Bugs were impossible to catch, Meri had decided. They were fast, they were small, and apparently, they were smarter than she was. She would never be able to report to Jacin of her progress; she'd doubted she'd made much. She'd gotten better at catching herself before she fell, which was an improvement; but not one she wanted to comment on. At least, she was faster! And as she had promised, she carried a stick with her. She hadn't thought much of the idea at first; what could a stick do against a wittu?

It made her feel safer. She wanted to learn to hunt, to protect herself. She wanted to impress Jacin! She'd catch something, and offer to share it with him. He'd said bugs were tasty, after all.

Mano was on the move again, heading from the wonderful world of Sauti with its various beauties toward Tale where it was said a tribe called the Leaf Tribe lived. He had yet to meet one of them before but he was curious, wanting to meet all of the various tribes, and if the Leaf Tribe was as lovely as the Wind Tribe then he would be in for a wonderful time! As he walked along, his eyes flicking from side to side, he spotted movement which drew his attention. Turning he found himself starring at a rather lovely girl who was... chasing bugs?

Giving a curious sound he quickened his pace so that he could catch up to her. What was she up to? That he couldn't really say.... it just looked to him as though she was trying to clobber various fleeing insects with a stick? After a while of following along after her and watching what she was up to he finally had to ask of the girl, "If I might bother you for a moment, my lovely lady, what is it that you're up to?" Maybe she didn't like bugs and she was trying to get them to go away? Threatening something with a stick did seem like the way to go when it came to trying to make things get lost, of that much he was certain.

Meri looked up, distracted from her hunt. His seemingly sudden appearance surprised her, his compliment further surprised her. Lovely? Huh. She flashed him a smile. "Yeah," she agreed. She didn't mind being bothered, not by him; he was almost as handsome as he was polite! "I was hunting," she said. "One of the people I met told me if I cook bugs just right, they're tasty... But I haven't been able to catch even one."

She sighed. "We're not really allowed weapons, not as prentices. I'll get one when I'm older, but until then, I have to use this. It's not very useful... But Jacin told me it'll help me practice and hunt small things." She hesitated, and then added, "I'm Meri."

Mano gave a happy smile when the Leaf Tribeswoman smiled at him, something that had his heart skipping a beat before he said, "Hunting, huh? That's impressive, to see you hunting for your own food and with a stick at that." He clapped his hands together before he asked, "If there is anything I can do to help you could with catching your bugs let me know. I've never caught them before but surely an extra set of hands should be able to be of some use, right?" He held up his hands for her to see before giving a soft laugh over the idea. It wasn't his forte but he bet it would be fun to at least try.

At the mention of someone named Jacin he gave a little pout and said in a playful manner, "Ohhh, Jacin, huh? I see, so you're already taken? I guess that means I can't sweep you off your feet and take you for my own, huh?" He laughed, finding it to be quite the shame that he had no chance at all with her but it wouldn't stop him from flirting. That was one of his favorite pastimes so he'd keep at it until her Jacin fellow showed up and chased him off.

Meri shot Mano a bright smile; he had only just met her and he was offering to help her. "Really?" she asked. "I'd love your help!" She paused, glancing around a bit. She was hoping to catch sight of a stick. He needed to have some sort of weapon.

She hesitated, making a face. "Me, taken?" she echoed, astonished. No, Jacin wasn't her mate. "I'm not taken," she said, with a shake of her head. "I only met Jacin once, and he saved me from a wittu, it was chasing me and he came and killed it. He told me wittu taste really good, and we made sure to share it." Another hesitation, a blush crossing her face. "Sweep me off my feet?" she asked, glancing at him. "You can, if you like."

Mano smiled, glad to hear that she'd actually take his help despite the fact that he had admitted that he wouldn't really be able to do all that much. He wished that he could promise that he was some sort of hunting genius but the most he'd ever done was fishing and that was when he was younger. He had a feeling that hunting bugs was probably far different from that. As she started to look around he did the same thing, "Are we looking for our prey?" He asked of her in a curious manner, wondering if she was, perhaps, looking for a very specific type of bug. Was it one that tasted better then the rest? He didn't know much about cooking bugs so he couldn't say.

"Ohhh, I see, so you're not taken? That's good to hear, that means I might have a chance." He said, then leaned in and whispered, "To be honest though I might have still tried to steal a kiss from you even if you did have some amazing hunter mate, even if it would risk me getting hunted next." Drawing back her gave Meri a little wink, unable to resist a bit more flirting since he now knew that some Leaf Tribe hunter wasn't going to appear to give him a swift kick in the backside.

Turning to look at her, giving her a grin he said, "So I can sweep you off your feet, huh? Amazing! I will see about trying to do just that." Perhaps if he was able to catch some tasty bugs for her then she would reward him with a kiss? That would be more then worth the effort involved!

