Dad was busy doing his thing with the newspapers and the photographers, and Izzy had just been cut loose from his side. After a few questions, mostly about her schooling and where her dada was, she escaped, prowling the halls instead and trying mightily to look like she belonged. The nice thing about your father only being a city councilman was that hardly anyone recognized you or him in a city this size; eventually, though, she circled the same ward too many times and had to actually duck into one of the rooms.

Unfortunately, it was occupied. "Hi," she said, and she leaned out hte door to look at the nametag. Xanthus Goldman. Well, she supposed she was named after a brand of scotch, so... could she really judge anyone who had a weird name? She flounced into the chair besides his bed and eyed the grown man critically. "I'm Islay Conrad," she said. "But you can call me Izzy. 'Cause you won't pronounce my name right in a bit, I promise."

Xanthus Goldman had been on the list of names that her father had gotten from the police chief. She frowned. "The weirdos from the ball got you, huh," she asked, sympathetically. "I'm sorry. That must have been really scary. But if it helps, I'm a superhero, and I'll try to make sure it can't happen again." She didn't actually become Colchis of Mars, but she showed him her ring, the one with the eye on it. "Promise."

With very little else to do between stints of overbearing people monitoring his recovery and mobility, Xanthus had been caught in a sort of half daze of trying to get comfortable and find something to fall asleep to on the television, so having someone pop into his room unexpectedly... someone who was not a nurse...and someone who before he could even manage to shake off that half asleep state (damn he was slipping...) and ask some version of Can I help you was waggling a signet ring under his nose and declaring herself a Super Hero.

"...Hi?" He glanced down at the ring, then back at her, trying to decide how he felt about the entire thing. This unexpected introduction to another knight. "...Xanthus Goldman." He added, still trying to make heads or tails of this unique introduction, and how to politely point out the flaw in her bold assertion without obliterating her enthusiasm. Of course maybe just... returning the favor would give her an hint, though this was also risky.

"...Ambitious plan you've got there." He added, raising hand to display a glimpse of his own ring and it's intricate circular labyrinth. It still hung a little more loosely on his finger than he would have liked. Not enough to loose, but enough he had developed an half conscious habit of spinning it. "How are you planning on pulling that off?"

He kind of envied her enthusiasm. He remembered his own zeal to stand up as an example of successful purification, purification that stuck with it, and felt like his confidence in being that loud and bold had been shaken, and he hated to admit it, even faced with the unshakable enthusiasm of this young lady.

"I don't know," said Islay, "I haven't done enough research to make anything even like a plan." Plus, who was to say that Astrophyllite would even cooperate with any plan Islay did come up with? She grabbed on to Xanthus's hand and scrutinized the ring. "Ours look different," she announced. He had a circle-y pattern, but both of them had the symbol for Mars. So they were probably both from the same planet. Eventually, she should probably go see her Wonder. She'd gotten her signet from a box of her mother's possessions that the state had mailed her.

She tossed her hair hair over her shoulder and let his hand go. "Just because I don't know yet doesn't mean that I won't try," she said. "It's pretty obvious that they're causing problems, isn't it? They still haven't found everyone who went missing." There'd been a documentary, a loooong time ago, about how the senshi were evil--but her dad said that it'd been the senshi who had been trying to defend people. So that was a strike on the Negaverse, to be honest. It was just a good thing she'd had to stay home. "I mean, the police. Not the... whoever they are." Astrophyllite never had given her a name...

With a dramatic sigh, she flopped back in her chair. "It's haaard to find other people, though," she said. "I go out like, every night that my dad says it's okay. And nothing! I thought for sure I'd at least meet some of those monsters everyone talks about, but not one. I still think they're lying." She narrowed her eyes at Xanthus. "Have you seen the monsters? Or are they all just people?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 16, 2015 5:37 am

"...There are monsters that used to be people until chaos shattered their starseeds, and then there are monsters that look like people." He answered, dropping his hand to his lap as she let it go. "They aren't going to find all if them. The negaverse took some of them, either dead or corrupt."

