↳Tsubin was still quite off-balance as he hobbled into the lab. After having come straight to Littleroot Town from his home back in Pacifidlog after several months or so of not being on the mainland, it was truly a strange sensation to be walking on solid ground that lacked the movement of the ocean waves underfoot. He couldn't say he hated the ground's solidity, though that was exactly how he felt about the transition as he staggered past the doorway and over to a table. Hikari floated at his side, her flat, spindly arms wrapped around his right upper arm to help support him as he walked. If anyone had seen his arrival outside just moments earlier, it would've been easy to assume that the young man was probably intoxicated. Fortunately, that was far from the case.
The Lampent let out a ghostly hum beside him, the fluctuation in tone resembling that of a curious questioning as her blank yellow eyes fixated themselves on his face. Despite the sound, her voice was clear in his mind: soft and gentle as per usual, and almost whimsical from her amusement. 'Well, that was a long trip from home. Should I find you a wheelchair so you won't have to walk like a drunken master?'"Nah, I'm just dandy, Hika," he replied sarcastically, waving his hand dismissively. "I'm absolutely fine... Really though, I just need a minute to regain my bearings. Hang on a sec." Finding his way over to an empty table to lean on, he shifted his weight so that it was mostly off of his feet when he turned around to face the open space of the lab, as well as the current inhabitants. He hoped to Arceus none of the lab aides were watching his short walk prior to his current attempt to stabilize himself... And also that nobody had seen his and his father's approach to Littleroot Town. Just imagining how it must've looked was embarrassing enough.
The lab in Littleroot was somewhat busy, a few of the aides walking about, fiddling machinery, others taking a coffee break and giving Tsubin a funny look when he wobbled into the building haphazardly and leaned against one of the tables, but they shrugged it off, deciding it was best they not approach the boy. He looked a little too tired to explain himself anyways. A good look around the office would result in the realization that Birch was nowhere to be found, but another aide, a petite woman with short brown curly hair and thick glasses was brave enough to move to Tsubin in the professor's stead. "Excuse me sir..." She adjusted her rims and squinted at him. Perhaps it was time to get a new pair of glasses. "Could I assist you? Or were you perhaps looking for Professor Birch? He's out in the field right now but I'm sure he'll be back soo-" Before she could finish her explanation, the doors to the lab burst open as the professor ran inside, wrangling a Poochyenna. "We've got a live one here!!!" Birch yelled excitedly, the Pokemon in his arms desperately trying to get away from the burly and crazy man hugging it close to his chest like a stuffed Teddyursa. "A Poochyenna with a Fire Fang! Can you believe it?! Completely natural!" Birch blathered on as a few aides came to assist him. "Sir, why didn't you catch it like a normal trainer...?" One asked, though it was more of a mumble as he grabbed a pokeball. "Catch it? No no no, we shouldn't disturb the natural balance like that." One of the coffee drinking aides that had been giving Tsubin the stinkeye earlier glanced to the other aide across the table and muttered; "And grabbing a Pokemon from the wild and wrangling it into the lab doesn't disturb that balance...?" He quirked a brow and the other aide hid a smile and chuckle behind his coffee cup.
The panicked Poochyenna watched with fearful eyes as it was approached with a pokeball and hastily bared its fangs. They suddenly blazed to like with fire and sank into Professor Birch's arm, causing him to yelp and let the pokemon go. The dark type quickly scurried away and out the doors of the lab, and Birch heaved a disappointed sigh as a few Aides gave chase for him. "Shoot! I was so close...." He snapped, but then felt a hot sensation crawling up his arm. "Hm....?" He glanced over, and found that the fire fang had set the sleeve of his lab coat on fire. Eyes wide, Birch attempted to pat the flames out with his hand, a bad choice since it only burned his hand, then he dropped to the floor and rolled around to suffocate the flames. By the time the chaos had settled down and Birch was back on his feet, half the sleeve had been reduced to a black charred mass. Still, the rather optimistic and oblivious professor gave Tsubin a big smile and a hand to shake. "Hello! Need something? What can I do you for?" In spite of the chaotic scene that unveiled earlier, Birch acted like this sort of thing happened every day, which it probably did....

