The punishment pits were indeed, the pits. The howl of trolls lost to the abyss faint echos as he hobbled his way with the others escape seeing more and more likely, as if it could be a reality. The only problem was how much his vanity had cost him.

Biting his own wrist in defiance to avoid the brand had been a good show, but it was another wound, and what blood he had to spare had already slipped away, his clothes stained a dark blue from where it had crusted and dried. A good show, a poor result. His breath was shallow and labored, occasionally his feet staggering and stumbling as they fought for movement and strength were he so lacked. Fatigue was his greatest enemy, and as time pressed on he knew the sooner he was free and safe, the sooner he might rest.

But nothing in Lunear's life was simple or easy. Mostly, because he never made it that way. "Mili, dearest," in the back of his mind, somehow, calling her dearest seemed not enough while also too much), "can you walk a bit slower by chance? Or aid me in this jogging pace. If we're safe I see no reason why we're in such a hurry." It was the weakest excuse to cover his growing slowness.

"If, of course, you don't mind touching my person. I know I am hard to resist but I'm sure you can hold off. You can always admire by perfection at a later date." He wanted to slap himself. Why was he being so overt? So thick with her? Part of him was scared. Scare by the dull echo his pump biscuit made, the rushing of other escaping troll, the fact that at any moment something could go wrong. And of course, he thought, something would.

Milieu found a groove in the fatigue that encompassed her body and continued to jog. All around, the cacophony of screams, squeals, and clatters set the teal troll's nerves on edge. Scents of blood, bile, and sweat wafted against the muggy air. Milieu wanted nothing more than to be out of this little slice of hell, in the harsh environment of the chitten desert, nestled safely in Vremea's home with all her friends - Vrem, Athene, Odette....

And of course, Lunear. Silly, bizarre, handsome, and perplexing Lunear. She flickered her eyes at him, worry furrowing her brows. His blood was crusting against his clothes, and his movements were becoming slower. Before she was spotted, she returned to staring forward. Soon enough they would be free and their wounds tended to. Vremea could heal him with her magic and Milieu could rest easy knowing that everyone was free and well.

"Mili dearest." Dearest? She jerked, as if stung, surprised by his words and what they were implying. Of course, his sassy remark about keeping her hands off would normally have elicited a playful shove. This time, the troll quickly wrapped an arm around his center. If they walked in unison it would be a bit slower, but it would be less weight on Lunear.

There was more shouting and crying. Fear began to trickle down into the mountain of nervous worry, like sand in an hour glass. How much longer until Milieu's nerves were shot? Swallowing, she carefully took a step forward and tried to find a rhythm between them that allowed for easier movements.

His lips cracked a smirk. The facade of confidence and ego staying up, if slightly cracked and breaking. The desert wasn't far he kept tell himself. Just a bit further, just around the next turn- yet that turn proved most unwise. The creak echoed from down the hall, yet in the cries of sounds of the fleeing and frightened, noe one paid it any mind. He didn't either. He was more focused on freedom. On resting in the warm night air and maybe just enjoying for once the fact he was alive.

"Come now, don't look at me like that." He whispered towards the troll who was helping him in more than just her silence and willingness to let him babble at her. "Your sweet face is more suited to a smile. We're almost free and once we are, we'll have to celebrate naturally. I'm thinking letting our gerbils out, popping open a bottle of fine aged tab. A celebration to be sure-" He forced a smile, leaning on her as he walked on shaking legs.

He never heard the dull thud of the door creaking open. The screams of trolls as a lone wounded drone appeared in the escape route, it's blood oozing onto the floor. He could hear his own dull pump biscuit, roaring in his sound lobes as he watched in agonizing slowness as it reached out to grab the nearest troll. To grab him. He could feel himself letting go of Milieu- and then there was nothing but a dull pain ripping into his chest.

Why couldn't she have been faster? Even a moment faster. A minute. A second. A breath. To throw herself before the drone, to take the blow. Instead Milieu felt herself relieved of Lunear, as the larger drone ripped him away.

What about the tab? And the celebration? It was ripped from them so unceremoniously. Milieu felt something snap inside and abruptly, she didn't care. She simply didn't care. Grasping both daggers, she ran around the drones side and threw herself at him. Rearing back her hands, she plunged them down and into its flesh repeatedly, tears streaming down her face.

No. No. NO! NO! This wasn't happening this couldn't be happening!

Dull. He knew that there was screaming, running. The pounding vibrations told him people were running now, rushing faster in a mass of bodies. His vision was horizontal to the floor. Feet going by at a quick pace that was colored only by the blood of the fallen. Vaguely, he could feel something slipping away from him. A dull numbness on his chest that went down towards a leg.

The drone fell too- a loud sound he guessed, but he couldn't hear it, something that should have alarmed him. Yet it didn't. It was just another vibration. Eyes opened and closed. Fingers twitched and moved. He was still alive. Yet it was so hard to move. It would have been much nicer to just rest a bit- to just wait. Even if he'd be terribly late to the celebration of freedom.

Gore and blood dripped from the ends of her daggers. Milieu stared at the dead body of the drone with blank eyes. Slowly reality came back into focus. She was crying, hiccuping silently. Sliding the daggers away, she moved to Lunear. He was... So still, but twitching. God, was he dead?

Kneeling, Mili pulled the blueblood into her arms, her body shaking in shock.