"Prey? Oh, no, I was looking for a stick for you. They make good weapons, at least I was told that. Mine doesn't seem to do much for me, unless I wanted a pretty ineffective fly swatter... It scares them away, though." Scaring them away wasn't exactly what she would have wanted to use it for. She wanted to show Jacin that she'd been listening; that even if she didn't fancy eating bugs herself, that she had followed his advice. She wanted to impress him. And maybe, in doing so, he'd help her find someone who could show her the ropes.

"No, not taken," she affirmed, shaking her head. She'd never thought much on it; she had been so focused on following Jacin's advice that she'd forgotten to take a look at the prentices in the village. "You might," she said, not looking at him. She was red in the face; she'd never had this sort of attention before. "Well, I don't see any sticks around here," she said, "We'll have to go elsewhere for one. But I can't teach you how to hunt bugs, I don't really know myself...."

He'd be trying to sweep her off her feet? Huh. Maybe he'd catch her something nice, and she'd be able to give it to Jacin later. "You'd be stealing my first one," she decided to tease him. "But I don't think any hunters will pay much attention to you."

"Ahhh, I see." Mano mused, finding himself looking around as well for a seemingly elusive stick. So they would both wield sticks and go after bugs, huh? Sounded like a rather strange way to spend an afternoon but what the heck, not as though he had anything else better to do with his time presently. Well, he supposed flirting, but that was the same as breathing to Mano, no reason why he couldn't swing a stick about and flirt, he was multi talented like that after all and could do both!

Giving a smile Mano nodded his head, "Alright, we can search elsewhere, see if we can find me a stick, then I will be able to actually help go after bugs instead of just saying I am going after them." He said with a bit of a chuckle. He didn't want her to think that he was trying to get out of his offer to help by flirting with her and getting on her good side after all. Giving another laugh he then added, "Well, it's probably better that way. We can look silly swinging sticks at bugs together instead of one teaching the other how best to go about it. It will be more amusing to learn as we go I'm sure." Not to mention given people a funny show to enjoy if they happened to pass by.

As he walked along with her, his eyes flicking back and forth in search of a stick, he gave a wide grin when Meri told him that he'd be getting her first kiss, "Ooooh, well, those are the best ones to steal you know. That means if we part ways you will still remember me for at least that reason." He hoped the same could be said for Kyrian and Aaran as he didn't want to be forgotten by those he met, "The hunters won't pay me much attention? A shame, at least if they were attractive hunters. We can admire them and their hunting skills together."

Meri offered Mano her stick, smiling at him. "I'll find one, you use this for now. You're new to this, huh?" He must have been, he seemed to know less about catching bugs than even she did. And that was saying something. "Well, I think you just hit them with the stick," she began, attempting to explain her thought process. "But that might squish them... Maybe we have to impale them... But then the juices would run out and I don't know if the stick is sharp enough--" she hesitated, looking up at Mano. She didn't want to look silly; not in front of him, not after he seemed interested in her.

She'd never had anyone interested in her, like this person was. "I...guess it does look a little silly," she admitted, awkwardly. "But Jacin said they taste good. I've never had them, so I don't know... They don't sound particularly good."

A first kiss was the best sort to steal? Huh. Maybe she should guard it more closely, then. "I wouldn't mind it if we didn't part ways," she said. "There are plenty of attractive hunters, but they're usually busy," it was hard finding someone to train with. "I think we'll work on making them admire us!"

Mano listened to the instructions that he was being given, finding that they weren't exactly the most certain sort. So it seemed that this was going to be quite the learning experience for the both of them, which could be fun. He'd never been hunting for bugs before, especially not to eat, meaning that this was something that he might enjoy... provided that they were actually able to figure this out, "I guess it will be one of those 'trial and error' things, huh? We will just have to do our best not to waste any potential food is all." He said, giving her a smile.

"Well, even if it looks silly so long as it's fun, right?" That was what mattered the most to Mano really, wanting nothing more out of life then to have someone attractive to hang out and flirt with and something fun to do. This was a little out of his realm of expertise but he felt that with enough practice he might be able to figure it out, "Can't say that I have ever eaten any bugs before, at least that I know of, but you never know, they could be good. We won't know until we actually go about catching something though." He said in a thoughtful manner, then gave an excited sound as he spotted a rather decent looking stick, trotting over to it, scooping it up.

Turning to look over toward her he said, "Huh? You wouldn't mind if we didn't part ways...?" He actually looked surprised, he wasn't sure if others he'd met had said as much. Sure, they talked about wanting to meet with him again but actually wanting him to stay, that was new. It was something that made him smile a little, "That's nice of you to say... as for making attractive people admire us, I am all for that, make them jealous of how amazing we are."

"Right. Trial and error. Let's try to make as few errors as possible, though." She still wanted to impress Jacin; he'd been the one to tell her about bug hunting in the first place. She nodded in agreement, the more food they caught, the more they would be able to help those unable to hunt. Like Jacin had the day she'd met him! "Fun is the most important thing," Meri agreed, flashing Mano a smile. "Most important, because if we didn't have fun looking silly, we'd just feel stupid. It's better to be silly with a friend than alone, too."

