Ruelash was not the only monster in the jungle that night. His home was Zena, and in its vast and frozen forests he had hunted men and women, always on the side of 'good', of course – his prey had been bandits and fugitives, people he was different from only by the virtue of his morals – he was without them, they had twisted ones that annoyed him.

Some thought he was a bandit, though he had never turned to banditry. And he was, indeed, a killer, born to murder like a fish to water. But he – and many others, now, besides the elders of his home village of Secer – knew the truth: Ruelash was a wild animal, not a criminal. He was not bound by the rules of earthlings, but of the wild, a creature of wood and blood.

Today, his prey was more scum of the earth, people with morals who deliberately left them behind to steal and kill others. Annoying. Disgusting.

Well. Their deaths would be suitably satisfying for the bloodthirsty Ice man. And he was so close, too. He could practically smell this group through the sopping wet fog... He was ready. His blades were ready.

He was death's fangs and claws, and it would be fun.

Prentice must roll 70-100 for success. We both fail! XD

Neska was cuddling her baby kinfa as she walked through the edges of the jungles. Out here the trees were not towering giants like she was used to, there was more space between each of them and the lush foliage and crystals were less, spiky grass of the Tale lands invading the darker colors of Jauhur.

She walked without care, not realizing the dangers of the wilderness; she was a teenager and should have had some knowledge, but her adopted mother had raised her rather protectively, never really taking her out into the wilderness. Which suited Neska just fine! She didn't want to fight, didn't like danger at all! But it left her woefully unprepared for Jauhur and Tale with the Leaf tribe bandits that always seemed to flourish.
Humming softly to herself, she bounced her little ball of feathers up and down, getting her Kinfa to flap her wings and start to strengthen them. She was quite startled and squeaked when An earthling jumped from the treelimbs above right in front of her.

"Hey there lil girl... Mind handing your Kinfa over?" He grinned and flipped his sword up and caught it. "We can do this peaceful like.. or not."

Neska, facing her very first earthling ever was a bit perturbed. Weren't they supposed to fear her people? And why was she being menaced? Sounds of rustling above made her antennae with as they felt the movement of several other people.

She decided a bluff would work.. if not she'd run! "Lili's mine! Get yourself gone and stop pestering me!"
Her hands curled protectively about Lili and held her close.

Normally Ruelash didn't care about the victims of bandit attacks. It was their own fault for not being prepared. He was just there to kill the disgusting bastards, and he preferred to do that from behind, quietly.

Well at least at first. After the first few were dispatched quietly, he usually liked a real tussle, just for the bloody fun of it, and for the thrill of course. He stalked closer, until he could see the shadows of the bandits.

He could do this real easy, now. Just a few kills here and there while they were distracted, and then, when they realized they were short a few scum, he could kill the rest. They were perfect – nobody would miss them, and he'd have his fill of violence for a while. And normally, that was how it was.

Except their victim bothered him. She was young – not far into her teens – and she was apparently walking alone, carrying a kinfa with her. He glanced down at where his Aldabuk, black like ths shadows, waited to back him up and do her part. Her defiant eyes met his, and he gestured.

The animal was well trained. She began to trot, leisurely into place.

That it was a woman alone – and that the bandit that had announced himself was male – bothered him. Still, she was an alkidike, right? She could handle herself. Just in case, he kept his blades out, keeping an eye on the situation...

The older man just laughed and stopped his sword tossing to grasp it with dreadful purpose. "Ahh.... is the little girl gonna cry?" He mocked her.

And Neska did feel like crying. Weren't earthlings supposed to leave her kind alone? Gave them respect and all that? At least they did Vollerei....Why was this strange person menacing her!
"Why don't you get your won Kinfa? Lili's a gift...."

He just shook his head and laughed as he started to stalk forward, sword at ready. "Little girl doesn't understand the position she's in does she boys?" The other three stepped out of the shadows as well, all smirking. Unarmed young alkidike? Easy prey! Normally they would have ambushed first then talked.... but it was a lone little girl.... what was there to worry about?

... or not. The girl looked like she was about to cry, her face scrunching up into that awful look of despair and anxiety that had always made something deep inside of him twist oddly.

He grit his teeth, baring them in a silent snarl as he watched them threaten her. They disgusted him... and he knew exactly what to do with things that disgusted him.

He exploded from cover, dropping down from the trees above the bandits and just barely missing slitting one of the auxiliary one's throats. Before they could react further, Direk came in, horns down, and scattered them. She huffed and turned, pausing to give each of the bandits a haughty yellow glare: clearly she was a beautiful and regal creature of violence that demanded respect.

“What the?!”

Ruelash did not pause. He didn't care about respect – all he wanted was solitude and blood, and all he demanded was the blade. He attacked the leader, blocking a swipe from their sword as he howled a wordless challenge.

If he had used words, it probably would have been worse.

