Mintaka's patrols had gotten easier, oddly enough, with the negaverse in the quiet and her body, and mental state finally healed. It was good, great to finally feel...safe.
Safe for the night.
She had taken to the rooftops, switching every now and again until an aura, one of a captains sparked on her radar. But it was one she knew well, and one she hadn't seen in forever. She followed it until she felt the closeness within her reach.
Then she fell next to the negaverse lieutenant she almost considered an older brother.
"It's a little quiet for you to be out isn't it brother?" She smiled at Merlinite, small and timid. Perhaps she wasn't fully recovered from the events of a week ago.

Merlinite felt the aura approaching him but did not bother to move. What was the point? If it was someone coming to attack him, he would fight back, but if not then why start trouble he didn't want right now? He was not looking for a fight.
He was not really sure what he was looking for. The more he talked about it to others, the more he opened his eyes to the idea of purification. It seemed impossible, and he did not think it would be any better than the Negaverse at the end of the day.
How different could it be? Were they all just at the service of the power that chose them? Just servants for some greater good. A war most of them didn't even really understand. He certainly didn't. If someone asked him why he was fighting, all he could say was because he wanted to.
Or was told to.
He looked up when he recognized the voice, though, and offered her a pathetic smile.
"You're a sight for sore eyes. How are you?"

"Oh dear, that's not the normal cocky Merlinite smile I know." Mintaka slid her hand in his arm and squeezed, "I know I haven't seen you for awhile, I'm really sorry...I was caught up with the negaverse..." She hesitated, "They had me for a week of torture and such...I didn't see you there, were you okay?" Aurostibite had been there but she hadn't seen any of the others she knew.
"I met a younger more um...unfriendly group." Mintaka chuckled nervously, "But seriously...Are you okay? Do you want to sit down? I'll make you some tea if you want."

"No, I'm just... torture? No, I don't do that. I don't care what they're doing any more. I don't want to be like them any more."
He sighed, the words coming out faster than he thought.
He had not meant to jump right into his problems. After all, it seemed like hers were a lot bigger at the moment. It didn't sound like she was having a very good time with things.
"Tea?"
He should know better than to question her. He nodded his head and decided to let her do whatever she wanted. She was generally good to him, after all, despite how annoying she could sometimes be. Right now, he was not feeling annoyed. Just confused.
"I think I want to purify."

"That's good, some of the kids there...they took to much pleasure in it." Mintaka looked over her shoulder as she led him to a table in front of a closed coffee shop. She pulled down a couple of chairs, and from her side produced a large satchel with her evening dinner. Luckily she carried two thermoses of tea, since she drank so much of it. And still warm too, lucky for Merlinite.
"Here, Drink this first...." she poured it for him, then set a plate of snacks in front of him. "And eat a little." she paused.
"I understand though, some people want to be different, some want something else. What changed your-" Her hands stopped on the thermos and she looked at him with wide eyes.
"O....oh." She sat back, crossed her legs and laced her fingers. Her face fully attentive to Merlinite while still being lax in her thoughts. Purification meant a lot for someone.
"You want to become a knight for the order side brother? Do you know what that means really?"

Merlinite watched her as she set out some tea and snacks, not questioning things as he sat down at the table and tried to relax. He did not feel any tension leave his body whatsoever, and had no idea how he was going to explain himself.
To her, or anyone.
He looked at Mintaka after a moment of staring at his feet.
"I don't know if I want to be a knight. But I know I don't want to be the kind of Negaverse General... like Painite is. She's completely consumed by Chaos. I saved her, a while ago. I found her dying in the street and took her to my place and had senshi heal her by carrying her around with me while I was patrolling, until she was strong enough to heal on her own. It was fine then, taking care of her. She was kind and timid, and she was scared... but then something snapped into place. When she was healed enough to, she started to hunt her enemies and I saw what Chaos does to someone's mind... I... I'm scared that's going to happen to me."

Mintaka listened carefully, and she paid attention to his fear and worries and doubt.
"I think you are too kind to for that." She added quietly but let him continue, and once he was done, she paused and sipped again. Quietly watching him.
"I don't think you should stray from the Chaos Merlinite, even if you are afraid of it. It's the ones who embrace and harnass darkness that sometimes become some of the better heroes." Mintaka sighed.
"Purification, I saw it once, watched what the negaverse did to one of it's own the minute he decided he no longer belonged. It changes you..." She reached over and touched his cheek, "It takes away your memories of you. You become someone you don't know, don't remember." She paused, "You're afraid of it effecting you in the negaverse, but if you purify? What better is that?" She sighed again.
"What does Painite do Merlinite, that reminds you that you are losing yourself?"

Merlinite was surprised that she told him to stay with Chaos. It wasn't what he was expecting, he supposed, but then, what did he know about any of this? Maybe she knew more about the realities of purifying than the others he had spoken to. Everyone knew more than he did, after all, though he was trying to learn.
"I don't think I've ever seen anyone successfully harness the darkness, have you? I mean, in movies maybe, but not in the Negaverse. Chaos controls you, it makes you... not who you were. Painite doesn't act like she cares about anything. People aren't people to her. They're not even animals. They're... toys. She plays with lives and throws them away at her whim. She's hunting this family of senshi and knights and she's going out of her way to destroy them piece by piece, through their friends and people she knows they love. Talking to her now, I don't see the person I was trying to save before. I don't think she ever powers down now. I don't think she thinks of anything else but... doing the worst things she can."
He sighed, shaking his head. Maybe he was more worried about her coming after the people he cared about, if she found out about any of this doubt. Mintaka could be in danger. Anyone he spoke with, was friends with, could be.
"But even if I change... you guys don't kill people, right? Not like we do. Not like she does."