↳Testing his balance again as he removed all of his weight from the table, Tsubin was gradually steady where he was standing. He was mostly there, slightly swaying in place but he suddenly felt that trying to stand unassisted was a bad choice. Noticing him about to fall over again, Hikari grabbed his shoulders and pulled him back to stabilize him again. 'You know, you're making yourself look bad in front of all these aides,' she noted to him, the ghostly whistle resonating around them. "Well, not my fault my body can't adapt from sea to land that fast," he retorted as he turned his head and faced her with a pout, raising a hand and poking at where her cheek would be if she had a face. "I'd like to see you make that transition, but oh wait, you can't." Despite the snark in his tone, both he and Hikari enjoyed their little arguments. It wasn't like they were ever serious, but it probably didn't look like it to others. Tsubin casually wondered how strangers saw their bickering, because..... arguing with a Pokemon? Did they hear her voice too, or was he the only one who could?
And of course, having been distracted by Hikari, he nearly jumped back into the table with a yelp as a woman suddenly appeared before him. "AAH-- um... Y-yeah, I ca--" Before he could even explain his arrival, the doors flew open as the professor himself burst in with a wild Poochyena, which desperately struggled in his grasp to escape. The two watched the scene unfold in a flurry of white coats and smoke in a mix of awe and confusion. The vague thought of this being a regularly occurring thing crossed his mind, seeing how some of the other aides were handling the situation. Also, Tsubin swore he could hear his father's hearty, bellowing laughter from outside as the doors were closing. He wasn't going to lie; he was quite impressed with how the Professor simply got back up from extinguishing his lab coat flames like nothing happened in the first place. "Ah, yeah... Hello Professor Birch," he greeted back, returning the handshake firmly. "I'm about to embark on a journey, and I would like a starter to assist in my travels."'That sounded more formal than it needed to be.' He ignored Hikari's remark. "I'd like a Mudkip, if you have any available, sir."
Birch grinned as Tsubin shook his hand. Firm grip, but not overpowering. A good trait to have. The professor nodded approvingly. "Ah yes, well that's mighty important! Which starter would you like to have young man?" Birch asked curiously, moving over to a machine that resembled some sort of incubator and pressed a button to lift up the glass case, and when Tsubin requested a Mudkip, Birch pulled out one of the little poke balls. "Mudkip eh? A fine choice indeed! That should nicely round your current team out." He nodded to Tsuben's Lampent companion. "Make sure that it gets plenty of water, and don't worry if it decides to take a mud bath, that's completely natural, healthy even." Birch smiled and handed over the little red sphere to Tsubin with a smile. "Here, your should take these as well." Birch grabbed a cardboard box of supplies off of a shelf and dug out a Poked, some potions, and some poke balls as well, handing them each in turn to the boy.
He was actually here. Oliver couldn't believe it. The travel just to this town had seemed like forever. Before he left, his father surprised him with his cousin's Aerodactyl. They had traded a Swablu for him. Oliver wanted to refuse, but Marcus had explained that the ancient Pokemon was too much of a handful for the girl, and she had been in the hospital, so she needed to not push herself. Oliver reluctantly agreed, and said his goodbyes to everyone. It had taken about a week to get to New Bark town, and during the travels Oliver and Xion had become best friends.
Now he was facing the building. It stood above him as a beacon. He was starting over. He was going to recreate himself and learn about the world. And hopefully make friends along the way. Oliver pressed his hand against the door and took a deep breath. With a shove, it opened. Inside were machines and metal everywhere. A few people were bustling about in lab coats. Quite a commotion seemed to have just happened. He had heard the noise outside, and it had caused him a moment before he decided to enter.
A young man was already there. Birch was handing him a Pokeball and a few other supplies, as well as explaining the finer details of a Mudkip. Mudkip, huh? Oliver smiled to Birch and walked away with his arms crossed behind his back. Over in a corner he found a Treeko, scowling at nothing in particular. The little guy reminded Oliver of himself back he was, well, angry. "Hey." Oliver grinned at the grass type, only to be returned with a glare, and a quick turn of the head. The young man furrowed his brow. "You know, that was rude. You're kind of an a**, aren't you?" Oliver's face resumed to a smile as he chuckled at the little Pokemon.
Without any hesitation, Oliver hunched down next to the Treeko, and then plopped his bottom on the floor. He lifted the Pokemon into the air, laughing as the little guy tried to swing his tail onto Oliver's face. "I bet you have a story." Oliver mused, and then set the growling Treeko back down. "Hey, Professor, does this one have a trainer yet? If he does...well, too bad." Oliver grinned back at the Pokemon. "Because you're coming with me." A look of surprise came over the grass starter's face. How many times had this Pokemon been passed up?
"Heya!" Oliver stood and brushed off his pants as he greeted the other new trainer. "Name's Oliver." The Treeko was watching Oliver intently, waiting for the human to change his mind. However, Oliver scooped him up and sat him on his shoulder. At first the Pokemon was taken aback, but then crossed one leg over the other and seemed to make himself comfortable. "Got a ball for 'em?" Oliver asked Birch.