Neska was equally shocked when the strangely dressed one dropped in with violence. Squeaking she backed away from him. He was. jut as intimidating as the others! Especially when he started to give that wordless yell! Very much like an alkidike though.. the ones that were enthusiastic about fighting...

She looked around to see that the others were moving in, one to go for the beast (which, her Volle-trained mind noticed immediately) looked like it'd make a good meal. The other two were coming at them! Or him... or her? She wasn't taking any chances though! Dashing to a tree, she scampered up it like the alkidike she was. She was at home in trees and figured that if things went badly she could escape!

A flicker of shame in her heart made her pause; flee? Did Alkdikes flee? What would her mother think? Or others? But... I don't want to fight! And they started it! .....But that other person might get hurt... She wavered; unsure if she should do anything (if she could) or just leave.

Direk may or may not have noticed the escape of the woman, but Ruelash was too focused on fighting to notice her escape, though he would have been relieved if he had. It was 4 on 1 and he liked his odds, but he always did. He'd loved the war, too, and this felt like it: chaotic, dangerous, exactly what he needed.

Even if they were kicking his a**.

He ducked, lunged, and managed to score a cut on one of their legs, hamstringing them and reveling in their cry of pain. He felt an elbow come down on his back, and he fell to the ground, turning and slashing up wildly with his blades, as some wild animal would do with his claws.

He continued his full-body roll, trying to get out of the group of them so he could start picking them off from the outside, but he was stopped by a foot, booted in poorly stitched leather.

“You're not going anywhere, buddy.”

They said.

Ruelash responded by getting his feet under him and surging upwards. His head connected with the gelatinous muscle of their stomach, at once hard and soft.

“Oomph!”

They explained and Ruelash prepared to take advantage of the opening with his sharp swords, hoping to score a nice, bloody, lethal hit... when one of the others slammed him in the back of the head from behind.

He fell to the ground, temporarily dazed, and felt one of them kick his side.

“You piece of spitorog slime.” they snarled, turning him over with another vicious kick, “You made us lose the girl. She had a kinfa with her... those are valuable animals, you know! Great mounts...” Another kick. Ruelash growled and kicked out, hittingt the hard bone of one of their legs. He took some satisfaction in their cry of pain, even as a fish impacted his skull, sending stars across his vision. He struggled further, but they had wised up, moving just our of his reach, their weapons prodding him. “Guess its just going to be you then. We'll beat you up, take your stuff...” Another kick, this time in Ruelash's stomach, and he gagged, glaring at them angrily, “Maybe have that pet of yours for dinner.”

Direk?! Where was she?! He blinked and sat up, managing to catch a bleary-eyed glimpse of his aldabuk, restrained by a rope, before being shoved back down. He felt a coppery taste in his mouth and knew that it was blood. A cut or a lost tooth? He'd find out soon enough.

Or, he'd have more of whatever they were.

This seemed very likely as his vision filled with the sight of the bandit's fist...

Seeing the man getting beaten made up the nervous and docile Neska's mind. She wouldn't be worthy of being a Sister if she just.. fled! At least not without helping this person....
She placed Lili in a safe place and trotted over to a nice large branch and jumped on it to break it off. Catching herself before she adn the now broken off chunk of wood fell out of the tree, she quickly dashed along the large intertwining jungle branches until she was nearly above the group.
With a prayer to Aisha that it wouldn't hit her savior, she dropped the trunk. Watching it fall she couldn't help but feel a little proud as it nailed one in the head.

"S-Stupid meanies! Can't d-o anything by yourselves!" She stammered out before dashing off to find another branch to drop... or grab Lili and run if they tried to chase her....

“Gyaaah!”

The one holding the aldabuk fell to the ground and Direk took the oppurtunity to rear, kick him, and run into the woods. She was having no more of this. Ruelash could find his own way out – she was going to get the horrible rope off of her – it was mussing her fur and it was disgustingly filthy.

“That little...”

Ruelash was left on his own. There was enough distraction from her dropped branch and shout that he managed to stagger up, just enough, to land a blow in the other man's face before he could finish his sentence. He punched and punched and punched again until someone tore him off the guy and threw him back on the ground.

“We're not done with you.”

They snarled, scouring the trees searching for the girl.

”No, ye ain't!” snapped Ruelash through a swelling tongue and face, grabbing one of his throwing daggers. He threw, striking one of them in the shoulder... his aim was off – he had been aiming for their back.

“Lets kill him now. He's more trouble than she is.”

Hissed the injured one. Ruelash glanced up, catching a glimpse of the greein girl in the branches.

”Run” he mouthed.

Vollerei was a bit worried; Neska was taking a bit long for a walk.. especially one where she was unarmed.... Anxious, she headed off after the tracks and came upon the scene of Neska in the trees with a log in her hands and one very beaten looking iceling on the ground with four rough looking men looking pissed off. From their words she knew them as bandits; why do these idiot leafs keep turning to banditry she thought angrily as she charged with a yell, using her weight and superior reach to shove off the one nearest the fallen man.
"What are you filthy men doing to my daughter?"She growled in a low voice. The bandits paused. Angry and large, armed Alkdike... Not something they wanted to face.. not alongside the crazy guy!

