Even if Rep and Harrison's bar hadn't been the only one on the island, Horace would've visited it anyway for a number of reasons. One: Harrison was nice, if sometimes a little abrasive. Two: it gave him something else to bother Rep with (which was entirely petty of Horace. but nevertheless, he would). And three: Al was there and he was incessantly fun to poke at. Horace was roughly 83% certain the other hunter hated him, but was too polite to say it. Although... polite wasn't generally a word ascribed to Al, he thought. But Horace wanted to ask Al something anyway. He had a few free hours and most of his friends were off on duty. To the bar it was. He slid into a a set at the bar and waved enthusiastically at the bar tender. Propping his chin on his hand, Horace waited for Al to slide down to his end of the bar. His blue eyes peered intently at the other man.

Al was washing several used glasses in the deep sink and wiped them mostly dry before setting them out behind the bar on a special mat to ensure it. His attention to his task ended and he shut off the running water as he was sure he heard someone come in. He glanced up and flinched visibly when he found Horace at the bar. He had the sinking feeling he might have been here just to cause trouble but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
He grabbed a glass and slid down the bar to address him, "what can I set you up with?"

One eyebrow arched up incredulously as Al neared. "I wasn't aware I was flinch-worthy." His fingers tapped along the bar. The flinch was honestly a little saddening, somehow - Horace didn't think he was awful, but Al didn't seem to really like him. Maybe Horace was actually an emotional masochist, as well. the thought was dismissed with a snort. Dr. Jannisari remained wisely silent. "Uh, a cider, please, Al." His lips twisted thoughtfully. "You seem different lately. Did something good happen?" Maybe he had gotten to use Horace's Christmas gift.

"You are if you're only here for trouble," Al warned with a tone that kept remarkably upbeat. "Plus your tips kind of suck," he turned his back to Horace and cracked a toothy grin. He wandered around behind the bar to fill the glass with cider, the apple on the label always made him curious but he hadn't dared to try much beyond the whiskey yet.
Glass filled, he returned and placed it on a coaster in front of Horace. "Nah, m'just feeling more like myself lately."

"Me? Trouble? Why, I never." Horace grinned and rolled his eyes. "I'm only a broke-a** trainee so not much I can do about tips unless of course, you'll accept words instead of dollars." His voice was the tiniest bit hopeful, although he kne that Al would turn him down flat, of course. Horace would do the same. It was nice seeing Al upbeat, and the grin was a little more heartening than the flinch had been. "That's good! Did you get to make use of that Christmas gift or something?" He could've bit his tongue off - Al didn't need to know that he was the one who'd left the condoms.

"You say that but you create quite a bit of stir wherever you go it seems," Al softly teased and clearly untensed at the assurance that Horace was going to behave himself. But then he asked something that made Al pause. Quick and almost imperceptible, but a definite pause. Then he relaxed again and placed his hands on the bar, tilting his head to the side curiously. "Which Christmas gift?"

The comment about him causing a stir only exlicited a small snort from Horace. It wasn't something he could deny, after all. He did believe quite a lot of it was linked to his relationship with Jan. Well, excepting the bit where Rep hated him. Of course, now he less concerned with trouble-making and more concerned with the fact that he'd let something slip. Al turned and planced his hands on the bar and Horace barely controlled a flinch of his own. A flush rose in his cheeks and his eyes slid dowm to the cider in front of him. He took a drink to stall for time. "Oh, I... had just heard... you'd gotten a box for Christmas. Of useful things." He smiled at Al embarrassedly, realizing his evasion tactic simply wasn't very good.

Al watched Horace squirm with apparent interest. The irony wasn't lost on him in the least; this was the same man who not long ago hit on him rather shamelessly in this same bar.
He withdrew his hands to pace back to inspect his freshly cleaned glasses. "That box was you?!" He tried to sound incredulous. "Of course I haven't opened the box. What sort of sex fiend do you take me for?" He placed the glasses on the shelves.

"No!" He burst out. "I didn't say it was me... just that I had heard." His fingers tapped along the glass fitfully. He wasn't drunk enough yet. It was easier to be shameless when a) drunk or b) dealing with someone who was prickly rather than happy.
He looked at Al. Okay, fine, whatever. "Alright, alright. Not a sex fiend, but someone desperately in need, maybe." He took a long gulp. Whatever brand Al had given Horace was very sweet. "So... if you haven't cracked open the box did you bareback?" His voice contained a faint note of horror. Zombabies.

"What?! No. No sex at all." The horror in his tone was legitimate this time. He looked at Horace as if he'd gone mad. He was too afraid to put the last glass back in case he'd cause the entire thing to topple with his shaking hands.
"Seriously, how much sex do you think someone like me has?"

Al's sheer horro brought a blink of surprise. Horace didn't exactly remember their fling in the showers (he had, of course, remembered hurting quite a lot after, hence the XL size chosen for Al's gift). But despite not remembering details, he'd thought that Al was pretty forward about sex - he took up Horace's horrible attempts at flirting, at least. He couldn't help it, he felt his eyebrows creeping upwards.
"Well, this island is kind of full of physically fit people in their prime. You included. There's a lot of sex going on. I, of course, assumed you'd be in that, uh... pool." He shrugged, still emabarrassed, but also amused by Al's reaction. "No sex at all... but why not?"

Al hurriedly shelved the remaining glass while his hands were momentarily steady enough to accomplish such a task.
His skin was already turning bright red along his cheeks and ears. "You're killing me man," Al shyly warned. "I'm just no into random sex...." he glanced back at Horace and then quickly at nothing in particular.

Horace choked on his drink, spluttering. He set it down, coughed a couple of times and simply stared at Al. He'd rather thought their whole thing had been about as random as it came.
"Not... into... random sex, huh? Really..."

Al pouted irritably at Horace. "Don't do that. It was a one off. You can't judge my entire existence on a one off." The red spread right across his nose.

It was truly terrible of Horace to think so, but Al was ridiculously cute when he pouted. He resisted to urge to try and tweak his nose - it would certainly not be appreciated. "Of course not," he snorted. "But where there's one, there's usually more, so...." He shrugged, rubbing a hand along his undercut.
"Coulda been a weekly thing instead of a 'me and maybe a couple other dudes' thing. Should I feel honored?" He said jokingly, propping both elbows up on the counter.
