Leslie snarled, attacking the dummy with an edge of desperation. Fighting something that didn't move just didn't take the edge off, these days. He needed something more visceral. He eyed the other hunters on the field, and jerked his head at one. "Spar?" he drawled, but the curl in his lip gave away the fury roiling just beneath the surface.

Thomas was nothing more then an innocent bystander. He had been at the training field, as was quite usual for him, shooting bolts from his crossbow at a dummy some fair distance away. His gaze, however, had wandered towards the few others out on the field that day, watching them as they all practiced their unique styles, before his eyes came to one in particular. One that was looking right back at him. Of course, Thomas smiled, quite broadly, and began to lift a gauntleted hand as though to wave, when the other man jerked his head at him and asked for a spar. How could Tommy refuse? With a slight nod of his head, he approached, a definite spring in his step. " Salve." The greeting rolled off of his tongue in thick Italian, before his tone changed, his accent lightening considerably. "Why not? It has always been better to practice with another then alone." He seemed downright cheerful, despite the obvious anger the other seemed to be harboring. "I am Thomas, but Tommy is preferred, if you please. How would you like to begin?" cherno astra oooooo angry boy. you can just go ahead and attack first if that's what leslie would do >_>

Leslie slid closer, hefting his club upwards in a firm swing, the blue crystal colliding with Tommy's shield. He grinned at the success, invigorated. He was doing so much better in combat, lately.
"Name's Leslie. In Mist."

Oh he was going to be like that was he? As usual in situations such as these, Thomas was actually quote tempted to lapse into full Italian for the rest of this encounter. Instead, he took on an entirely too proper, full on, high class British accent. Leslie had said English, after all. "Oh I am so terribly sorry, old chap! I shan't let it happen again." He grinned, and then found himself under attack, which he had not been expecting. Gauntlets were hastily raised as he took a step back, attempting to avoid the blow, but too late as the staff came down on him hard, hard enough to leave his bones rattling in the attacks wake. He shook it off, taking several more paces back and away, light on his feet, face splitting into a grin once more. "Mist, you say?" The thick English accent remained. "Oh what a small world we live in! I am in mist as well~" Raising one of his gauntlets, he aimed, and fired an electric blue bolt in Leslie's direction. HP: 30 Damage: 6

Leslie rolled his eyes so hard it kept him from dodging, reluctant to budge when he could stand his ground. He retaliated with a sharp swing, but missed his mark: nothing but a glancing blow. "Well that's ******** unfortunate," he muttered, sneering. "I ******** hate this division." hp// 44 dmg// 2 charge// 2/3

This man was nothing short of a bright and genial little ray of absolute black hearted hatred and disgust. Thomas, however, who was quite the opposite, so no reason to let the other mist's attitude sour his fun. He kept up his little act, the English accent thick and probably quite overdone. "Oh well that's just a shame now, isn't it? I bet the division just loves you." He continued to grin, sidestepping the next swing so that it was only a glancing blow, before lifting his second gauntlet to fire again. Unfortunately, the bolt only barely grazed the other man. HP: 28 Damage: 1

The amount of second-hand embarrassment Leslie felt was immense. "I do fine enough," he sneered, twisting his wrist and yanking up for a sharp blow. "I'd transfer if I thought any of the others weren't just as shitty." hp// 43 dmg// 9 charge// 2/3

Leslie's next attack hit Thomas hard enough to leave his ears ringing in it's wake. It was rather impressive, really, and he needed a moment to recover, his steps taking himself further back and hopefully, further away from the reach of that wicked weapon. He also fired off another bolt, just in an effort to keep the other man back long enough for Tommy's head to clear. "It sounds like." His Italian accent was finally back. "You would find a problem with almost anything that was presented to you, no matter how perfect." HP: 19 Damage: 3

Leslie laughed, a little bark of bitterness (and wasn't that like mentor, like protégé) and smiled ugly, the twist of his canines visible. Tommy wasn't naive. He wasn't going to stand there and believe that what this man said was wrong, that this place was absolutely perfect. He had seen for himself what people were like, how missions could go awry. While he often saw great beauty in many things, he could see the ugliness in them as well. "So is there nothing, even outside of this job, that you find enjoyable?" He asked, taking the glancing blow with a slight wince while Jaida let out a long sigh in his head, her usual cold and unfriendly nature turning even icier at her hunters ineptitude in this battle. It didn't matter to her that Leslie was obviously stronger. Clearly Tommy was just doing something wrong. Once again backing off, Thomas fired off another bolt, and once again it barely managed to strike his target. HP: 16 Damage: 2

And that gave him pause, that question. Enough to falter in his swing, arms stuttering in mid-air, ending in a miss. "It's not," Leslie started, a sour look on his face, " all s**t." He thought of Abbi, of training, of the infirmary, of the feeling of a job well done, of a promotion earned in the aftermath of blood spilled. Most good things, though, were tinged with the bad: infected, tainted, corrupted. There was no good way to separate it. Inexorably and inextricably linked. "This place just ******** takes. It takes your life, it takes your sweat and your tears and sometimes-- a lot of times-- your blood, too. And they'll ******** wring you. Like a ******** sponge. i came for the power and I got it, now, and am not going to lie and say it's not ******** amazing, s**t. Being able to decimate s**t," to have power after a lifetime of being powerless, "is amazing. There's just a price and it's high and they don't think s**t of us. It was quite obvious to Thomas that he had said something tha had perhaps struck a nerve with the other, angry looking man, even before he said anything to confirm it. It was quite amusing that he still looked like he had a lemon in his mouth when he said it, as if having some few things not to hate were actually distasteful to him. But when Leslie continued, it became quite apparent why. Tommy listened, head cocking to the side slightly, stepping back to stay out of range of that weapon should the other man attempt another swing. "Ah yes, I see." He didn't, really, and knew he wouldn't until he experienced it for himself. He could imagine what Leslie meant by it all, of course. This island and it's ways did seem rather harsh and unrelenting in many ways. But until he actually went through it, until he was actually wrung dry himself and left discarded on the ground, he knew he just would not quite get it. It was perhaps quite sad that he had already accepted this fate that Leslie described, and that he would choose to walk into it with open arms. "Is that why you are so angry today?" He asked, wondering at just what had caused the other mans mood, or if he was just naturally this edgy, while also firing off another bolt. HP: 16 Damage: 2

"For the most part, I would say so." He shrugged, and gave another broad smile, though it was short lived as Leslie knocked him back with another rather solid blow. If anything, this only seemed to bolster Leslie's mood. His eyes lit up almost happily at the threat. "Ha! Well, i ******** look forward to it. Come find me when you're pissed and we can do this again. Maybe you'll actually hit me." hp// 39 dmg// 5 charge// 3/3
