It was cold. He could feel it in his bones, in his very core; but it did not bother him. He breathed in deep and let out a sigh. He continued moving, scouting the small area he called his own. It was a distraction more than it was a necessity - he was quite far out that he rarely had anyone - or anything - come by. He came to a small stream some time after and stopped for a rest, taking a drink and helping himself to the berries that grew in abundance. He glanced at the sky - it was just past noon and his scouting had been completed which meant there was not much else to do.
And so he went through his training - stances and charges that he had not a lot of use for except chasing off the odd bear or mountain lion - and even then they had been for show and not actually tested in combat. His lips pursed as she moved. It was better safe than sorry. He didn't want to feel helpless anymore. When he was done with his routine, he started again from scratch and continued; sweat sheening on his flanks. Fatal Irony Bit late but here you go!

LOLTERNATIVE Better late than never! heart Hope you don't mind the slow replies XD Her eyes opened slowly, groggily, her mind slowly returning to the waking world from the dreamworld. She blinked away the night-visions and gradually pulled herself up to her feet, shaking her head gently to clear it. She felt stiff with the cold and with the lingering paralysis of deep sleep. She squinted at the opening of the cave she was taking shelter in. Though she was deep in the shadows of the natural den she could see the light filtering through brightly. It was still day. Then why was she roused from her slumber? Wait- there it was again. A noise. There was something - or someone - outside nearby. She tensed slightly, but forced herself to relax. She was alone in a strange place, but she was far from defenseless and if all else failed she could fly away, provided whatever it was out there didn't also have wings.
She moved cautiously to the opening of the cave, pausing for minutes at a time to let her eyes adjust to the growing light. She was a creature of darkness, but she could see well enough in the day to see there was nothing in the immediate area outside of the cave. She heard more movement, off to the side and down the slope slightly. She crouched and moved closer, the sounds coming clearer. Soon she was able to peek over the top of the hill and see the scene below. It appeared to be a stallion going through some routine. There was something familiar about it and she smiled despite herself. She used t watch the knights train in the yard daily, then imitate the moves herself in private. She'd taught herself to fight in this way, though she was not so disposed to battle. She was a petite mare by most standards and she simply was held at a disadvantage.
After watching the stallion for a few moments she decided he wasn't a threat and turned to leave, but the rocks below her suddenly shifted and gave way - and she tumbled most ungraciously down the hill to land unceremoniously at the feet of the stallion. She jumped up with as much grace as she could manage and faced off against him, heart pounding, wings flared behind her, glowing eyes boring into him with as much confidence as she could muster in the unexpected situation. She hoped he wasn't an aggressive type. He didn't look particularly evil, but she'd learned by now that looks could be deceiving.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded, her voice only slightly wavering as she improvised. "You should leave." She didn't think she had even the smallest chance at coming across as threatening, tiny as she was, so she kept her wings poised to take flight. It'd be hard to get off the ground too swiftly in the dead air and they were too close to try it except in the most desperate of situations.

He had been distracted, lost in his thoughts and so it wasn't until he heard the rocks that he noticed the mare. He turned quickly, ready to launch a counter attack. It was lucky he had restraint and pulled up short, almost tripping over himself as he avoided trampling the mare. He glanced at her, sizing her up. She was small and he regarded her with slightly more concern than he would a child. She had horns and the advantage of flight - but he was certain he could ground her before she took off. He raised a brow as she spoke that quickly came down as a frown creased his features.
"Funny," he spoke, voice a rumble. "Seeing as you are in my lands I should be saying that to you." He looked up at the cliff from which she fell - the cave wasn't his main residence, but he used it sometimes if he was unable to return home before night fell. He turned to her again. "So? What are you doing here?"Fatal Irony Beep. My own reply was slow so I don't mind XD