He pinched the bridge of his nose as he realized just how dire and self defeating this sounded and hastily added.

"Sorry, I'm not saying don't try, just that the Negaverse is dangerous. They've gotten stronger, darker. No that's not true they were always dark, but they've stepped up their game. It's more than just child kings playing at murder and conquest and pulling strings. I mean... there's... there are people that can be saved, but you have to remember the monsters are in there too, and the ones I saw wouldn't hesitate to smile and pretend to be your friend just long enough to pull your star seed out."

"There's a lot of other senshi and knights, have you tried tracking power signals?" He offered. He was stuck here for now after all. I won't be armoring up until I'm discharged but I know a Squire of Mars who's a close friend, an couple Earth Knight and some Mercury knights as well. I can try and talk to someone about meeting with you, but i need your other name to contact you with this." He gestured with the ring again, tiredly. "And if you haven't, you should see Mistral. She can upgrade the ring."

Just don't ask about how much that cost us. But if it saves more lives... what are you, girl? A Page at best?

<********. Were Kerberos and Titan still alive? Had they been caught? He really needed to get the ******** out of here.

He didn't have to be such a negative Nancy about it, she thought, crossing her legs up on the chair. Astrophyllite was different, she was sweet and good and she hadn't wanted to hurt Islay at all. The only reason she'd lifted her weapon in the first place was just because she was confused, or something. But she liked Astrophyllite anyway; sometimes people made mistakes, that was all.

"Corrupt," she queried, because there was a lot of wordy jargon going on that she didn't quite understand. "And what's a starseed? How do I know what a power signal is?" She hadn't sensed anything, really, other than like... roving spots of discomfort and coldness. Her area of town apparently got, like, Astrophyllite and... not much else. She was, apparently, a kind of shitty superhero, but that didn't mean she couldn't work on it.

Whoever Mistral was. Islay made a mental note anyway. Contacting people with the ring... She looked at hers. "We can use these to talk," she asked, heavy shades of disbelief on her voice. It didn't sound quite right on a girl her age. "Mr. Goldman, I got this in a box of stuff from my mom. I don't think it's like, weird microchip future phone technology." But maybe it was. "But you know more about this than me. What do you mean?"

"It's not microchips, it's magic." He almost laughed, not at her but because saying that sounded so intensely surreal. "Without mistral's work you can send messages on paper, addressed to another knight or senshi and sealed with your signet and wax, but Mistral worked some sort of design to make it... much more high tech. Faster.

"Starseeds are what makes you... you. Basically they're your soul. People in the negaverse, theirs have been... for lack of a better word... infected with darkness, starts out mild, but kind of... like pouring ink on paper. It covers up parts of you, things that make you give a damn about mercy, or death. A Royal knight or a Senshi Prince or Princess can get rid of that infection, but it's at a high cost. It's extremely difficult for them, and there's a cost to the person being purified as well. You loose part of your memories, but a agent of the Negaverse can become a knight, a corrupted Senshi can become an order Senshi... unless they're too far gone."

Why was he talking about this in a hospital room anyway, except that she was a baby page and thank god she hadn't been there at the capture.

"Power signatures are easier to explain powered but, but that's not a good idea right now, it's like... you feel someone's magic, dark or light.

Ohmygod Mr. Goldman. He felt so old.

"How long since you found the ring and got your weapon?

Everything was magic. Islay frowned. That was pretty intensely nonsensical; how many papers had even been written about magic? This was probably all a bunch of hearsay anyway, but at least it was hearsay from someone who was kinda-sorta on her side, as opposed to hearsay from someone who wasn't. "Okay," she said. "So, starseed is my soul, and I can send messages on paper with my ring if I seal it with wax?" She was going to have to steal one of her parents' Fancy Dinner candles, then.

"It can be done?" She leaned forward, hands flat on the edge of his bed. "Like, even to Captains? Because I have a friend who's a Negaverse Captain, but she really hates it." If she could help make Astrophyllite not bad anymore, she was sure they'd both be a lot happier.

