They could not pay Abbi to stay in the Infirmary a minute more, and since they weren't really paying her at all, she felt perfectly vindicated in her resolve to get out while she could. The overnight shift had not been particularly interesting, which was the worst part, because it meant she had been out of her mind with boredom. There were only so many sheets and bandages to wash before every cloth she could get her hands onto was already scented with a light mango smell, thanks to a particularly plucky Hunter who felt a nice detergent was necessary. And since they were in a bit of a lull, patient wise, the teen had had little to do. Around 7AM she had begun to hide in various closets just for something to do, though she was mindful to stay awake in the event an occurence would happen, but nothing did. Part of her was grateful because that meant no one got hurt, but on the other hand it did meant that the Lead eventually found her perched on a closet shelf with a book that was decidedly not from the Island Library. But reprieve came in the late morning and Abbi was the first to vacate her scrubs and run out the door, chirping a bright goodbye to those trudging in and making her way to the beach. It had been her habit for the past six months to take a jog around at least a small part of the Island, if for a variety of reasons other than her physical improvement. Most nights proved difficult for sleep regardless of what had happened during the day, so she was more than determined to make sure she had no trouble drifting off upon her return to her dorm. And that meant she was clad in a pair of shorts, pale pink thigh high socks, and a racerback she had designated for this specific event. "Alright Vivi! Its been a long night, but we gotta get in a run! What's our personal best?" Abbi was more than happy to ask her headmate out loud since she didn't figure most people would be jogging this late in the morning. { Fook yer personal best. Just run and ah'll let ye know when ta stop }Abbi sucked in a breath and let it out as she stretched her arms above her head, a pout scrunching up her freckled nose. "Not the question I asked, but alright. I guess you win this round." She sighed before she hopped into the air and clenched her fists, far too energetic for having worked such a long shift. "ALRIGHT! You ready? Ready ready ready? Are you reaaaddddyyyyy?!" Yes, she was shouting to herself.

This was dressed down for Lukas. In dark sweatpants and serious sneakers, a fitted shirt that showed off swell of his chest and arms, he didn't look ratty or thrown together, but he also didn't look ridiculously over-dressed. The effect was an effortless one that had probably taken him far longer than Abbi's out there, creative ensemble. Not that he'd admit it. By this point, Lukas had been on the move for the better part of twenty minutes. It was long enough for his hair to be damp and tousled, but still brief enough that he could breathe easily enough. But he didn't have the aggressive energy to shout to himself as he ran, either. Abbi would have no trouble catching up with him, if she so chose. But if she kept babbling to herself, his eyebrows would be knitted and somewhat concerned by the time she did.

{ Jack alive, just start runnin'. No need to yammer on-- }"I bet you five bucks I can catch up to that person!" Abbi chirped and bolted off, having just noticed someone up ahead and not even bothering to stick around and listen to her weapon's arguments that she had no money in which to bet with. That would have ruined all her fun, and after having been so insanely bored on her shift, Abbi had a bit of energy to burn. Sure it took longer than she had originally thought, but it had been a good long while since she'd sprinted so dedicatedly and eventually gained on the man. "Comin' around your left!" Abbi called out as she neared, not at all realizing her suddenly loud voice might possibly be anything other than what she perceived as adorable. "Keep your elbows in, please and thanks!" She grinned as she passed the man, pausing briefly to inspect him before she continued on her fast pace. She didn't get far before she had to fall back, having realized that pace would never stand for long. Maybe if she hadn't just pulled an overnight shift, but not this morning. Besides, she was feeling chatty. Sure to swing both her arms out in a silly gesture she continued her light jog, only faced backwards now, calling out to the stranger she'd passed. "I don't know you, want a running partner?" This was totally the best way to make friends Abbi, good job.

"You're going to fall on your a**." He offered it mildly, with just a faint glimmer of amusement behind his eyes -- and for now, anyway, Lukas was perfectly content to keep up his own steady pace. The goal of running was to get your heart rate up and keep it up. Steady was key. Until he wanted to impress someone. Then, maybe, it would be a different story. "I guess your shield will catch the worst of it, but you might want to turn eyes forward." He cocked his head, and offered just a brief flash of a smile that was all teeth.

Unwilling to stop just to show him she wouldn't actually fall, the teen shoved her hands onto her hips and tried to raise one eyebrow. Since she was not in possession of that particular skill set, she mostly just looked mildly sassy. "You don't even know me! Maybe I run backwards all the time!" Aware that she might actually trip she did slow down a little, but wasn't going to give up this easy. "Aw c'mon, this is fun! You should try it sometime!" He was going to be a stick in the mud and she was going to go out of her way to fix that. Or at least make him laugh a little. Thinking the smile was a good sign, Abbi smiled back in all sincerity and slowed her pace even more. "Didn't answer my question, though."

"Which question was that?" He shook his head as he said it, drawing in a slow breath and swiping hair back off of his forehead. It meant that Lukas could get a long look at her and wonder, not for the first time, if he was entirely surrounded by teenaged girls on this island. Or close to, at the very least. It could be worse, he thought.

Here she finally stopped, halting fast enough that her hair wooshed forward for a second. "The one about running together." The gazing didn't bother her, Abbi had never fully come to realize that people staring could be bad since she hadn't ever experienced it much before the Island. Instead she grew still and waited, as though expecting some sort of verbal confirmation of whatever it was he was looking for. After a few seconds she walked forward and stuck out a hand toward the man with a bright grin. "Abbi Killian, B-T-W. Moon, Intermediate." She realized a moment later, now that she was closer to him, that he was a bit sweaty and for once she wanted to retract her offer of a shake, but worried about seeming rude meant she kept the hand out. If he declined she would instantly count him as Good People. "You don't have to... Uh, I mean I'll run the other way if I'll bother you."

