Orpheus Solon

The morning after the bug invasion was a pleasant one, despite the chill of the wind outside. Sunlight parted through the trees and made it's way into windows until everything in the forest had redeemed it's familiar glow, effectively rejuvenating what was an atypically cold, dark wood. Much of the area had begun to stir from slumber, including the bugs from the night before who, instead of retreating back into the woods after being flung from the window above decided to roost by the roots of Yaholo and Rilind's home before taking off when the first rays of sunlight made their way to the floor below.

However, being the slow riser that he was, Yaholo has scarcely considered rolling over onto his back, let along get up to take a gander out the window. It was far too comfortable here, in bed, next to his beloved, and there really wasn't much of a hurry to get up, anyway. His kids were old enough to handle their own breakfast, he didn't need to fuss over Tahi's daughters with Tahigwa right down the hall... He had nothing to worry about except the inevitable moment when he would actually have to start the day. He allowed his eyes to flutter, aimlessly, on Rilind's sleeping form, and purred.

"Good morning, beautiful." He muttered, leaning in to kiss Rilind's forehead. "How'd you sleep...?"

A little yawn escaped from Rilind before he let his eyes opened up slowly, starring up at the one who was hovering over him. After a moment of starring he lifted a hand up, letting the tips slid along his cheek lightly, before he gave a smile, "Yaholo." He murmured, hand moving to catch hold of one of dreadlocks, giving it a little tug, "Hm? Oh... I didn't sleep too bad after we got rid of the bugs." The bugs had nearly ruined their sleep but at least they were able to chase them off and were able to get back to sleep.

Sitting up slowly he looked around the room, making sure that there weren't any bugs that succeeded in slipping back in after they threw them out. After a quick scan of the room he gave a smile, "Good, they didn't come back." He murmured, then turned to look over at Yaholo in a questioning manner, "What about you? Were you able to sleep too?" Even though he knew that he'd clung to him when he slept, he always did, because he kept the nightmares away. He could only hope that Yaholo was able to sleep despite him always being right there, clinging to him, looking for protection and warm from Yaholo. It was as though, in his mind, Yaholo was able to keep everything scary at bay be it bugs, the Dretch, or maybe even Rilind's father were the man to ever show up.

Rilind gave Yaholo a glance, looked away, then back again before he leaned in to give him a kiss on the forehead, "We should see about getting something for breakfast." He said, swinging his feet off the bed and stood up, "I will see what we have on hand and if we need to go hunting."

Yaholo couldn't help but smile at how Rilind woke up. He was reminiscent of a baby animal with the way he yawned and looked up to him. So sweet, so cute. The Brute sighed out a yawn and nuzzled Rilind's forehead, before rising and draping a leg over the side of the bed.

"Mmm, like a rock in a stream." He replied, rubbing at his eye. "I'm sure I'll need a nap later, maybe closer to the afternoon. It's sunny, sooo, maybe by the beach where it's warmer."

He stretched, his mouth opening wide into another, more bellowing yawn, before hopping off the bed and towards his drawers along the wall. It was still too cold to think about not wearing pants under his loincloth, a thought that disheartened him. He liked not wearing pants, honestly, it was so comfortable! He made a soft pout as he got dressed and stretched again, his eyes falling to Rilind as he stood up.

"Eh, may as well go hunting anyway. If the kids have already gotten up for the day, we'll probably have nothing but fruit left to eat." He replied, twisting his dreads into their usual pony tail and chuckling. "Hey, maybe some of those bugs I flung out the window last night are still there! We could eat those!"

Rilind considered the idea for a moment, the idea of a nap sounding like a nice one, though he wasn't quite sure what he thought about sleeping out in the open like that. There wasn't much in the way of cover on the beach, it would be easy for someone to see them from afar... it was something he'd have to consider, "Perhaps." He murmured, feeling that while he probably couldn't stop Yaholo that at least he could stay awake and protect him while he slept. After a moment of deep thought he finally gave a nod of his head, seemingly deciding upon a plan of action before he watched Yaholo get up... and his thoughts seemed to fizzle out for a moment.

There was just something about Yaholo in this state of dress that was just pleasing to the eye he found himself thinking as he studied the bigger man closely. Deep down he knew that he shouldn't be starring, but he couldn't really help it. After a time he forced his gaze away from Yaholo, giving the man his privacy so that he could dress without Rilind ogling him like a lovesick prentice. Pushing to his feet he lifted a hand, rubbing the heel of his hand against the thick scar on his shoulder, the worst of his scars, and the one that tended to give him the most trouble. At least it was only when he first got up and when it was storming really hard these days instead of constantly as it had once been he thought to himself.

