She didn't get to spend as much time as she wished she could with her family because of school and work and just living in different parts of town, so the days Kaida got to spend with her baby sister were precious. Christine enjoyed video games and anime just as much as she did, and thought parkour was pretty cool, so they'd spent the day trawling secondhand stores and the like for old video games you could only find for ridiculous prices online while between the stores Kaida taught Chris some of the basics of parkour.
It had been a good day, and with the sun dipping low, it drew close to time to get the youngest Courcel home. Their last bit of time together they'd decided to spend on a park bench, munching on a bag of candied pecans.
"You have fun, kiddo?"
"I did! We can do this again next month, right?"
"Of course!" Neither was aware of the darkness shifting about a couple of blocks over, pausing long enough to get its bearings before making its way towards them.
There was food, and it was hungry. And Kaida got the vaguest sense that something was wrong.

Ash crouched beneath a bush as fur prickled down her spine, making her tail puff out in fear and anger.
There was a youma nearby. One of those monsters the Negaverse commanded and used to terrorize everyone with. Its power signature was ugly and twisted, a far cry from the pure, lovely feeling of, say, one of her senshi. It was her luck that her own signature was so small she felt it before it felt her, but she was quite certain if she stayed here much longer it was going to find her. There was a decided lack of friendlies about, so being found was not a pleasant prospect. At best, it would be a long, frantic chase before she escaped it and she was not looking forward to that.
Turning, the silver cat slunk out of the bush and broke into a trot sticking close to the carefully-planted scrub the park boasted. It was good cover for something as small as she was, but it could also be good cover for whatever it was behind her. Ash wished, suddenly, one of her senshi were about... she didn't like leaving something like that free to cause trouble. It needed dusted, but there was nothing the guardian could do about it on her own.
Rounded the edge of the copse, Ash came to a surprised hault seeing two young women on the bench and she glanced behind her in sudden worry. It was getting closer... she could feel it grating on her inner senses. If it kept on this way, it was going to find them, they were smack in the middle of its path... Crap. Thinking fast, the silver cat let out a plaintive, hungry cry and bounced towards the two, sliding under the bench and out the other side to turn big, begging eyes on them, her tail lifted to brush against legs in a friendly manner.
Look at the pretty kitty... Lets see if we can get you out of here, hmm?

The cat startled both girls, the bag the younger one held almost tumbling to the ground before she managed to catch it again.
"Oh! Hello, kitty. What're you doing out here?" Kaida herself reached down to pet the cat, giving her a soft smile.
"Bonne soirée, Mademoiselle Chat. What brings a pretty miss like you all the way out here?" That feeling of wrong was still there, but there was a little kitty out in the middle of the park. With no collar it looked like. That was worrying in and of itself. "I'm afraid we have no kitty-safe treats on us."
The creature paused, taking in things again. There was more food now! Oh, this was its lucky day yes! The pause didn't last long as it took off towards the energy again, quicker than before.

The silver guardian accepted the attention as her due, but there was too much impatience in her to really enjoy it as she might have otherwise.
Need to move... s**t, its getting closer.
Ash wove around ankles and rubbed firmly against hands before she darted out of their reach, spinning in place with a plaintive noise of distress. She padded back and forth, neither coming closer nor moving away. UGH... it was so hard to do this nonverbal communication thing. Especially when half of the people interacting thought the other half was a dumb animal.
The shifting of the monster sent chills down the cat's spine and her back arched, her fur rising to puff out her tail. They needed to move... now!

Kaida moved after the feline first, wondering if the feline felt the same feeling of dread and wrong that she did. Animals could sense earthquakes and the like coming, after all. "Come on, Mademoiselle Chat. Let's get you somewhere nice and warm. I'm sure my parents would be happy to host you for a little. Right, Christine?" Chris nodded, getting up to follow her sister and the cat.
"Yeah. I don't think Mama and Papa will have any issue." She didn't make more than two steps forward before finding herself tackled to the ground by something vaguely dog-like, but too long and made of inky violet darkness. The girl screamed and tried beating the creature off her as Kaida shifted gears, everything going into 'protect the family' mode. The creature went to bit at her, only to yelp as Kaida's foot met its face in kick, the small woman looking highly angry.
"Don't ******** touch my sister." And another kick to the head before it could recover had it rolling off her sister, the girl scooting away and behind her sister, shaking a bit. "Run, I'll catch up!" Chris nodded, and promptly took off, intent on getting help before her sister joined the 'missing' of Destiny City.