"Guys.. thats one that took off the king." One whispered as he backed off. Hearing that the others left, with an angry Vollerei right on their tail. "Stay there Neska! I'll be back in a bit!" She called as she left.

Neska sat in the tree, log in her hand, blinking for a bit. So that was how an Alkdike was supposed to act! She wasn't sure she could manage that...
She hastily picked up her cheeping baby kinfa and dropped back down to the ground.
"Uh... thanks." She said shyly as she walked over to the weirdly dressed one. "Are.. you okay?" Now that she could get a look at the other, she saw it was... blue. And a lot more.. rugged looking than she was used to. More sharp angles and a lot less curvy!

Though even Ruelash could admit that he was sort of down for the count, he felt a little posessive of the bandits as the ferocious Alkidike chased them off. This was his fight, those were his opponents, and he hadn't even gotten to properly kill any of them. And they had his dagger... or not. He saw the flint of it glint on the ground, and realized that they must have pulled it out before running. Well, at least he had that. He made to get up, but fell back, wincing. Still, he would have liked to kill one of the filthy bastards.

A little dazedly, he saw something fall to the ground out of the corner of his eye, and a glance told him it was the girl. Good. She was okay. He grunted a reply – he was not used to gratitude. Nobody ever thanked him, not like this. Mostly, they just wanted him to go out and leave them be. He wasn't sure what to do with the odd feeling it gave him, so he grumbled something vaguely appropriate in reply and dragged himself into a half-seated position against a tree.

”I guess.” he mumbled after a brief self assessment. He'd been better. Also, worse. But Veshki was worse off than him – Veshki was dead, and it had been a bad death... Ruelash didn't know why he was thinking of Veshki now. Something must have gotten jostled in his head. His vision blurred, and he cursed. ”Chi's breath...” he growled (among other things), squinting and holding his head until the dizzy fit passed. Something had gotten knocked around in there. He'd have to deal with that, and it would be a pain getting back to the camp on his own.

Neska's forehead wrinkled in puzzlement at his curse. Who was this Chi person? She quickly brushed aside the thought when it was obvious the stranger's head was hurting.

"You don't seem okay." She said hesitantly as she approached, stopping a few feet away. Rescuer this person may have been but they were still a stranger! And had hair on their face.... did women actually have hair on their chins? She couldn't help but think when she finally saw his face... Was this one of those.... boy things Jowsee and Zahra had mentioned? Maybe that would explain the differences... Very flat chest too...

"Um.... do you have a..camp near here? I don't think staying here would be too safe." She cradled her kinfa almost like a doll, nervously running a finger over the soft feathers. Not that walking by myself had been safe either, she thought, so if I just escort her... him.. it? Back to their camp then I'll be safer. And mother can find me there...

"Oh! Um.. I'm Neska." Since I'll be sticking with her.. him.. it... till mother comes back might as well find out their name.

Ruelash grunted something ambiguous that could have been either an insult or an affirmation. He was not – very much not – okay. ”It's near 'nuff.” he muttered, gesturing. He didn't know how far he'd stalked the bandits, but with the way his head was going, he wasn't sure he could reach his camp before passing out. The kid wasn't kidding about it not being safe – aside from the bandits, there were other things out here, great for fighting, but not so great when you'd had your a** handed to you. Ruelash wasn't sure if he could get to the camp without passing out and becoming prey to something big and toothy. It's worth a try. He thought, forcing himself upright. He staggered vaguely in the direction he thought the camp was, barely managing to get more than a foot or two before he had to lean against a tree against another dizzy spell. Aye, definitely not. he thought, cringing at the insistent nausea. Clearly, he was in no condition to get back to camp. The thought of asking for help didn't even occur to him – not even once.

She'd said her name and clearly he was going to be stuck with the kid, and, too sick to try to chase her away and struggle alone and in peace, he responded. ”Ruelash. What was you doin' out here, anyway?” he managed

Neska hesitated as the man staggered off; obviously not in the best of conditions. Should she offer to help? But... warriors didn't like being helped cause they thought it made them look weak. Neska knew that much, though she thought it was stupid. Would he react like that? or did earthling males do things differently?
"Umm.. do you.. need help walking?" She asked, if he snapped at her, well, she could always flee right?

She took a small step closer just in case he did need a hand as she answered; "Um... walking? I was bored at camp cause momma and Niabi weren't there." Which, in hindsight, had been a stupid idea! Especially since she was unarmed. Guess I thought it'd be safe-ish out here like at home. I didn't realize that banditry was so widespread out here.. there's no bandits back home, she thought to herself.