"Fruit sounds alright, but it won't last, nor will it really sate a house full of people. Hunting would likely be the best idea." He said, then shook his head, "Blech... I don't think I could stomach something like that... If you want to hunt them, you can, but I think I will look for something else." Something more filling and less nightmare fuel he thought to himself as he moved to scoop up his clothing, pulling it on, covering himself nearly completely. While he let his guard down to a degree with Yaholo he didn't think he could do so with anyone else, as such he tended to 'armor up' as it was before leaving the safety of Yaholo's room. Once he was dressed he moved to where his weapons were sitting next to the bed, still waiting for Ril just in case anymore bugs were foolish enough to try invading.

The brute gave a hearty laugh. He didn't like to eat the bugs, either, only if the situation really called for it. Like if he were really hungry or offered one from a friend. He was the sort who didn't like refusing free food when it was offered. He felt it was rude and wasteful, even if the food wasn't something he particularly liked to eat. But, yet, even if it wasn't something tasty, there wasn't anything a little seasoning couldn't fix. ...Unless it was his father's favorite cheese, then all hope was lost and you'd have to eat garlic just to get your sense of taste back.

"Mmm, why do you need to wear so much?" He muttered, moving to wrap his arms around Rilind's shoulders, purring. "No one's gonna bother you about your scars, baby, they'll think you got into a fight and won."

He gave Rilind a squeeze and a peck on the neck before moving to grab his hammer. He'd left them next to Rilind's swords the night before, after the bug invasion, and hoisted it up into it's holster on his back. Then, with one final stretch, he nudged the door to their bedroom open.

"M'kaaay, let's see what we've got going on out here..." He said, peering out into the hallway. "... Pretty quiet. Maybe everyone else is still asleep?"

Rilind looked up at Yaholo as the man wrapped his strong arms around him, encircling him in a way that made Rilind actually feel completely safe. It was a special trick that the man was able to pull off, something quite impressive. After a moment of just enjoying the warmth he finally said, "I know what I look like, Yaholo, and I don't care for the way people stare at me." He could feel eyes on him any time people saw his scars, liking coming up with various scenarios for how it was done, what sort of person he was, and there were always those that looked at him like he was dangerous.

Sighing a bit he added, "You seem to be the only one who looks passed them somehow to see I am not some sort of crazy battle addict." He was good at fighting, he knew that, he'd thrown himself into battle against the Oban and their beasts, he knew that too, but it wasn't like he was addicted to such things. He'd just wanted to keep Yaholo safe from them was all. Not that he said that out loud, finding it to be a bit embarrassing that he acted in such an over protective manner when it came to someone who could clearly take care of himself. It was just something that he couldn't quite resist, that desire to throw himself between Yaholo and danger. He didn't mind more scars if Yaholo was safe.

Once his weapons were sheathed he moved to follow along after Yaholo, using a piece of leather cord to tie back his hair, pausing as he did so to look at it, "Hmm... the dye is starting to fade." He realized, seeing some areas where his hair was going blue again. Glancing toward Yaholo, wondering what he thought of that, before he looked around, "Still asleep... or up to something." It could go either way, people tended to be quiet when they were plotting after all, as though nobody would realize something was up then.

Yaholo made a pout and shook his head. Admittedly, he wished Rilind would just wear less so he could oggle his muscles in the daylight, but he'd never say that out loud. He wouldn't want to make Rilind uncomfortable. Instead, he relented as always, and continued out into the hallway.

"Hm, up to something sounds about right." He muttered, a soft chuckle escaping his lips. "For all I know, the kitchen could be upside down and left just for me to clean up. My family has a way with not cleaning up after themselves, I think Samoset's the only one who's inherited my ability to keep places organized."

He padded along the wooden floor and paused, briefly, at each door along the way, just to listen and check up on those inside. Most rooms were empty, as he expected, except for Samoset and Kennet's room, where Samoset still lay with his head stuck in the pillow. It seemed he'd tried getting up with his brother, the early bird, again, judging by how his leg was hanging half-way off the bed, but Yaholo could never be sure. He shut the door and chuckled to Rilind.

"Sam's not really a morning person, but he's trying." He said, moving towards the staircase. "Kennet likes to get up before everyone else, including me, and Sam gets all fussy about it. But, ultimately, Samoset just can't stand to be up before nine am. I've found him sleeping in the funniest positions because he tried to be up at the crack of dawn with his brother. It's cute."

He paused at the top of the stairs and gazed down into the kitchen below, his lips forming into a pucker. It looked the same as the night before... Hadn't anyone eaten breakfast yet? Maybe his mother had gone hunting with the rest of the family before they woke up? He sighed and made his way down the stairs.