Meri paused to study him, before giving another nod. She hadn't eaten bug before, either. She'd thought it was strange when Jacin had brought it up. Even disgusting; eating bugs? The more he'd explained, though, that it would help her with her hunting skills, the more she had wanted to try it. "I haven't either," she said. "Let's be sure and catch something!"

"You come from far away, huh?" She asked. "You could stay at my place a while, if you did decide to stay. We'd have longer to impress them, anyway."

Mano nodded his head in agreement. He couldn't say that he wanted to look foolish, not when the two of them wanted to look good in front of... well, whoever might be watching. Mano was one who rather enjoyed showing off, almost as much as he enjoyed flirting with those around him. As much as he didn't care for the training that he'd gotten from his master some time back he supposed now would be a good a time as any to call upon it right? Hunting bugs was something that he felt as though he could do without feeling bad about it after all. Going about hunting, as well as catching something for the two of them to eat, that wasn't as bad as what the skills were originally meant for, in fact it was the exact opposite.

"Don't worry, my jewel eyed beauty, I am sure we will get something very soon!" He said, before giving a little grin, "Besides, even if we don't it's not as though the time I have spent with you will have been a waste, if anything it will have been the exactly opposite." He was enjoying his time with her so it was something he'd cherish.

At her question he gave a nod of his head, "I come Matori, though I... spent a little time in Oba as well." He explained, then turned to look over at her, his amber colored eyes going a little wide, "Stay at your place?" His fin like ears gave a twitch as he thought about the offer, then he gave a toothy grin, "I will consider the offer, Pretty Meri, since it's such a sweet one. Having a place to lay my head down that isn't outside in the elements is always welcome." Not since his run in with Kyrian had he had that. This would be nice, to settle down for a day or two, do a bit of hunting, fill up on what they caught, before he moved on again.

"Yes, that might be nice." He murmured, then lifted up his stick, and pointed it, "Ah! How about that bug? It seems pretty big, it might be able to feed us both if we can get it." He said, pointing at a good sized critter that was scurrying by, across the path that they were walking on.

Meri loved compliments, and it seemed Mano was full of them. She rewarded him with a bright smile. "I'm sure we will! And if we don't, at least we'll have tried!" And had fun with it, too. It seemed to Meri that what she had needed, really, had been a companion. They certainly made things more lively! Even hunting bugs, something she had yet to succeed in doing, seemed like a promising activity.

"Matori?" she echoed. "What's it like there?" Oba? She made a face, the way Mano hesitated, it didn't seem like it had been a pleasant experience. She didn't want to bring that up. Obans weren't her favorite topic; and she doubted very much that they were Mano's. "Good. I mean, you should. Everyone needs to rest some time, and there's more than enough room for one more. To sleep. Er." Awkward. "I've never stayed outside," she added, glancing around. "I bet the sky's beautiful, just getting to lay and watch it at night."

She looked up when he pointed his stick at a bug. "That's perfect!" she whispered, hoping not to frighten the critter away. "Okay, we'll have to do this carefully. Maybe it's not one of the flying types..."

"Matori is a beautiful place, a place that I kind of miss, but I am not quite ready to go back as of yet." He didn't want to go back there yet, it was too lonely he thought to himself, not matter how much he loved Matori itself. He turned to look over at Meri, giving her a smile when she was suddenly tripping over her words, something that caused him to give a bit of a chuckle. It was kind of cute, the way that she couldn't quite seem to figure out the right words.

The invitation, even with the stuttering, caused Mano to give a little chuckle before he said, "Thank you." Lifting his gaze toward the sky for a moment he gave a nod, "Yeah, the sky at night is pretty beautiful in all of the places I've been so far, it's also interesting to look up and see all the same stars that I saw while in Matori, Oba, and Sauti, and they will likely look just as beautiful in Tale as well." It was something he'd have to check out for sure, to see how it looked from this area. Maybe they could help the stars out together he thought to himself, a thought that could wait for later though since the bug was now their main priority, not star gazing.

They had to be careful? He nodded, tightening his hold on the stick that he had and asked in a hushed tone, "Should I try to pin it down with my stick?"

"You like wandering instead?" Meri asked, curiously. She'd never met a traveler before. While she couldn't imagine preferring to move around rather than having one home, she wondered if that was the case here. He'd been in all those places, and he hadn't found one he preferred? "They're beautiful here, I haven't been anywhere else, so I can't really compare. They really look the same?" That was a new concept. She had figured that since the land was different, the sky would be as well. "You'll have to tell me," she said. Maybe they could look together, and he could tell her more about his journey.

Oh, right. The bug. Meri had momentarily forgotten it. "Go for it," she urged. "It shouldn't get away, if you're quick enough!"
