Ice crunched beneath her paws as she made her way through the mountain pass. She had been traveling for moon turns and every bone in her body ached. She was tired but wary of stopping even for a short while, for she had to keep going south and east until she reached the land that was the home to a vast array of soquili. A slight breeze ruffled her veil, causing the colors to dance as if they really were Eirameira’s Veils. Home sickness filled the mare, she missed the Dragenijs Tribe, they were, are, her family. Life in the Land of Ice and Light had not been an easy one, for in the High Reaches it was cold year round and winter usually lasted long into summer, with only a few months without snow or ice. On the days when the sun shown through the heavens, celebrations were to be had and it was to be a day of relaxation from the chores that needed to be done in order to keep the tribe alive. Every Dragenijs had to help with a task, so Pelashia had learned how to heal, to hunt, to scour the dry frozen earth for edible plants, and she was taught to lead, for she was to be the next Chieftain when her father passed on the title to her after she did her years away from the Tribe.
The taking upon the veils was a rite of passage that each of those who wished to lead the Dragenijs had to experience. The veils were replicas of Eirameira’s Veils that appeared in the night sky in the Land of Ice and Light. Greens, blues, purples were all blended beautifully upon the fabric; it took the artisans years to perfect the veils that those who did the rite would wear.
Pelashia continued to walk, she needed to find the land in which she would live for the next few years and then she could return home. How she looked forward to that day, but there were things she must do, there was someone she must also find while she was in this new land. She prayed to Eirameira that Vestakia was in this land and that she would finally be reunited with her daughter again after all these years.
The ice beneath her paws turned to dirt and trees surrounded the mare. She blinked in surprise; she had not expected them to be so large. All the ones in the Land of Ice and Light were small little things that usually did not last a winter. But these trees, oh how magnificent they were; they had thick trunks and a large canopy of leaves that blocked out the sun. “So this is a forest. It is much more spectacular than I had imagined!” Her voice was weak from disuse but her eyes held wonder as she gazed at the vast land of trees before her. Excitement built up in the exhausted mare, she was almost there. Soon. She will be there soon. belloblossom Here are what Pelashia's Veils look like, just in case you are wondering. I am going to try to get them on her as soon as I can :}
Coloration: [1] [2]
Style: The veil is wrapped around her body in a similar fashion to the Amachi Clan's scarves. It wraps around her head and partially down her body or kinda like this mare's but Without the part on the leg

Tenzin (and Damian) Black paws padded against the hard dirt path that stretched around the borders of the Western Forest. It was one of the rare occasions that Damian had decided to join his bonded on an outing to the borders. Normally the wolf familiar would remain within the depths of the forest, where he and Tenzin called their den. Tenzin would always welcome Damian's company, but he had never tried to force the wolf into joining him. It was on days like these that Tenzin especially loved, when his familiar would come willingly, that made the draft stallion quite content. The day was a nice one in the forest, though by this time they were so close to the Western Mountains that the trees were growing further apart along the borders. There were hardly any trees on the mountains itself, as Tenzin knew from traveling often up there to visit the Springs. There were bushes, sure, but if you wanted trees, his forest was the place to be. Now, Tenzin had grown sharper and more alert to the presence of other Soquili in the past, but his hearing would be no where as good as his familiar's. The wolf had stopped suddenly and had his ears perked. After a moment of stillness, Damian turned his gaze to Tenzin and gestured with a tilt of his head in a direction where he must've heard someone. Tenzin's own ears stood straight and alert, his eyes glowing with interest. It had been a time since he'd met anyone new in his forest and he was always eager to meet new Soquili, but he had to make sure that he didn't spook whoever was nearby. With his stature, he did have the ability to scare off forest inhabitants without meaning to. Naturally, he had learned not to sneak up on anyone, but to call out to them instead. If they answered his call, he would go up to them and begin conversation, if they did not, he would still go up and greet them, but from a distance to watch their actions and see what they intended in his home. "Hello?" His voice rang out along the sparsely grown borders, "Hello, is anyone there? Be not afraid, friend. I wish you no harm."

The aurora borealis colored veils danced in the soft breeze as it whispered through the woods. It held a chill that reminded the mare of home and again a sharp pang of homesickness entered her heart. She wanted to go back, but she wanted to find her daughter even more. An echo of a voice intruded on her homesickness, drawing her back to the present. Should she call out a greeting? It would be the polite thing to do and perhaps he could help her get acquainted with this new land, “Hello, I am over here. I am not afraid, and I too wish you no harm.” Slowly and quietly on her pawed legs she made her way to where the voice had called out from. It was a stallion who possessed the coloration of wood. He was a deep brown with intricate wood grain markings. Upon his chest was a strange green symbol that had no meaning to the icy colored ursine. He was muscular like those of her herd, but lacked the paws that were so common in her land. Instead he had hooves. She had only seen hooves twice before, on the kalona that wooed her and her daughter Vestakia. They were strange things and did not allow for gripping upon the ice, poor Vestakia had a few slips because of her hooves. Pelashia had thought her daughter quite adorable in those moments. My darling Vesta, where are you?
“I am sorry if I am trespassing in your lands, this forest is the only way into the land that I seek. I have traveled far and yet still have a long way ahead of me.” She bowed her head, “I am Pelashia of the Dragenijs, Daughter of the Chieftain Hyandur and the Great Healer Keirasti. I have dawned Eiramiera’s Veils in order to gain the strength and wisdom to lead the Dragenijs and also to find my daughter.” The mare looked at the stallion expectantly, she had given him all the information that she had seemed important and perhaps that was not the way things were done in this new land. She would learn and she would adapt, she had to, for her desire to become a reality.