The sudden attack sent Ash shooting straight up into the air with a yowl of surprise, twisting about to keep her paws under her as she scrambled out of the way. Maybe it was cowardly, to worry about herself in this instance, but she was a very small creature and that monster was rather large...
Tail puffed huge, she watched one of the girls go down under it, the other rushing to her rescue. It touched off something in her head and Ash paced helplessly back and forth, wanting to help and not knowing how best to accomplish it. She couldn't just rush in here, shouting things, when only one of the girls called to her in that special way...
Fortune favored all of them as the intrepid blonde got the monster off and sent the other girl running. It was the perfect moment and Ash took off with a skittering of paws, darting between her ankles as something clattered down behind her. Spinning, Ash arched and hissed at the youma, her forehead star starting to glow.
"Take that pen!" She called as she braced herself. "You need to say 'Hyukatake Power, Make-up!"
Commands issued, Ash let loose with her kitty beam right into the youma's face, buying them precious seconds as it dealt with pain and numbness.

She hadn't excepted the cat to charge between her legs TOWARDS the monster, challenging it. And she certainly hadn't expected the feline to TALK or shoot a beam of light from her forehead. She was shocked, but not too shocked that she didn't pick the pen up, clutching it tightly. Perhaps Kaida shouldn't have listened to a talking cat. But...something about what she'd said sort of...called to the blonde.
"Hyakutake Power, Make-up!" The blonde changed, and the woman who stood there now was more than a little startled.
Now what? Right...no time to think. There was a monster, and certainly it couldn't stay stunned forever. She scooped the feline up, moving to put her on the bench where she might be safer for the moment before turning to the monster again. This...was definitely one of the weirdest nights in her life so far.
The monster hadn't moved, stunned by the bright beam, and it gave the new senshi an opening to kick it again. The stunned creature toppled over, the numbness wearing off as it made a noise of pain. Its meal had gotten stronger! That wasn't right!

Ash hissed at the youma as it reeled, her back arching up in feline anger. There was a pleasing wash of Order aura from behind her after the girl called out her henshin phrase and before she realized what was happening, she was being swept up off her paws. The silver cat squirmed, paw flailing, before she was set down on the bench out of harms way.
Making the leap, Ash sought higher ground on the back of it, her claws scraping on the wood.
"That's the spirit!" She cheered as her new senshi kicked the monster, seemingly brave enough to go on the attack. "Concentrate, now! You have magic that can come to your aid, Darling! Feel for the power inside of you and call out the words! We'll give that beastie a good smacking about!"
Fur still puffed, she bounced on the back of the bench, feeling far more confident now. Awakenings like this were always a harrowing affair, but always seemed to turn out all right once the new senshi had their feet under then, so to speak.

She had magic? Well...she had obviously been transformed by magic, so of course there was more magic in her somewhere. As the creature recovered and made to leap at her, she found herself looking inside and the movements came to her. And so did the words, as the energy flowed outward.
"Willow's Refuge!" The words, though spoken clearly and with strength, came out as a whisper. She glowed, and the glow moved outwards from her to create a dome-shaped barrier. A barrier that the youma crashed right into, letting out a cry of pain. Nonono! This wasn't right! Prey shouldn't have been able to do that! To make something from energy that hurt it! It made a noise of frustration and swiped at the barrier, trying to get through.
Hyakutake, for her part, was confused and a little mesmerized by the swaying streaks in the dome-shield. "Well...this is unexpected."

