Xander shuffled along trying to enjoy his day off. Currently all his time had been spent at the hospital or patrolling regardless of whether he had a shift or not. His parents were worried for him even if they understood. Today he had been forced out of the hospital for the second day in a row, though yesterday was for the obvious reason, being the first valentines day he has a real reason to celebrate.
Now he had been dragged to the mall with his sister and she was trying to spice of his wardrobe, well sort of in between flirting with every guy who dared to come there way. He was somewhat tempted to wander off, but he didn't want to wander to far. He felt it would be a little weird.
"Rose," he said as she held up a cardigan to him, "that is not going to fit in the least."
His sister rolled her eyes, "its suppose to be fitted Xander. Relax it will look professional and your girlfriend will like it. I'll never finish while your complaining like this. Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

Donovan was not an avid shopper but the day after Valentines had it's advantages for sales. He was there and had a few shopping bags in hand of some things he'd found that he liked. At first he wasn't sure he saw Xander but, no, that had to be him. It had been quite a while since he'd seen the doctor but he liked him.
"Xander?"
He moved toward the doctor and noticed he was with someone. A pretty and not under-aged person. His eyes moved immediately from his friend to his companion. They looked to be about the same age.
"Well, hello!" He smiled. "And who might you be?"
He picked up her hand and kissed it like a gentleman. He tried to balance his attention between the beautiful girl and Xander because it would be rude not to. Somehow missing the similarities between them he asked.
"Is this your girlfriend, Xander?"
He knew he had it in him!

Xander turned at his name and gave a wave when he noticed Donovan. His face however fell slightly when Donovan turned his attention on Rose. He had a very don't touch her look, but it turned into a look of absolutely incredulousness when he asked Xander if Rose was his girlfriend.
Rose grinned at him, completely enjoying the appreciation of her, but she started laughing wholeheartedly. While her brother sputtered, his eyes wide, she shook her head. "I am his sister. I think the hair, eyes, and skin a dead giveaway. We all look alike. He, Lily and I."
Xander shook his head, "thats not the least bit funny Donovan. This is my sister Rose."
Rose gave a nod and a smile, "charmed. If I would have know you would have a handsome friend show up I would have invited Cerise."

Donovan smiled though whether it was to join in with the joke or cover his own obliviousness wasn't clear. His eyes sparkled with delight and mischief which was never a particularly safe or good combination. While Xander was certainly not a prude in the way that he might define it, he certainly was not as minded toward the fairer sex as he was.
"Oh, of course she is," he responded brightly, winking at Rose as if to suggest he'd known it all along. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. It's a remarkable quality. You are very beautiful."
But out of friendship and duty he didn't continue to dote on her as he wanted to. Instead he turned his attention back to Xander and continued to smile casually. He had all the time in the world today.
"How have you been? It seems like a dog's age since I've seen you, lad!"
Though that might have been by design. Donovan was usually oblivious when he went too far in any one instance. Some people avoided him for his somewhat less than endearing qualities. Not that he would ever recognize that. His disposition did not allow for self doubt or even doubt in other's intentions unless demonstrated otherwise.
"I've recently returned from Brazil. You wouldn't believe the rain forests down there. Humid messes, of course, but striking. You should come by the apartment one day and see the pictures from the trip. Really spectacular!"

Rose was very pleased with this new friend of Xander who had very good taste, for the moment sense his attention was on her. He soon turned back to her brother though and she grinned to herself, going back to trying to pick out some more things for him. Her brother could never have been described as social, but over the last year or two that seemed to changing. Slowly, but surely.
Xander tried not to roll his eyes and frown at Donovan, but it was hard. He was probably a little who over protective of his sisters. "Yes, it has been a really long time. I'm sorry about that. I tend to get a little caught up in work. I've been okay," he said though the last part sounded a little empty.
He looked to Rose briefly, but she was happily shuffling through clothes he didn't think he would ever wear. Xander laughed lightly listening to Donovan, "I'd love to come look at the pictures, though I may not have time for a while. I can't say my life has been so exciting, busy, but not so exciting. I would have gone to England for Thanksgiving, but I've was going through trying to adopt Dessie and thought that sort of trip would be a bit much."
Rose popped over with another cardigan and held it up to Xander, who looked at it with a less than interested expression. Rose looked to Donovan, "I know men usually aren't so into clothes, but tell his girlfriend will just love it if he spices up his wardrobe a little."

"A girlfriend, really? You dog!"
He playfully hit Xander's shoulder and smiled broader, imagining that whoever she was she was probably quite lovely and rather lucky. He was certainly doing better than Donovan who had, to this point, never had a girlfriend and never really wanted one. It was better not to have ties like that in his life. He was usually traveling, rarely in one place for very long.
At least, that's what he told himself.
When Rose approached her listened and inwardly felt a shudder of solidarity pass through him. As an only child he could only imagine what excursions like this must be like.
"I'm sorry, lass, I can't." He shook his head, looking from one sibling to the other. "Any girl worth her salt would not want your brother to be anyone other than who he is, clothes and all."
He was certain of that much, at least, though he really had wanted to agree with her because she was pretty and likely meant well.