She frowned, tapping her chin. "I found my weapon in November," she said. "If you mean my flower branch. And I got my ring... when my mom died. It used to be hers, I guess. How long have you been a knight? Like, probably forever, right? Were you my age when you figured out who you were?"

Ouch again. probably forever??

"I would ask how old you think I am but I am pretty sure I don't want to know the answer to that question." He sighed, feeling like he was growing wrinkles and gray hair just under her investigative stare. Granted he probably still looked like a warmed over pile of dead things to some degree, and he hadn't done more than make an vague half hearted trim of the beard he'd grown being captured, but....

"it works on captains. I was a captain." He ran his fingers through his hair and regretted not making a greater effort to comb it earlier. When the hell had he gotten the demented idea that long hair was easier than getting his hair cut? UGH.

"I've been doing this for a year. Before that I was an agent like your friend and haven't made a secret of it. Which, obviously, has worked well." He added with a wry, deeply sarcastic smile. "I found my ring at my wonder after I purified. You need a royal for that, but while they're rare it's definitely not impossible. I mean... she's not part youma right? That's..." He winced, thinking of Bischophite's agony as Iris tried to purify him. "...A different issue." He didn't want to say impossible. Just... harder. Not a secret they had yet uncovered.

How old was he? That had to be, like, a trick question. Islay chewed her lip as she considered his face: unshaven, scruffy long hair... "Like thirty-two," she said. "Thirty-five, tops." Maybe he just looked so old 'cause he was sick, or maybe he actually was old. Like, he could probably drink, if he wanted to, and if he wasn't on drugs.

"No, she's not part youma," said Islay, wrinkling her nose. "She's all a person, like me, but she thinks she's bad, and she's not."

New question. Better question. "What's a wonder," she said. "And what's a royal?" How weird was all this shi--stuff? Next he was going to tell her that there were real, actual dragons, and that the people who found human footprints in the completely wrong fossil eras were actually just silenced by a government conspiracy. Or maybe not. That just sounded about as believable as anything else he'd said.

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to be talking about this here. "I mean," she said, "I could just... do the letter thing? If that'd be easier for you."

"....Twenty seven." He corrected, a bit more stiffly than he intended, but dude, ow.

"I believe you about your friend. I'll help you two find someone who can help. Wonder is where you get your name and your power, it's on whatever world you're sworn too... but yeah. Yeah this'll be easier when I get the hell out of here. Just... what neighborhood do you two usually hang out in? I'll look you up."

No sense in giving away more than they had to, already talking in a public place like this. There was still the little voice in his head that he didn't know if Schorl was somewhere in those halls. Listening.

Izzy thought about it, and then reached into her pocket. "Better idea," she said. "We rove around a lot. It's easier to not find anyone else like that, you know?" She opened up a new contact screen and filled in his name--obviously gleaned from the outside tag--and then held it out, like she honestly expected him to give her his phone number.

Which she did.

It was like asking your tutor for theirs, right? Nothing weird about it!

The downside of handling her phone was that she noticed the time. Dad would be finishing up soon, which was a bit of a bummer. She'd never met another knight before.

Xanthus blinked for a moment as he considered the wisdom of this, but he was reasonably sure he'd think of something as a cover if he needed to...

"Just careful with this, ok?"

He absolutely did not need someone's dad yelling at him because his number was in a younger girls phone.

"Don't worry," said Islay. "My dads are pretty chill." Seriously. What was he even worried about? Dad and Dada didn't know Xanthus Goldman from John Doe, unless Dada had the list of people missing after the ball memorized, which she wouldn't put past him it just also wasn't like, a high priority for her? To find out?

Either way, she wasn't going to go showing off her phone. Mr. Goldman was ancient, after all, and Islay was excited about meeting another knight but she wasn't going to go calling him to just hang out like she totally would with Astrophyllite if Astrophyllite thought it were a good idea. Also, again: old.

"I'm gonna let you sleep, or something," she said, bouncing to her feet. "It was nice to meet you, Mr. Goldman!"

"I'll take your word for it." He knew her dad from Adam, so her word was more or less all he had to go on. "I'll catch you out and about then."
