It was one of those rare instances where Lagertha's nagging had managed to drive Ezekiel out of the dorms on an afternoon off, and out onto the training field. He'd argued, of course, that given his overly full schedule as of late, any training he did wouldn't be up to her critical standards, but she'd countered. Anything was better than nothing at this point. Zeke might have been over worked and not getting enough sleep, but he was still a hunter, and he could still be forced into dangerous situations at any given moment.

It had been enough to get the mist outside, but he certainly wasn't happy about it. There hadn't even been anyone out there to challenge, so he'd had to resort to facing off against a practice dummy.

And wasn't that just dull as ******** fail to see how this is even remotely helpful.

{You need to stay fit! Too long a lull, and you will lose your egde.}

Laggy, it's a dummy. There is no edge to be gained here. What's it going to do, splinter at me?

By now Tommy's time at the training field was becoming a daily event, whenever he could squeeze the time in between duties. Today, however, was fairly lax in the duty department, so he found himself with a couple of hours more spare time then usual. After a regimen involving stretching and taking a jog around the island to loosen and warm himself up, he came to a halt outside of the training fields, which for once appeared to be nearly completely vacated.

Save for one other man who appeared to be facing off against a training dummy. Thomas watched him for a time, giving his heart rate a chance to slow as he took deep and even breaths, before he too strolled out to the training field, inwardly debating whether to do target practice against a dummy himself or whether it might be better to challenge a more lively combatant.

Eventually, the latter won out, and he found himself veering just slightly off course until he was near enough to the other to be seen out of his peripheral.

"Hello!" He called out, voice lilted with his Italian accent. "I do not suppose you would like to spar with me?"

Never hurt to ask!

Luck had him training solo for only a few moments longer before an unfamiliar voice had him pausing and turning to find the speaker. Zeke was still, fairly, new, so even among the more veteran hunters there were still some he didn't know, but this guy had the look about him that all the newer recruits held(including himself, probably). That untouched, shiny new penny look. Fresh faced, unjaded, they just hadn't seen enough yet.

The greeting was returned with a mild smile and tip of his chin. "Hey yourself. You're just in time. The training dummies are boring. No substitute for a real opponent."

Turning in full, he'd move a few paces away from the row of dummies, fingers adjusting along the handles of his axes. "You're actually doing me a favor." The nagging in his head had quieted with the offer for a real spar, Laggy preferring her partner face off against someone able to present some sort of challenge, rather than an inanimate object.

"I'm Ezekiel, by the way. Mist trainee." He might have offered a hand to shake, but they were currently full. They'd have exchange blows instead.

Thomas could agree with him there. The training dummies were quite boring. No motion save for the shudder and sway that came with every strike against them. Dull, lifeless, and ugly because of it. Not at all like the man Tommy now stood across from, who seemed so vivid and energetic in comaparison that it had the mist trainee already bouncing on his toes, a flash of blue light on his fists fading away to reveal the gauntlets that encased each, with spikes along his knuckles and small crossbows mounted on top.

It seemed that shaking hands weren't really on Thomas's mind as he gave a cheerful grin and a nod of his head. "Ah, excellent! I am so glad I will not have to train alone today." He began to move closer, preparing himself for the moment when they would begin.

"I am Thomas Giacinto." He announced, making a grand gesture with his hand before letting out a jovial laugh. "I do prefer Tommy, however. Mist trainee as well!"

Tommy was eager, this should be rather interesting. "It's nice to meet you, Tommy." The truth, for now. Zeke offered an easy smile as he sank down into a ready stance. His gaze lingered on the gauntlets, the crossbows affixed to each, before snapping back up.

Close range and long range. It hardly seemed fair.

"Come at me, bro."

Ezekiel's weapon was also given a long look as Thomas gauged how difficult it would be to fight against. It did look rather wicked, and sharp, and he wondered if the other man swung them around on that chain.....

Something he would likely find out soon, he figured, as he flashed the other man another large grin.

"It is nice to meet you as well." He said, while lifting his gauntlets, stringing each quickly and with deft movements that proved he had now done this many, many times until the motion became smooth and natural to him.

And then he began to circle, watching the other man carefully, before firing off a single electric blue bolt towards his midsection.

While Tommy circled Zeke let the handle of one axe slip from his fingers, dropping to hang from the length of chain, starting it on a slow swing with a flick of his wrist. It was tempting to make the first move, even after having offered the right to Tommy, but the desire was there, obvious in the grin on the Mist's face and the eager tension radiating from his frame.

A bolt hit, faster than he was expecting, and the force pushed him back a step. Those had the possibility of being really painful if given half the chance. He was going to have to try to avoid them..

Another flick of his wrist got the axe swinging harder into a full rotation. He let it go, sending it towards the other man to graze the blade along his arm, then yanked it back for an easy catch.

"So where are you from?" Because that wasn't your traditional american accent. Ezekiel was curious.

That axes blade looked rather wicked, especially with the way the light glinted off of it, making it's edge appear incredibly sharp. Tommy knew that his shield would protect him, of course, but it was still such a new concept to him that it made for a slightly uncomfortable, if not quite exciting feeling.

After his bolt was fired, one of Zeke's axes came hurtling his way. Thomas attempted to dodge to the side, though the blade still hit his arm, just clipping it as it sailed past.

"Ah, a great many places, to be fair, but my home for many years and the place where my mama is from, was in Italy." He smiled, not at all surprised to have been asked that particular question, as just about everyone he had met had done the same.

"And you?" He asked, before firing off a second bolt in Zeke's direction, one that curved wide and missed the other man completely.

If he could keep his attacks consistent, keep driving the other man back, maybe he could make it impossible to get a bead on him. Stay close, but not too close, keep moving, give Tommy a real challenge.