"Alright, you wanna see what's here first before we head out, or would you rather skip that and go straight to hunting?" He asked. "I'm fine either way!"

Rilind looked into the door, toward the boy who was still sleeping, before glancing toward Yaholo as he closed the door and set to explaining what he'd see. Sam was unable to get up in the mornings, huh? Given the odd way he'd been sleeping it seemed he'd made the attempt to do so but failed? It sounded rather odd to him but it sounded as though it were quite normal to Yaholo, then again he'd raised them, hadn't he? He gave a thoughtful sound in his throat before starting forward with him once more.

"So that means your other boy, Kennet, he's already gone?" He found himself for a moment wondering where he might have gotten off to but decided it wasn't exactly his business. So long as he was safe he thought to himself, for a moment wondering where the thought came from. He barely knew the kid, was he worried about him? Strange... shaking his head he continued a long, looking into the kitchen along with Yaholo but saw nothing amiss, at least not until Yaholo explained what was out of sorts. It seemed that nobody was around at all? For a moment he found himself wondering if his presence had driven them off, one of those thoughts that he immediently quashed, not wanting to consider that. It was a darker though, one influenced by his father, that he refused to consider.

Moving forward Rilind picked up a few pieces of fruit, tucking them away just in case, old habits dying hard, and split the other in half to offer half to Yaholo, "We could go hunting. Bring something back for everyone, if you think it would be alright?" He kind of liked the idea, then again he felt a lot better about staying here when he was pulling his weight, bringing back food and the like.

"Yep, Kennet likes to keep active. Even I find it a little strange." Yaholo laughed, taking the piece of apple he was offered along with a quick kiss to Rilind's forehead. "Then let's head to my favorite spot. There's usually a few good animals out there, and some berries, too."

He adjusted the strap on his holster and and shifted his shoulders, before opening the front door. The air was still a tad brisk, but the rays of sun cascading across the ground were well worth the first few steps. He paused and looked about curiously for any sign of the bugs he'd dropped outside before and smiled when he found none were left hanging around. Hopefully they'd all gone home now or found a place to be that wasn't the inside of his home.

"It's been so bitter cold, I almost forgot what sunshine was like!" He exclaimed, almost bouncing towards the first patch of sunlight he could find. "I hope this mean that spring will be here soon, it's always so much nicer in spring. Flowers bloom, fruit starts to ripen, and all sorts of baby animals start popping up everywhere!"

He couldn't help but let out a giddy sound and blushed, turning to Rilind with a sheepish smile.

"... It's also the season of love and new beginnings, you know." He added, his eyes taking on a teasing tone.

Yaholo's favorite spot? Now that was something that he wanted to see, wanting to continue to learn more and more about Yaholo even though he didn't exactly speak that desire out loud. Instead it seemed as though he merely had to follow along after him and then he'd be able to see this special place of his. He was all for that he he decided, falling into step alongside the much latter man, looking around when Yaholo did, glad to see that all of the bugs had gone on their way. He wasn't a fan of bugs, not since his continued run ins with the Dretch, and the further away from Ril that all bugs were the better.

"Ahhh... yeah, it is nice to have it back." He said, watching as Yaholo all but bounced around like a frisky raoti, seeming as though the warmth were only riling him up, though in a good way. It was enough to actually make Rilind smile just a bit. Yaholo always was good for getting his spirits up he thought to himself, certain that he wouldn't still be alive without him. Giving a nod he said, "It will be nice for more fruit to start to ripen, it makes finding food a lot easier. Not only the fruit itself but the animals it attracts." All of them were fair game and good eating.

His thoughts on the breakfast they meant to hunt down seemed to be completely forgotten as Yaholo set to teasing him, something that caused his cheeks to color, before he looked away, "As though there was a lack of love during the cooler months." He said, knowing that Yaholo was cuddly enough when it was cold, "If it's the 'season of love' I am not sure if I will survive it if you get even more cuddly then you already are." He said, teasing Yaholo back, finding he was only able to do so with him since he was the only one he felt comfortable enough around to even try to tease.

Yaholo scoffed and broke into a short laugh. Oh, what a thing to say! He wouldn't survive more love and snuggles than the winter had given? How dire, oh woe, oh whatever would he do? The brute rolled his eyes.

"Ooooh, don't be such a fuss!" He teased, bending down slightly to lean his head on Rilind's shoulder. "You love my snuggles, you're just too silly to admit it."

Then, a smirk broke through his grin, as if he were plotting something. He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Rilind gently, before scooping him up into his arms, kissing him, and trotting off down path.

"I'm gonna carry you all the way there, fussy-pants!" He laughed, making a teasing face down at the swordsman.

