver, but the young man didn't appear all that interested in talking. Lucky for him Harley was there, it meant the girl was claiming the majority of Zeke's attention, and he had no reason to go poking around at the kid. For now. "I agree. I'll give it some thought, and get back to you when I figure out somewhere to go. The bigger the better." He fell quiet as Harley tried to engage their third, turning his attention instead to the tower. A piece was selected and freed up easily, and he set it on top of the tower before folding his hands on the table once more, attention on his other two companions. Despite his nervous silence, Oliver couldn't help but smile as Hattie talked about her adventures. She was always able to fill up a room with chatter, and in a way it was reassuring being around someone who talked enough for both of them. He shook his head, examining the jenga tower with some thought. "I-I keep forgetting to um, book time," came his quiet reply, a little less timid while his attention was focused. "Do you think there are any aquariums in Chicago?" Finally he found a piece that seemed loose enough, and with the tip of his tongue sticking out ever so slightly, he pulled it free and set it on the top of the tower. "I look forward do it." Hattie grinned Zeke, resting her chin on her entwined fingers. She watched him over the tower, her mind elsewhere and the smile on her lips, until she pulled the conversation to Oliver, and so too did her gaze wander over to him.
"What! Ollie, that's not cool!" She whined for him. "Do I need to hound you every month? Because I can." And the I will was suggested. "There is at least one, I think! Called...Shedd? Or something like that. Why? Are you going to Chicago soon?" He couldn't have been from there, after all; he would know, if he was.
As she spoke she unravelled her hands to take her turn, poking at pieces here and there; this time she had a little more difficulty in grabbing a piece, and when she found one, she placed it on the top.

"The Shedd aquarium is in Chicago, yes." Zeke's gaze slid to Oliver, as if the kid had finally said something of interest, and really he had. Anyone that showed even the slightest interest in ocean life and aquariums was worth paying at least some measure of attention to. "I haven't been there personally, but I know folks who have, and they say it's really nice." Harley was reaching for a piece and Zeke's attention drifted back to her, watching intently for any wobble and tip, but she managed to free it, placing it on the top. The thought occurred to him that he'd placed himself in the company of someone every bit as devious as Paige, and that could potentially end badly, again, unless Oliver played the voice of reason. And that just didn't seem likely. He waited for her hands to withdraw again before reaching for a peace of his own. It slid easily from the side, and he drew it free slowly and settled it on the top, giving it a gentle tap to slid it into place beside Harley's. Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 3 Total Points: 3