Birch looked up as another trainer walked in, seeming a bit surprised. He hadn't noticed the other young man coming in, having been preoccupied with the first young man that wanted a mudkip. "Huh? Oh, yes! That one is up for grabs! Watch out for that one; he's got sticky fingers." Birch commented as he looked over at the boy who was holding the treecko. Without warning, he shoved the box at one of his assistants, going over to the machine to grab the treecko ball. Or so he thought. A torchic popped out, chirping energetically. "Oh!" the professor exclaimed, then looked a bit confused before he started looking around, even getting on his hands and knees to peer under the desks and tech. There it is! Just underneath the healing machine. "Gotcha!" he grunted, stretching his arm under the machine to pull out a dusty ball that must have fallen. Sure enough, the ball was the correct one. The burly professor got up, wiping off the ball as he approached Oliver, handing him the ball to the treecko. "Here you go. Oh! Also, take these! They'll help you in your ventures!" he said, turning to his clearly irritated assistant that was left holding the box, motioning to him. The assistant came over and the professor's hands dove into the box to pull out some pokeballs and potions, and a pokedex which he handed to Oliver.
Oliver raised a brow at the Treecko when being called out for having sticky fingers. The little lizard glared at the professor in turn, not like being called a thief. He just knew what he wanted and how to get it. Oliver could tell that this little Pokemon knew how to manipulate others and take control. It would be a strong ally once he could gain the Pokemon's trust. But, knowing his own background, Oliver wasn't too sure how easy that would be. And, that was okay, Everyone deserved the chance.
"Thank you." Oliver chuckled as the flighty professor handed him the Treecko's ball. He also accepted the other items graciously. "Good luck, Professor." The older man would probably need it more than the young trainer. That assistant told the story of how often the professor was like, well, this. After saying goodbye, Oliver walked to the doors of the lab. At the last minute he stopped and picked the lizard off of his shoulder. The Treecko snarled at being handled like a doll. "I need to name you." Oliver remembered suddenly. "Oil. Ya' know? Then we'll be Oliver Oil." Feeling that the name was genius, Oliver grinned brightly. "TREECKO!" The Pokemon swiped at Oliver, but the man quickly jerked the Pokemon away from his face.
Oliver frowned and struggled to control the flash that came into his eyes. The young man had a violent past, and he wanted to keep that under wraps. "Czar." Oliver said flatly and placed the Pokemon back on his shoulder. Maybe getting a Pokemon that reminded him of his past wasn't the best idea. The two simmered silently as Oliver walked out of the lab.

Teito came all the way from Lumiose after making a spur of the moment decision to leave the city and start a Pokémon journey. He had come to Birch because only he had a Torchic. A starter that evolved into a dual Fire and Fighting was the best starter for him. Walking into the lab, his bag slung over his shoulder, he looked around. So help the good professor, if he wasn't here....Birch had a habit of disappearing from the lab often. And, Teito wasn't going to wait around. He would take his starter and PokeDex on his own if he had to."Professor!"

It's perfectly fine c:
After the last lad had left Birch's lab, things had gotten relatively quiet for once as Birch had gone into his office to study up and make a few notes. He hadn't even heard the newcomer call out for him, not until one of the aides came to grab him out of his office, practically dragging him over to Teito. Birch stopped to a halt on his heels and looked Teito over with a grin. "Yes, yes? You called....? I-I think...." He glanced over to the aide who dragged him out with a sheepish but hopeful smile to make sure he was talking to the right person and not currently making a fool of himself. A not so subtle nod came from the aide and Birch felt a small wave of relief wash over him. "Wonderful! So what can I do ya for? A new pokemon? Haha yeah you want a starter don't you? Of course, why am I even asking." The rather burly man gave a loud boisterous and friendly laugh, clapping Teito firmly on the back. "So tell me, which starter did you come for?"