A barrier was not the most offensive of magics, but it was certainly useful! Ash's kind of useful, really. She would far rather hunker down behind a good shield and let someone else take care of the nasty. That's what senshi were for, after all! If Guardians were meant to do fighting, well, someone would have given them something to fight with, right?
The silver cat danced back and forth along the back of the bench, shouting abuse at the monster and encouragement at her new senshi in equal parts until the shied began to fade the way all magic does.
"A careful now, Darling! Its going to come for us again. Don't be afraid! Hit it as hard as you can, as much as you can, until it explodes. These things turn into dust when they die, you just need to keep walloping on it until it does. You're stronger now than you were before... I know you can do this!"
Ash was all encouragement as she crouched on the ledge, her back arching as her fur puffed up around her. There was less danger for her back here, but not fighting didn't mean she was any less invested in the outcome of this as the Hyakutake was. After all, what would stop the youma coming after her if something happened to her new charge?

The barrier gave her time to listen to the cat, and to breathe as the youma mad another set of swipes at the barrier, trying to get through and to its prey. THIS WASN'T FAIR! Why did its prey have to be one of THOSE? It wasn't giving up a meal so easily! Hyakutake glared at the creature, and quite frankly flipped it off.
And when the barrier came down, the youma sent sprawling as it expected to meet resistance and didn't, Hyakutake was ready. The creature was met with a hard kick, the girl not letting up until the creature did, indeed, explode into dust. And Hyakutake flopped onto her bum, letting out a breath. "That...was...definitely the weirdest thing in my life."

Relief swept through Ash when the monster finally died, leaving the pair tired, but safe. Safe was how she preferred it. Dusted was how she wanted to see every last one of those foul things.
Bouncing forward, Ash came to rub her head against her new senshi, following it up with a full body rub and flip of her tail.
"You did so beautifully, Darling! Simply wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from one of my senshi. You are a natural, of course you are!" She gushed as she lavished praise and attention on the girl. She certainly deserved it for taking out a youma on her first go.
"I apologize for coming on so suddenly as I did. I just didn't want you or your friend to be hurt and I could feel the potential in you. I knew you'd be able to defend yourself if you had a little help, so help I gave! My name is Ash, by the way. And yours is Hyukatake, when you're powered up like this." She chirped as she settled down to sit beside her, tail curled about her paws. "Lesson number one! Don't share your civilian identity with anyone from Chaos, and don't tell any civilians about your powered identity! Its very bad to get them crossed... the Negaverse and the Dark Mirror have magic that hides their identities, so you never know if the person you are talking to is an enemy in disguise. You have the same magic, so as long as you don't tell any one and no one sees you transform, no one will be able to tell you are Hyukatake and vice versus."

Hyakutake automatically gave Ash a quick pet when the Mauvian rubbed against her, still rather...in shock at what had just happened. Well, not shock. But certainly a bit confused. She knew monsters existed; everyone in DC did at that point. But...
Wait. No one? The senshi blinked, mulling over Ash's words before speaking. "No one at all?" Because how the hell was she going to keep this from Matt and Yuki forever? They pretty much shared everything. [They'd even done The Inevitable Store Run for Chocolate and Certain Feminine Products for her without flinching!] She scrunched her face a bit in thought, trying to figure out how to best approach that can of worms. Because if they found out by accident, or secondhand somehow...trouble would be brewing.

"No, Darling, I'm sorry." Ash said, her small feline face remorseful.
"It'll be hard and I know its tempting, but its just not safe for you, or for them. There are people who control monsters like that one you destroyed, and they will try to hurt you when they can find you. They wear dark, desaturated colors and they have weapons where you have magic. If they found out about your family or you friends, they could try to hurt them and no one wants that. You can protect them, by keeping all of this away from them."
Rising, Ash padded over and reached to pat her knee with a paw.
"Don't worry though. There are lots of people with power like you that you can tell. People who can become your friends and allies and fight beside you. It'll be ok. Why don't you power down now and we can find a safe place to talk some more, hmm? I have lots of things to tell you about being a Senshi and it could take a little bit. It would be better, and safer, if you weren't powered up while we did it."

"I..." She sighed, nodding and letting herself become Kaida again. "Sorry, it's just odd to think I'll have to keep something from my best friends." But if she had to...well, she'd think of it later. There had to be some way she could manage it without breaking trust. Especially if it kept them safe. "Lead the way. I can let my sister know I'm okay via text, and that I'll be home soon enough. It's obvious I've got a lot to get clued in on."Whimsical Blue I think this post or yours can wrap this up finally.