Dead drone and a dying body- not that he realized it. He was just tired and a bit cold. Nothing bad. Mili was helping him up- she was kind. Better than what he deserved. He- he didn't know. She was nice and made him feel things and want things and it was strange. He tried to tell her a joke, how cute she looked in blood of her foes- but he couldn't. His flirting even falling short, energy spent.

But his hands still gripped her shoulders, her clothes. What little strength he had he'd give to lean on her. Even if it so very much the opposite of what he was supposed to be doing as a gentletroll. He was failing spectacularly at that endeavor. Still he held on. He was alive, he could still walk.

Barely. So long as he could lean on her things would be fine.

Everything would be fine.

He was there. He was alive. Shakily, Milieu pressed her lips against his and stood, hauling Lunear with herself. She was so tired, but the adrenaline was pushing her further and harder than Mili was aware that she could be pushed. Once this was over, she would sleep for days. Weeks. Sweeps. Oh, the thought of a gooey recooprecoon... a warm, slime filled, blessed sleep.

Swallowing down the dreams, she proceeded to move and drag Lunear with her. He was trying to move, but she worried that it was bad for him to expend his energy like this. If only there was someone else to rely upon, but Milieu couldn't speak or shout. Angry, bitter tears clung to her lids. If only she wasn't so deformed.

What seemed like sweeps, they left the pits and followed the line of hurt trolls who were shambling away. As they kept moving, it was obvious that Lunear wasn't just hurt: he was dying. Dying faster than Milieu could move. She worried her lower lip. There was an option to save Lunear, but... But it meant a lot of repercussions. Something that Milieu was not sure if the other was willing to accept. Yet if it kept him alive. Kept Lunear on this little planet just for a little longer... Was she selfish enough to do that?

They finally made it a safe distance from the punishment pits, and about midway from where they entered the cave to find Vrykol. Milieu spotted a cave and pointed their course in that direction. Moving inside, she laid him down and pulled off her cat suit. Folding it up tightly, she placed it below his head and caressed his cheek before kissing his forehead, the tip of his nose and then lips again. So many words were conveyed with her look. All she could do was stand and leave the cave. Taking off at a steady run, Milieu aimed for the cavern.

Stay alive, Lunear. Stay alive.

There was a softness he didn't expect. He wanted to embrace her, push back and just hold her and do the mouth thing. Heck if he know why it was so tempting, why she was so tempting, but in that tiny moment, he felt happy. Even as he body had begun to give he felt warmth in his chest as the rest of him felt cold. She was something else. She was... not what he was used to, what he expected. She was someone he cared about.

Lunear wasn't sure if he could ever have the right words to tell her that.

He clung to her, drinking in her warmth, the way she carried him- he admired her. Silent, he wanted to hear her speak, but knew she couldn't. It hurt him, as her mouth opened when she'd been fighting yet nothing came out. He wondered if it hurt her too. He didn't want to see her hurt.

Even as she tended to him, cared for him, he tried his best to smile, to voice a joke though he lacked the strength. Of course- her touch brought him back. All that warmth. All that emotion in side of him- he wasn't sure what it could mean. Would mean. Would have meant. But she didn't deserve this, to be hurt, to be hurt by him no less. He wanted to protect her. Her, a teal, a troll he hardly knew yet.. he did know her. He knew enough.

He knew as she left, he had felt for her, and he didn't want to lose that. No matter the consequences.

Vrykol's words rattled in her mind. They clanged noisly, leaving no peace for the troll. Under her arm was a small box of the vials. Five doses. Five nights. Already the sky was starting to turn faintly pink at the horizon. There were other things to worry about beside the onset of dawn and the zombies. Milieu's biggest worry, the one that kept her leaden exhausted legs moving, was Lunear. Lunear... Was he alive? Had he held on? Or had he slipped away when she was negotiating with the Jadeblood?

Milieu choked out a sob and shook her head violently. Be brave. Be strong. Be all the troll you can be. Desperately she pined for Owl Mom.

Slowly the cave came into sight. Using a last burst of energy, Milieu continued to tromp across the dunes, adrenaline surging into her veins once more. She burst into the cave unceremoniously, coughing and weaving as she dropped to her knees beside Lunear.

With shaking hands, she pressed her fingers against his neck. A pulse, but very faint. Milieu shuddered from head to toe in relief and appeared to sink in upon herself. Alive. Barely, but still alive. Placing the box to the side, the teal troll flipped the locks and pulled out one of the potions. It was reminiscent of the ones with which they had doused Aendal. Milieu popped the cork and resisted the urge to sniff the contents.

Slipping one arm underneath of the blueblood, she brought him to her ample chest, only to remember that getting his mouth open was going to be difficult. Groaning in frustration, Milieu struggled to keep Lunear balanced while not spilling the potion. Time was ticking away faster and faster. He was on the very brink and if she didn't do this now, then... Then Lunear.

With no hands, she opted for the next best thing. Pressing her lips firmly against Lunears, she used his weakened state to work his jaw open. It took a few moments, and Milieu was flustered and breathless by the end. Was it her imagination or had... He.... No there was no way he could have returned it. He was dying. This was not how she envisioned her first kiss going... Then again, her first chaste kiss had been Lunear too. The soon to be vampire was dead set on ruining her.

Pressing the vile to his opened mouth, she poured in the contents. Please, let this work. Please live, Lune. Please... Please forgive me.
