Perseus shook himself slightly, the chill of the morning air stealing the breath from his lungs. He sat atop the rocky cliff face that Dia and Shu made their home in. The family was fast asleep and would be for awhile yet. Shunsuke no longer rose with the sun as he had before, time spent loitering with Diaix had tampered his drive. Not that it was a bad thing, Perseus was deeply happy for his elder brother who had finally found the happiness he so deserved. His little family was something Persues loved to be a part of but there were many times he spent alone wondering just what was missing.

Many a night he spent awake staring at the wall questioning why their parents had abandoned them; this question did not seem to eat at Shu the same way. Pers wondered what went wrong, and often times he dreamt of finding them and asking. It was one of these dreams that had inspired him to speak with Shunsuke.

It had been a hard conversation and Shu hadn’t been too keen on the idea, but in the end the pink male had won out. He wanted to find their parents, desperately, he had only vague memories of them but he needed to know. He wasn’t sure he would ever feel satisfied otherwise. He longed to know what was wrong with him, why had they left only after he was born. Though he would never tell his elder brother, Perseus blamed himself for their parents leaving; for costing his sibling their happy life.

All the hunter really wanted was to understand that, he wouldn’t even ask that they come back or hurt them or anything at all. Perseus shook his head to dispel the thoughts, least they catch him up for hours on end and he get a late start. While he had no idea where he was going, no clue how he was going to find them; he was still going to search. Perseus figured asking around, telling the story of his family, describing his parents the best he could, maybe someone would have seen them. The journey of a lifetime begins with only one set after all.

He shook his head, ears falling back as he pushed to his feet and glanced around himself. Well there was no time like the present; he started off at an easy lope. The same sort of gait he used when looking for prey to hunt, it gobbled up the miles and didn’t wear him out terribly.

By mid-afternoon he had made it quite a ways, but he still wasn’t very sure what he was doing. He hadn’t ever really been on a long journey before, and this didn’t really feel like one. Pers knew his goal of course but it wasn’t exactly the same thing as doing it. He had honestly expected to at least feel a little different on his hunt.

He flopped out beside a river, his pink pelt standing out starkly against the grass around him. His head drooped to lay on his paws as he huffed softly to himself. Perhaps this wasn’t such a good idea, maybe looking was stupid, and what if he never found what he was looking for.

Rustle

The sound instantly caught his attention making his head shoot up. He moved hunkering down and slinking into the underbrush to work his way around the sound till he spotted the dark brown pelt through the trees. A deer perhaps, or maybe some other animal, the coat was so dark though and it didn’t seem at all interested in him. Perseus slunk low to the grown his belly hardly a hairs breath away from it, as quite as he possibly could he stalked closer until he was within striking range. He leaped lunging out of the underbrush with a slight growl to tackle his prey. Unfortunately for him, not everything is as it appears to be.

The morning was pleasant and the brown ulaya often escaped his family life for a break now and again. Living the life of his mother's doll took a toll on him and he sometimes just needed to get away. Laying down on the grassy noll the ulaya held his wings close to his body, blending them in as if they didn't exist. It was peaceful in this field and he was glad to finally be away from others for a little while. Resting his head on his forearms Loa drifted off to sleep, the sun beating down on his dark pelt and warming his body to the perfect temperature. He enjoyed this field more than any of the other places he had scampered to, not only for the enjoyable sun but because his family hadn't found him there yet. He loved them but his mother was clingy and hardly ever gave him space.

Hours passed as the ulaya continued to sleep under the hot sun and soothing breeze. He could stay like this all day but something caught his attention and woke him from his deep slumber. Opening his eyes he looked around but failed to find anything. 'That was strange.' he thought to himself before resting his head back down to try and catch his sleep again. A few moments later another sound was hear, this time from the grass just in front of him. A little frustrated that his nap was being interrupted, the brown ulaya stood up and looked in the direction of the sound. Standing still for a few moments he heard it again and he pounce the spot. A mouse. "Perfect." He had been woken up by a rodent. Scoffing at the scared critter as it scampered away, he turned his body back around to find his comfy spot again when suddenly WHAM! He was tossed to his side and landed hard on the ground. "Gah!" He was shocked by the instant jolt as he had no idea what was going on. "I don't want to go back, go away!" Helooked up and looked at the bright pink ulaya who had pounced on top of him, barring his claws into his rump. "You're not my brother ... !"

Perseus landed perfectly on his prey, sinking his claws into the back haunch of the animal he had managed to catch. The slight call of surprise followed by words babbled at him however had him retracting his claws real quick and pulling back. His eyes opened wide and he just stared at the brown pelted male for a moment. Perseus’ ears fell back and he lowered his head slightly. “Oh, oh goodness. I’m sorry; I didn’t think you were another Ulaya.” He pulled back into a sitting position to look at the other.