Teito watched an assistant drag Birch out of his office and tilted his head a bit. He was...silly. Was he always so disorganized? Well, not everyone could work like that."Yes, I would like a starter. Are you...alright?"Teito had spent too much time with cheery drunks and addicts. Was this actually his normal behavior? That was worrying."Torchic. I'd like to get a Torchic. Are there anymore available?"

Birch looked rather surprised at Teito when asked if he was alright. "Sure I am! ...Why? Is there something on my face?" He wiped his mouth just to check and make sure he didn't have crumbs or chocolate in his beard or something embarrassing like that, but no dice. Well the boy did want a Torchic, so a torchic he would get! "Yes! Yes of course there's still some available, not to worry!" Birch reassured Teito with bravado. "Just give me one moment and I'll go retrieve it for you!" Birch smiled and dashed off.
Not but a few moments later, Birch was soon running back to Teito, though there was no Torchic in his hands and he looked rather panicked. It soon became apparent that the professor's capri's were ablaze. The aide's stayed relitavely calm, one of them even already had a Surskit at the ready, using water gun to douse the flames. Birch tripped and fell to the floor, looking rather exhausted as a Torchic soon followed, climbing atop of the professor and giving a happy, innocent chirp. "Ahaha!!! Sorry about the wait. Torchic is a wonderful pokemon with a fiery fighting spirit, I'm sure you two will work wonderfully together." Birch grinned a large dopey grin, shameless as always. He had Teito's supplies in hand, and reached up to give the boy his Pokedex, Pokeballs, Potions, and the Torchic's pokeball.

Teito scratched his cheek at Birch's response to his question. So, he was just like this. A relief, but kind of scary. He couldn't even imagine coming home from school to a dad that was like this sober."No....Nothing on your face, Professor."Teito stood still as Birch went to collect his Torchic, looking around while he sort of swayed uncomfortably on his heels. When he noticed Birch running back towards him, he realized quicklythat his pants were on fire. And, no one was reacting. One of the assistants did have a Surskit out to use Water Gun, though, and Teito sweatdropped. This happens on a daily basis? Jeez....Birch wouldn't last three seconds back home.Birch suddenly tripped and a Torchic immediately climbed on top of him as if claiming his 'kill'. Well, this Torchic was feisty. Teito liked it. Birch suddenly laughed and shamelessly spoke again before handing Teito - who had to kneel down - his items."Thanks, Professor. Uh....Good luck."The fighter felt he had to say it. It seemed a miracle Birch wasn't already dead or severely mamed. After putting the things in his bag, Teito picked Torchic up. And, it wasn't happy. Torchic let out an angry squeal before biting Teito's thumb to escape and jump down."Ow! Alright! You don't like being held. Got it. Arcues, that hurt....""Torchic!"Akira followed after Teito when the trainer left the lab, though, and Teito stopped worrying about his bite wound to watch the Torchic. Well, now he knew why it had attacked Birch.

↳A grin stretched across the boy's face as his request for the water starter was granted soon after releasing the professor's grasp from their handshake. He was quite eager to meet his second companion, but felt that was something to do outside of the lab, just so that his father could meet this Mudkip at the same time. "Thanks a ton, sir," he said to the professor with a bow of his head. Any more motion than that would've sent the blue-haired youth back to the floor, which he knew Hikari wouldn't appreciate. He was eager to get back outside and not make a fool of himself even more the longer his uncoordinated self stayed in the lab. Though... frankly, this place seemed fun to probably volunteer at one day. It might've been hard to tell by the reactions of all the assistants, but Tsubin found the atmosphere to be somewhat enjoyable.
He quickly packed his new supplies away into the pockets of his jacket to save himself a little time from an extended period of awkwardness and gave the man and his assistants a quick salute as he turned and made his way back through the door, nearly tripping when his shoe caught against the door frame as he uttered "Good luck on your research!". Hikari kept her spindly arms around his shoulders, obviously not trying to help him keep his balance anymore. As they turned the corner and vanished from sight of the doorway, she was heard letting out one of her more cheerful ghostly hums.

Davis walked into the Lab, he was happy that he would finally be getting his first pokemon much like his mother and father. He looked around the Lab and saw the professor standing there. A smile grew across his face as he walked to this professor " Hey there Professor... You know what I'm here for. " He smiled and laughed, he was so excited that he would be starting a new journey with new friends " I already know what Pokemon that you have... my mom came here years ago. " He was happy that he had the head up on Pokemon considering that his mother was a trainer.
