Witty Punching Bag

You'd think he'd get tired of all the goofing off after how many nights of the same thing, over and over. He didn't even meet anyone new all of the time; he was just a simple, super-powered nine-year-old wandering the streets, pretending to knock off the bad guys one by one. Chibi Urda kicked a flattened soda can that evening, pondering what adventures he might run into that evening. He was tired from soccer practice and having been made to do his homework (by Dominic, no less), so both mental and physical energies were depleted. Not enough to keep him from going off into the night again, but certainly enough to slow him down some.

It was while he passed by the candy store that he picked up a tingling at the edges of his mind. He'd felt it before, he knew that much, but he'd never figured out what it was. He didn't even really give it too much thought other than thinking it was a little annoying at the time. He was vanquishing foes, after all. Tired, red eyes glanced around as the young senshi tried to pick up on it a bit more. The boy focused as best he could, and slowly he followed the signal until he saw...something.

Someone?

"Hello?" he called, eyes squinted a little. He could barely see with the bad lighting, but he was pretty sure there was someone there...

Valentine's Day was an important day to patrol on. Megiddo's description of Negaverse officers as "skeezy rape metaphors" might be more literal than usual as at least some laid in wait for couples unfortunate enough to go on dates in their territory. Nonetheless, Megrez had yet to find anything amiss tonight, which Megrez took as a good sign. Maybe some of them had dates of their own tonight? It was a nice thought.

A small aura pinged at the edge of her senses, and a very young-sounding voice called out to her. "Hello?" she said back as she looked for the source of the voice. Looking slightly downward gave her her answer. There was a Chibi Senshi out and about tonight. "Oh, hey there," she said to Urda, softening her tone and offering a reassuring smile. "Fighting the good fight on this most lovely of nights?"

There was someone there, as he'd thought, in a bright yellow and gold uniform. The more he looked the more he got the feeling he knew those shades from somewhere, and the feathers reminded him a little about...something. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, though, so he put it aside for now and gave a simple nod at her question. "Haven't run into anything tonight," he said, then leaned to the side to try and look past her to see if she'd beaten up any bad guys before looking up at her again. "What makes this night so lovely, though?"

Unless it meant he was off from school, he didn't pay too much attention to holidays.

It was a slight relief to hear that the Chibi Senshi hadn't run into anything yet. Megrez wasn't quite sure how much faith she had in the ability of chibi senshi to put up a good fight. "Why, it's Valentine's Day, of course! Lots of people are going to be out tonight, and that includes Negaverse officers. All those people on dates are targets." She noticed that the boy seemed to be looking past her, though at what she wasn't sure. She didn't feel anything powered nearby. "I'm Transcendent Eternal Sailor Megrez, Senshi of Eggs. Kind of a mouthful, I know. What's your name?"

He made a face when she mentioned that it was Valentine's Day, quite clearly not pleased at all about the reminder. "That's not a holiday," he said with a little frown as he moved closer to her. "If it were we'd have the day off of school, and Cindi Beckner wouldn't have tried to throw that chocolate egg at my face." She missed and he threw it back, but missed and hit his friend behind her instead. Thus began a small food fight in their classroom that landed him in the principal's office, to the surprise of his mother, who was not at all happy about the whole thing.

"I'm Chibi Sailor Urda," he returned her introduction with a small, curious smile. "It's nice to meet you! But um, what do you mean by 'transcendent'?"

"You had an egg thrown at you? That's funny, because I do a lot of that when I fight. Except my eggs aren't chocolate. They're real eggs." Megrez briefly wondered what Urda had done to get egg on his face, but then found that she had to give an explanation. It was a reasonable request, of course; not everyone knew about the glowing senshi that had started cropping up. "Transcendent Senshi are... different. No one really knows how yet, I don't think, but I think what we all have in common is that we did something special on our homeworlds and we got glowing markings for it, like the feathers on my arms. See?" She held out her arms for Urda to see.

Urda looked at her, red eyes a bit bigger than usual at the idea of having eggs for a weapon. In his mind he imagined epic food fights with plenty of eggs in the face, laughter, and all-around enjoyment; but then he was a kid, after all. Food fights were still fun to think about participating in regardless of the mess he'd have to clean up afterward. And also he seemed to ignore the fact that she fought real bad guys with her eggs.

"Do they splatter and get yolk and stuff all over the place?" he started to ask, a grin slowly splitting his face. It was amusing to think about, after all. "Or are you like Cindi Beckner and only throw them at guys who say your pigtails make you look silly?" And just like that his smile was gone, the memory of getting scolded popping up again.

But he wore the unsettled, annoyed look only for a moment. At her explanation and display of the blue glowy feathers on her arms, Urda's expression became bright and awed again as he looked from her arms to her face and back to her arms again a few times. "That's... that's so cool! I wanna glow, too! Can I, can I?"

"Yes, they do! The splatter disappears after a bit, but it can get very messy until then. And if I threw eggs at everyone who said my outfit or hair made me look silly, I'd run out of magic uses for when real trouble came up." Megrez smiled right back at Urda, feeling a little emotional contagion from him. "I save my eggs for the real bad guys, the ones who really hurt people." The young boy's fascination with her arms did not go unnoticed. "I'm sure you can glow too! You just have to go to your homeworld and try to figure out what rituals there are and try one. Maybe you'll get a glow of your own for that."

He laughed the way boys do when they've figured out how to deal with a problem of theirs, though it was short-lived. "Cindi Beckner is a real bad guy," he said stubbornly but left it at that. If that egg had hit his face he'd probably have a bruise. Lucky it didn't, though. At least he thought so.

He was glad that the topic was consistently moving away from Valentine's Day, though, and eggs and such. It was moving to how he could get glowy too, which would have been awesome had she not said "ritual," after which he sort of drooped where he stood. "Rituals are bad, though. I learned that from a book I read one time," he said with an obvious frown. It was a book that his mother had told him not to read after she realized that it was a book about a serial killer. A sick one, the kind that gave him nightmares for a week. And he'd only read up to chapter four.

"My mom said so, too, and told me to never read books like it ever again."