Tenzin (and Damian) The other replied with a voice that was clear and undoubtedly female. He heard her approaching with the thudding of... well now, that was odd. It didn't sound as though she had hooves, but what else if not--
"Tenzin, look! She's got paws!" Came the shocked gasp of Damian from underneath him. Directing his gaze briefly to the mare's feet, he found that there were, in fact, paws in the place of hooves. He hadn't come across a pawed Soquili before and unlike Damian's paws, these seemed to take on a bear-like quality. How peculiar.
Keeping in mind that it wasn't polite to stare, Tenzin raised his eyes to meet the light brown gaze of the pale blue mare. She was adorned with veils about her body, which were quite beautiful to look upon, but it were her words that he was most focused on and he replied kindly. "Worry not, traveler, for you do not trespass, so long as you wish no ill will upon this forest. It is home to many, not just I and I welcome you to it." When she introduced herself, his ears twitched at the name. It was long and complex, he wasn't sure if he could re-pronounce it, or even remember have the string of words which she supplied. By the time that she finished and looked expectantly at Tenzin he found himself at a loss for words. Luckily, his familiar came to the rescue.
"Greetings, I'm Damian and this is Tenzin." Tenzin nodded after this and was going to speak, only for Damian to continue with a prompt question, "Does everyone where you come from have paws like yours?"

At the little wolf’s words the mare looked down at her icy blue paws, she had forgotten that not all had paws. Vestakia’s father had hooves, but he had been so different than anything Pelashia had ever seen before and believed him to be unlike the rest of those in the world. It was a naïve thought, but she had been young then and infatuated with the red kalona. The Ursine mare smiled at Tenzin and his wolf companion, “It is a pleasure to meet you both. And thank you for letting me pass, I do not wish harm upon the forest. This is actually the first forest I have ever seen, I have heard stories of course, but they pale in comparison to the majesty before me.” Pelashia turned her attention to the wolf, “Yes, everyone in the Land of Ice and Light have paws. It made surviving the harsh winters easier and gripping the ice an easier task. Are there not many here who have paws instead of…hooves?” It had taken her a moment to remember the word; it was so strange to her but yet normal to those who she now conversed. “What is this land known as?”

Tenzin (and Damian) The first forest she had ever seen? Such a thought was unimaginable to Tenzin, who had lived his whole life in one. He took a step to the side, so that the peculiar pawed mare could see past him to the forest beyond. It didn't look like much from this view, though one could see the trees just beginning and the path that he had traveled up to get to the mare. Quickly glancing behind him, he noticed small tidbits that a traveler would easily miss. There was a small grey squirrel, for example, scampering up a tree and two birds were courting each other in the branches of another.
While Tenzin was momentarily distracted, Damian was being his ever curious and quite chatterbox-y self, sniffing at the mare's paws as he spoke, "They all have paws? Are they all bear-like, like yours are too?" He tilted his head back to look at the mare in deep wonder, for she was the closest to an enigma that the wolf had never really come across, even of the Soquili he'd seen with butterfly wings, of all things! He didn't stare in silence for long, and before you knew it, he was speaking again, "I've seen all sorts of Soquili with Tenzin, much more than any of my family has, I'll bet. There was one mare that had a horn and wings, whose name was Leilani. She was nice, but her familiar--he was a snake, and I'm not too fond of those--Blech! It doesn't look like you have a familiar with you. Don't you have familiars from where you come from--"
"Nearly everyone has hooves, here." Tenzin had found his voice again and it cut across Damian's, silencing the wolf. Of course, Damian wasn't a bit bothered by this and simply looked back to his bonded and then again at Pelashia.
"I had heard tales of pawed and clawed Soquili, both friendly and not, though it is the animal pelt-wearing Soquili you should be wary of. They are told to be filled with bloodlust and kill for pleasure rather than hunger, or so the stories go." Tenzin went on, shaking his head to clear away from unfriendly thoughts. He was in the company of friends, or friends to be, hopefully, in Pelashia's case. This was no time to be entertaining such nonsensical ideas. "But enough of foals' stories. In answer to your question, these lands are known to many of the Kawani Lands, as that's what the native two-leggers call it. Others simply know them as the Soquili lands, for that is what we are and this is where we live, although from your words, it seems as though we have traveled elsewhere too." Said he as he considered the mare in front of him. She certainly bore resemblance to him and some of the other Soquili he had encountered in the past, thought he with some consideration, save for her paws of course.
In embarrassment, he realized he was staring at her again and turned abruptly away from Pelashia, giving a nod towards the forest, "There are many forests in these lands, but this one is the Western Forest. There are many that call this place their home and Damian and I are some of that number. As you are new here, I welcome you here. I suspect you have traveled far and if you wish it, I will take you to my grove, where you can rest easy until you are ready to travel again." He paused, glanced at her paws and then added, "There are plenty of grasses and berries about the forest, but if you don't partake in that diet, I'm sure Damian could hunt you something...?" He suggested, his tone taking a wary direction. He had never dealt with a carnivore before. Well, that wasn't entirely true, for he traveled with a wolf companion, but he had never really encountered a carnivorous Soquili before. It put him at some unease. If she ate meat, would she do it in front of him, or would she go off with Damian to hunt? He didn't wish to dwell on it long, so he tried his bed to brush off all thoughts of meat and blood as he awaited the pawed mare's answer. Thalea Edited so that I could give Tenzin his stats this month!