“No, while I have a brother you aren’t him. Is someone after you?” He asked canting his head to the side curiously as he inspected the other. He had never seen someone with so dark brown a pelt and the little black lines on it in various places were curious to him. He leaned forward sniffing at the other and feeling guilty for the muss of fur on Loa’s haunch. He hadn’t really meant to fluff the other and he was sure his buttocks area had to sting a little bit. “I am sorry for hurting you.”

Looking back at the pink pelted male he sat on his own rump and tilted his head to the side with amusement. "Nobody is after me, I just thought your were one of my family members. They always come looking for me when I finally get away." He lifted a paw to brush the dirt off from his fur, the small dry grains flaking off without any problem. "I'm alright, I'm actually used to it if you'll believe it or not." He shrugged it off for his history was nothing but physical pain and he really didn't find anything troubling about it at all. "So ... where did you come from? You think I would have seen you around the field earlier with your bright colors, they don't exactly offer you camouflage." He then scanned the area with the sudden thought that if he hadn't seen such a bright male then his family just may be out there in the grass somewhere. His eyes, constantly scanning the scenery, glistened a deep purple glow with his attention before he turned his head and admired the other ulaya again.

Perseus flicked an ear at him and tilted his head to the side slightly confused. “Why do they always come after you? Do you have like, a mom and dad and stuff?” The pink male asked curious, he supposed that was a dumb question but at the same time perhaps not. He didn’t have any so maybe this male didn’t either? He shook his head before glancing back at the other male and nodding slightly.

“You’re used to being pounced?” Perseus sounded almost confused by the notion, he was pretty sure most people didn’t go around pouncing others. He leaned forward to sniff at the male slightly before glancing around them. He sniffed the air slightly, standing up on his hind legs to get a better vantage before dropping back down. “Well if truth be told, I’m not always around these parts. I am sometimes but not always. That being said I was also stalking you, so it’s unlikely you would have seen me anyway. You didn’t seem to be paying attention to me or your surroundings.” He stated his tone rather amused as he tucked into the grass. “Hey, you haven’t seen a really big, big, big pink male with antlers around have you? Or a tall female with wings?”

"Yeah well, it's complicated." His voice trailed off. He didn't like telling others that his mother was crazy and confused her stuffed toy for him. He didn't want people to know that she talks to her toy and then to him as if they were one in the same person. He also never shared that she abused him because her toy was a voodoo doll. He never shared these things because he never found there to be a reason to. His family was crazy, he already knew that, why would everyone else need to know?

The blood brown male shrugged his shoulders and watched as the pink male sort of danced around. He thought about the question he had been asked and tried to remember if he had seen anyone like that. "I don't believe I've ever seen either but ... " looking at the sky he started to think harder. "I did meet a ghost with antlers once, if that doesn't sound funny at all." He suddenly started listening to himself and he realized how foolish he must sound. "But this ulaya spoke of a winged ulaya. If that means anything to you." He was probably just making whatever matters they were worse with his random pointless rambling but he really did see an antlered ghost.

Once Perseus had inspected a goodly portion of the area, making sure that there was no one else around he settled down a little. He plopped down next to the male and looked at him still a little confused. “What do you mean it’s complicated? I mean, pouncing can be complicated but it’s one of the easier steps of hunting.” He mused thinking back on the times he spent hours learning how not to make a sound as he moved over rocks or between trees. The pouncing part, while the most fun part, was also probably one of the more simple parts of it all really. He could still hear Shu from time to time when he moved, but as far as Perseus was aware people rarely if ever heard him coming when he didn’t want them to.

His ears dropped when the male said he hadn’t seen anyone like that but as the other went on he tilted his head. “Well, it isn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever heard that is for sure.” He shifted slightly and sniffed the air once more. “I mean dad had antlers, but they were huge, but he wasn’t a ghost. He was pretty fleshy.” Perseus nodded before glancing off to the side. “See I’m looking for my parents, my mom is a really tall lady with wings, tiny wings and my dad was big, huge, and he had this large rack of antlers. They left me and my brother for dead way back when and I kinda wanna know why ya know? Like what was wrong with us, why did they leave? We made it to adulthood after all and Shu’s even got a lovely mate and two kits! So I mean, I don’t know. I’m just curious I guess. My mom was the prettiest lavender color, I remember that.” The pink male squinched up his nose slightly before shaking his head and looking down at the other.

“Ah sorry!! You probably don’t want to listen to my life story!” Perseus sounded rather sheepish as he glanced off to the side before casting the other a rather crooked smile. “Well regardless maybe this ghost knows my dad? I mean how many of us actually sport antlers?” The male’s tail wiggled slightly. “Could you just point me in his direction?”