Mintaka sighed and looked away. How could she explain to Merlinite how she was against the change? The loss of memories? It was something she remembered in her future self, something that carried over.
It was why, she could never ask Aurostibite. And because she couldn't ask him, they could never really be together. It hurt, but...that was the way it was suppose to be.
"Because you're looking at the wrong people Merlinite." She reached over, "Have you met your general king Zinkinite?"
She took her hand away and looked away.
"We do, they do, yes." She laughed weakly, "Yes the white court kills. I've seen blood baths, I've seen the death." Mintaka laid her hands in her lap and turned to the stars. "Persephone, the senshi of war, Meggido, a knight of saturn. Gunn? You haven't met the ones that will lay waste to you. To any of the negaverse. They don't think twice."
She started to curl up in chair. "No one thinks twice about killing in war Merlinite."

"Then why am I thinking twice?"
Merlinite grumped and got up suddenly, moving away from the little setting and pacing for a moment, looking like a penned up lion. He growled and shook his head a few times, as if to clear the thoughts from his head physically since actually trying to think of other things was near impossible.
"Look, forget I said anything, alright? There are terrible people on every side of the fence, that's not going to change. I know that. I know that 'war' brings out the worst in people, and some just like to use it as an excuse to cover for their terrible personality flaws. Whatever it is, the bottom line is that there will always be the worst case nut jobs. But at least your nutjobs are that way just because they're messed up. We have messed up people that are born that way, and made worse because Chaos forces them to be that way. I'd rather forget everything than become a slave to that kind of a thing. If I'm going to kill someone, I better damn well be the one making that choice."
He didn't think he was saying anything at all, his words spinning around in his head and falling out of his mouth without any real order as far as he could tell.
"Maybe I should just kill Painite, and the whole problem resolves itself." He said wit ha rueful laugh.

Mintaka set her cup down, with a c***k metal on the marble.
Her eyes were wide as she watched him pace.
They grew wider even more as he spoke, and she couldn't help the rising dread, the need to stop him.
"No." She rose quickly, her hand gripping his jacket, shoving her face into his basically. The eyes were filled with fear.
"Stop talking....talking like life is easy. Stop talking like...like killing is the answer to everything." She felt the tears, mostly from frustration, "Stop talking like in this war, that's the only way to solve any problems. This isn't dirt on the rug, you can't just sweep it under." She shook him a little. "Stop talking like your already lost. Can't you see your right here with me? Can't you see, you're still yourself. just...just cause this Painite makes you do things...Just cause....just cause..." She rested her forehead on his chest.
"If you want to purify, please. please just think some more about it Merlinite. Please just...think some more...."

As she held on to him and leaned against him he stood without moving, letting her words sink in. His expression softened at her gentle pleading.
She was the only family he really had, and the first friend, on either team, he had ever made.
"I will think... I don't want to lose you, you know. I mean s**t, you're the one thing that's managed to stay constant this whole time, and the only family I have." He had never really needed anyone, and alienated everyone on his path to his personal success.
It was something he was sort of regretting now.
"I'm not going to change, okay? I'm not going to rush into anything. I just... I feel lost right now. But hey, I'll figure it out. I always do, right?"

"I don't want to lose you either." She nodded, "Even if we don't know each other besides this world? You are the only brother I have, the only one I would consider as such! That is a huge deal!" Mintaka gently bumped his chest with her fist.
"Please just...yes don't rush into anything." She wiped the tears away, looking up at him. "And I will do everything I can to help you, so if you're feeling down, I can help you! I can do whatever you need!" Mintaka breathed, "How should I help you now? Do you want to do something?"
She didn't want him to think he was in this alone, because he wasn't. No matter his decision, Mintaka would be there. She'd always be there for him.

Merlinite let her lean on him and lightly punch him, for what it meant. He knew she was just trying to deal with her emotions, much like he was. His method just involved standing there helplessly, not sure what to do with himself.
"I don't think I should stay out much longer. You know, in case Painite needs me for something. But I won't let her make me go too far. Maybe I can just... find a way to balance everything. I don't know what she's got in mind but. Anyway, I really do want to thank you for, you know... just being my friend, I guess. I don't really deserve it but still."
He was not the easiest person to get along with, but she never seemed to mind. Even when he was trying to be a bad guy. He finally lifted his arms and wrapped them around her, giving her a tight hug for a moment before he took a step back.
"I'll try to come find you again soon, okay? Especially if anything changes."

Mintaka squeezed Merlinite back, gripping his uniform jacket tight as if it would be the last time she saw him. Which wasn't true.
It wouldn't be true. She let go, took a step back and cleared her throat.
"Okay." She whispered, then said loudly, "Okay! go back, hurry, so you don't get in trouble okay?" she paused and then took a piece of paper out, writing her powered phone's number on it. She didn't think he could call her, but it didn't hurt to give it to him regardless.
"This here. This is my number, please call me anytime you need anything." Mintaka breathed out. "Anything at all. Or text me okay?" She looked around, "I'll stay here a bit longer, go on, Get some rest too." She fiddled with her hands.
"Stay safe okay big brother?"