That was the plan, anyways.

Brows arched at the mention of Italy, and he gave an interested nod. "I'm from Utah, Salt Lake City. Not half so exotic as Italy, I'm afraid." Not even close. It was about as middle America as you could get. Bordering on backhole, and that was being charitable. Why his mother had left France, Ezekiel never understood.

Another swing of an ax as he came in close, making a wide arc across the other man's shoulder that only seemed to graze him. He'd meant to put up more of a challenge, but he had a tendency to let himself get distracted in spars. They just weren't real, and hearing about the backstories of the folks that had found themselves in the same current predicament.

The other man's constant movement was indeed making it rather difficult for Tommy to hit him, but he followed along anyways, lifting an arm, taking aim, and then changing his mind again and attempting to move in closer, to make it a little easier. When Ezekiel answered his question in return, he barked a laugh. "Exotic. Yes, I like that. It makes me sound much more interesting than I am sure to actually be." He was being vocally modest. Tommy actually thought of himself as a very interesting person. It wouldn't do to brag, however, or to appear to egotistical.

Getting closer had it's risks, as he soon found out with an ax swing that clipped his shoulder. "Utah...ah, I had not the time to visit there quite yet." It had not seemed like it would have been a very lucrative choice, at least, which is why he had avoided it.

Again he thought to fire off a bolt, and again, the other mans quick movements made it too difficult, though he darted forward with a hasty swing of spiked knuckles in hopes of landing a blow that way instead.

Nope.

"So than, what brought you here?" He asked, smiling and happy to keep the conversation going.

Zeke chuckled, he couldn't help it. "Save yourself the trip, there's not much there worth seeing. Except the mountains, if you're in to that sort of thing." Zeke wasn't, he preferred the ocean and everything within it. School had taken him to Florida, but he'd have headed for the coast regardless. Being landlocked was just not in the Mist's nature.

"I came here looking for answers." He'd even gotten a few, though with them had come more questions. Still, he didn't regret his decision. There hadn't been a whole lot tying him to the life he had left behind. His degree, sure, but it sounded as if he'd get a chance to put that to use here once he talked to the right people.

He darted in close again, and with the blade of one axe he'd shove the other man's arm away from him before taking a swing at him with the other.

"How about yourself? What brought you to our lovely little slice of paradise?" He was genuinely curious.

"Mountains I have seen many times before." He shrugged his shoulders, still grinning. "So perhaps I will pass on a visit, then." Not that he had actually made any plans to do so.

Since he had moved in so close, it was basically impossible to avoid being struck, and with two quick swings not only was Tommy thrown off balance, but his shield also became battered on one side, with a hit that sent him nearly toppling over, though his balance was good enough that he was able to recover.

"Ah yes, it is the same for me. Though I will miss my mama dearly, and it breaks my heart to think that she will believe me to be dead, the idea of finally having answers was far too great to pass up on." Not that he'd really gotten many of those yet, himself.

"If you want to see something amazing, pay a visit to the Florida keys." Maybe Zeke hadn't traveled enough if his opinion of amazing was limited within the borders of his home country, but maybe not. There was a huge tourist business in the keys, after all. Folks came from all over the globe.

Zeke offered a nod to the other man's reasoning. "The thirst for knowledge spreads wide and far." He flashed an easy grin. "Answers come slowly if you're just waiting to be spoon fed. I've found the library to be quite generous with it's information." Ezekiel had always been studious, that hadn't changed just because his vocation had. He'd stepped out of his pod and almost immediately headed for the nearest source of information. There were notebooks filled with personal notes and research the Mist had been accumulating since his first week on the island.

"It's not all there, of course." He continued on in his bid to stay too close for the other man to get a bead on. The gauntlets were spiked, but Zeke figured a hit from those would do less damage then a bolt. "But it's a start, and you wouldn't believe the s**t they have lining their shelves."

Dipping, Zeke ducked under one arm and pivoted to the side, bringing the round of one axe blade in against the other Mist's stomach in a solid hit.

"Is Florida not the place where parasites can swim up your nose and into your brain?" He asked, with a grin. "I am assuming we are immune to that sort of thing now, with our weapons and shields, no?" It was probably an odd comment to make, but Thomas often spoke of the first thing he thought of, and he let out a short laugh after saying it, making light of it all.

"Ah, it is probably not quite the same knowledge I am seeking. In my time as a working street performer, there were those I knew, some quite well and others in passing, that often went missing. I do not know if they are here, or if something worse became of them. I have not ah, quite gotten up the nerve to check the lists in the pod room."

Because if he looked, and the names he sought were not there, than he would lose hope. He wanted to hold onto that for a while longer. Even if just for one in particular.

"But the books would be good as well. I will have to do some reading." That was not horrible smutty romance reading. He inwardly cringed at the thought.

The hit to his stomach sent him reeling several paces back, grimacing, a bolt he'd been thinking about firing setting off on accident, veering away from it's intended target and merely grazing Zeke instead.

"Just gotta stay out of the swamps," he mused, grinning back at the other trainee. Honestly, he wasn't sure if there were or weren't brain seeking parasites, but in the time he'd spent there he hadn't seen nor heard anything about them. It was probably safe. Especially with their shields in place to keep them whole.

A thoughtful look crossed strong features as Tommy explained the sort of information he was looking for, and Zeke had to agree. It probably wasn't in the library, or anywhere else just laying out in the open. That seemed the sort of thing a person had to go hunting for, unless you felt like spending hours down in the pod room searching through the long rows.

The bolt had him jerking, though it hadn't been on target either way and merely grazed his arm in passing.

His attempted retaliation didn't do any better. A lazy swing of his axe that whistled harmlessly past Tommy's arm.

"What sort of books you looking to read? I could recommend a few things if I knew your tastes."