"I don't care." Which wasn't a yes to needing a running buddy, but Lukas had a feeling it would be enough for Abbi -- especially since, after a moment, he reached out to take her hand. It was the briefest of shakes, more a brush of fingers against her palm than anything else, but it would serve at least. And he did swipe his hand off against his leg discreetly at least. "Lukas Kaufmann. Am I likely to run into a lot of people out here?"

Apathetic responses in the face of her unbridled enthusiasm was expected, but this was a stranger and she couldn't read him. She did appreciate the hand wipe and felt better about attempting a shake, but found a formal one was not to be. Momentarily confused she grabbed her hand back quickly and made a mental note to give him space, it seemed he wanted it. "What division are you?" It was very important to know, especially since neither of them were wearing their coats. As for the second question, Abbi turned and looked behind her, mulling the question over. "This late in the morning, not too many. Most people run before morning shifts, or in the evening. Before lunch runs are pretty common too. I-D-K about the afternoon, I'm usually working or trying not to take a nap in the library." She laughed at herself, and thought for a second before she waved a hand at him, an indication he should follow. "How about we walk? That's like a compromise between a run... Since you don't care." Now her smile turned mildly mischievous, playfully hopping forward once before she began a sedate pace.

For just a beat, Lukas kept running -- three steps before he faltered and slowed, and it was his turn to walk backwards for a moment, watching the girl behind him. His expression was just faintly distracted, crunching numbers. "...too hot to run in the afternoon." But then he'd fall back in beside her, stretching as he walked and shaking his head: Lukas would just have to deal with running into the odd cheerleader during his excursions. "So probably not that many around here out, then. Maybe after dark, but it's generally fairly late when I'm done with my personal mountain of paperwork." And he didn't say he was death division, the question lost in the rush of the rest of her conversation, but maybe she could figure it out all the same.

With a placid expression Abbi watched the man run past her and loop back, bouncing on her toes for a moment in her glee to have made a new friend. Or, at least on the way for it. "Probs yeah." She nodded very seriously, a small mimic of his previously far away look. "I'm sure the beach isn't too dangerous after dark, but I wouldn't risk it."As for paperwork she paused and pursed her lips to think on that. Was it Death that did all that? Or Life too? Everyone had to paperwork, but if that was mostly his job... "Deeeeaaaatttthhhhh? Right?" Her guess was really a gamble, but if she were wrong he'd correct her. "So! Been on the Island long?" It didn't figure that he had, given he'd asked about the run schedule of the Inhabitants, but then again maybe he was just starting a new hobby. Though, to be fair, he didn't look like it was a new hobby... Not that Abbi was looking, no of course not. and be blue AH SORRY FOR THE DELAY ;7;

He rolled a shoulder slowly, his instincts making him wince at the word Death -- not the concept but the division. He'd had about all the experience he needed, by now, to know he'd been sorted into trouble. At least, Lukas thought he'd had all the experience he needed. After all, he still hadn't personally met Caelius. That would be exciting. "A couple weeks, I'd say, though I'm starting to lose track..." A moment's hesitation, and then he half rolled his eyes, shaking his head at her with his tone gone dry. "Maybe I should be putting tally marks up on my dungeon wall to count the days."

Though she will say nothing about it, the wince does not pass Abbi's gaze and she instead pretends she hasn't said anything. That is all the proof she needs of his Division, but she isn't familiar with it beyond the basics and pushes all the questions she might have regarding it down. Lukas doesn't seem the chatty type, after all. Now she laughs, even if he doesn't sound pleased with what he's saying. "Got a dungeon room, huh? That kinda sucks. But hey! At least its a room!" Her gait has become more exaggerated now, her strides getting longer and bouncier. "But tally marks are always a good idea. Especially since you can leave them behind so when a new Trainee takes your room they'll get really spooked about Deus and it'll be a good joke." Her enthusiasm indicates she is being wholly serious, grinning widely and hoping he really does go through with it. and be blue HI I'm THE WORST SORRYYYY

"Not a bad idea, but I think maybe not. Let's not make the island feel any more like a prison than it already is. " He watched her out of the corner of his eyes, all too aware that he seemed to be tethering her back: Abbi's endless enthusiasm wanting to launch her forward and back into her all-out pelt. Lukas quirked just a little smile, no teeth, and didn't pick up his own pace at all. Slow and steady and he, at least, had been at this long enough to be a bit tired. "If you need to take off, feel free. Who knows, maybe you'll lap me."

A sharp laugh bursts from Abbi, but she says nothing else. As if it would only take a simple room outfitted as a dungeon to fully complete the idea of "Deus is totally a prison". There were so many instances of that already being true she didn't want to even mention them, especially when he would surely come to understand it in his own time. Maybe it was a bit cruel not to offer the hint, but Abbi felt he was a smart man, he'd come around soon enough. "Wha? Oh! L-O-L, nah I'm good. 'Sides... The Island's kinda big... Be pretty hard to lap ya..." Of course there were the various paths she could take that would give rise to her lapping him, but she didn't really want to do that when they were just getting conversational! "SO! Kaufmann, where ya from?" Probably not the best lead in to conversation, but he'd not been on the Island long enough to warrant any fun stories. Or maybe he did, if so he would probably tell that over his hometown and either was truly fine by Abbi.