"Hmph." Was all that Rilind said in response to Yaholo's declaration about him loving his snuggles, well that and a bit of a flush on his cheeks. He was just too stubborn to admit that what he said was true, that he liked having Yaholo around, that he enjoyed it when he was close by even if it had taken him some time to get used to it all. He blinked a couple times when he saw the smirk appear on Yaholo's lips and instantly he was shaking his head, "No, what ever it is that you are thinking about, no." He told him, trying to move but he was far too slow to escape as Yaholo suddenly scooped him up into his arms.

Rilind opened his mouth, about to protest, when he was given a kiss that suceeded in silencing him for a time. He couldn't do anything more then giving a grumbling sound as he was carried along, feeling a bit foolish. People were going to thinking there was something wrong with him if he couldn't even walkk along on his own! It was something he wanted to complain about and yet he couldn't quite find the words to do so, not when Yaholo seemed to be so proud of himself over all of this. Sighing a bit he looked away but made no move to struggle in his hold, instead just allowing it. It wasn't so bad... and Yaholo was always careful with him.

It should be alright he supposed, "I'll allow it this time." He finally said to Yaholo, lifting a hand to caught hold of and tug on one of his dreadlocks.

Yaholo giggled and stuck his tongue out as his dreads were pulled, thoroughly enjoying the peeved response that Rilind was giving him. He was too cute when he was grumpy, how could he not scoop him up and carry him away? It wasn't like there were many people around right now, and they'd be taking a route that lead around the main paths, so even if there were people around, they'd probably be taking another route. He wouldn't do anything to deliberately embarrass Rilind in front of others if he knew that was going to happen. Rilind was precious to him, and that included every bit of him. Even the grumpiest bit.

"We're almost there, you won't need to deal with it for long." He said, making a kissy face. "Just around these trees a bit more and..."

He paused, leaning over the side of larger tree and smiled, before setting Rilind down beside him. and motioning him to follow. Around the tree was a thick layer of brush which Yaholo parted for them to pass through and revealed a small pond with fruit bearing bushes surrounding it. The bushes seemed to be ripening well, judging by the hue of the berries upon them, and the general area had a nice, calm feel to it.

"Well, this is it!" He said, moving his arm around as if to show it off. "It's the best spot to catch animals as they scurry along for berries, as well as some types of fish, too. I come here when I need some time off and take my pick of the berries. It's funny, but I don't think anyone else has found it yet. It's like a secret hideaway."

Rilind shifted slightly, getting more comfortable in Yaholo's arms, letting his head rest against the bigger man's shoulder. He shouldn't just let him get away with it but this was actually kind of nice. He could hear the sound of Yaholo's heart beat like this, which was a sound that he'd always found to be quite soothing. He found himself relaxing a bit in Yaholo's arms even as he teased Ril about not having to deal with being carried for long. He was about to say that he didn't mind, but kept the words to himself. Not as though it would be difficult for Yaholo to figure it out on his own after all.

What felt like too short a time later he was being set back on his own two feet. Instantly he brushed himself off, making sure his clothing was in order, before turning his attention to the brush that Yaholo was pulling aside. He looked through the path he'd made for a moment before falling into step behind him, looking around as he entered the secret spot, taking it all in. It was nice and quiet here he thought to himself, taking a few steps forward, taking in everything that Yaholo was showing off. After a moment of inspection he gave a nod, "Looks like a great spot. Undisturbed for the most part and quiet." It was a good place to come looking for prey since it felt as though not a lot of people came through here.

As that thought came to mind he found himself flushing a bit as he realized that save for the various animals that might happen by and a lot of berries they were alone. It really hadn't been that way for a while, not exactly, not with the size of the family that Yaholo had. Lifting a hand he pushed it through his red bangs before he started forward toward the pond, trying to get his blush under control, hoping Yaholo didn't notice it.

Yaholo nodded, seemingly brimming with pride at the fact that he had his own personal space to go to. It was his spot, a place where he could swim, swing from the trees, and gorge himself on all the fruit he wanted without someone coming by and telling him to do something else. He'd never shown it to anyone else, not even his kids, so it was very special for Rilind to be here. He was seeing Yaholo's favorite space, one of his only secrets, and he hoped that Rilind understood that.

He turned his gaze away from surveying the area and immediately connected with Rilind's flustered face. What was he blushing about? Was he flushing from hunger? No, no, you got pale when you didn't eat, so, what was making Rilind so nervous? He paused, tilting his head gently to the side, and placed his hand on Ril's shoulder.

"Are you alright?" He asked, blinking twice. "You look a little flushed. Do you want to sit down? Maybe put your feet in the water for a bit?"