A wistful look came over the mare as she spoke of her tribe, “Yes, my Tribe is the Dragenijs, we are known as the Bear Tribe because of our ursine paws. There are those who also call the Land of Ice and Light home who have feline and canine paws. Each form their own Tribe or Clan. We all have an agreement and there is mating between the clans, but it has been agreed that when a foal emerges from its basket it will got to the Tribe of the Paws it bears. Life in the Land of Ice and Light is harsh, but it is also a simple one, we do all that we can to survive, warring with the other tribes would ruin the balance that we have constructed and only bring more death to an already unforgiving life.” Pelashia drew her attention away from the frozen tundra of her memory and concentrated on the wolf, she did not know who this Leilani was but she was glad that she was nice although Pelashia was not sure she was fond of the idea of having a snake as a companion. The stallion cut off the wolf’s questions and the mare was not sure if she should answer why she did not have a familiar, and gave a mental shrug, if he really wanted to know he would ask her again. The stallion’s words were interesting and terrifying, her voice was barely a whisper, “Demons, that is what we called them. We have terrible stories about the creatures who could look like a Dragenijs yet have nothing in It’s heart but blackness and death.” Quickly she shook her self of those thoughts, glad that the stallion had changed the subject.
Her head tilted to the side and her brow furrowed at the unfamiliar word, “Kawani?” It felt funny upon her tongue, “Such a strange name, but yet oddly fitting.” The stallion was staring at her but then immediately turned away, leaving her blinking in surprise, had she said something?
A warm, thankful smile appeared upon her countenance, “Thank you.” Pelashia was exhausted, she had walked leagues and traveled for moon turns, and yet was no closer to her goal, a few days of rest would restore her strength and her quest could begin again. She gave a soft laugh, her eyes bright even in her fatigue, “Do not worry my new friend, I am not a picky eater. Grasses and berries sound delicious, even if I do not know what they are or what they look like.” She could see that hunting did not appeal to the stallion and so she did not bring it up, she would prefer to have some meat before she left, but she could survive on grass and berries. One did not live long in the Land of Ice and Light if they were a picky eater.

Tenzin (and Damian) It was quite the interesting tale that this mare had of her homelands, wherever they might be. Tenzin was listening intently to Pelashia's words with a polite smile on his face, while his familiar was openly grinning. It was only when she got to the topic of demons that Tenzin felt his body become taut with tension and he looked back to the trees, feeling a natural urge to hide under their cover and be able to attack this unknown enemy from the familiarity of their leaves.
The forest was his home and his comfort. It had always protected him, from the times to when he was a foal and even now though he was an adult, he still felt the occasional need to be safe beneath the foliage of the close-knit trees. It was as though he were made to live in such a forest, given that his coat colors and patterns allowed him to slip into the background. Even with the collar around his neck, a present from his father when Tenzin could take care of himself, and the bold green marking upon his chest, his dark coat could rarely be seen by others, unless he made himself known to them.
He had taken one step towards the forest, when the mare thanked him. His green eyes turned back onto her from the trees and he smiled and nodded, "Of course." He remarked and seemed visibly relieved when she revealed that she was alright with grasses and berries by way of sustenance. He shouldn't have been fretting so that she may be in any way connected to the demons of their lands. With another nod, he turned back the way he came and began to lead the mare into the woods.
The paths were not entirely narrow, but they could curve suddenly and surprise those who were not used to the forest terrain. Given that Pelashia was familiar with ice under her hoov-er-claws, Tenzin tried to keep in her sight at all times and moved more slowly than if it had just been him and Damian. Speaking of the wolf, where was he...? Tenzin glanced behind him to find his familiar running around the paws of the mare behind him and he gave Pelashia an apologetic smile as the wolf chattered on. "If you have paws, do you have fangs too? Are their any myths about how you got your paws? I don't think there are any I know about the wolves getting ours, but then again, wolves have never had much interest in myths or legends. The Soquili and Kawani peoples are always doing that. Oh, by the way-"
"Damian, that's enough. We wouldn't want to overwhelm our guest. She's traveled a long way, you ought to be more courteous." Scolded Tenzin, not unkindly. Damian apologized and ran back up to trot beside Tenzin, who wandered on. After a moment of silence, the draft stallion did remark, "If you have any questions about the Kawani lands, please, don't be shy in asking. I will do all I can to help you while you stay in the forest."
